Congratulations! There are some really good ideas and a lot of support on these boards. I only signed up a week ago but I've been scanning the pages since we got engaged 2 months ago. :-)

I'd like some advice on how to handle this situation without losing a friend, if that's at all possible at this point. My FH and I are both divorced with kids. We decided on a DW bc we've lived in so many places that our guests will have to travel no matter where we set the venue. When we decided, I spoke to the girls I knew I wanted to share in my day, and I asked them to be bridesmaids in my 2014 DW. My sister was thrilled to be MOH bc her hubby loves fishing. My best friend from HS cried and said she wouldn't miss it for the world. My other long-time friend started immediately planning my bachelorette party on a red eye to vegas. Um, really?? I tactfully told her that's not exactly what we had in mind and our style is a but more subdued, like maybe spending a night at a local casino to catch a show and just have co-ed fun with both sides of the wedding party. Then when I told her we wanted to get married away, she immediately said there was no way she could afford to be there if we had a DW. I wanted her to be able to come with us, so I told her there are sometimes deals through travel agents and she might end up with a reduced cost or even free trip. Since then, I've text her repeatedly asking for her to call me or at least give me her address so I can get the engagement party invite mailed out. She's called exactly once to tell me she met someone new and she's in love. She actually said, "who knows? I might get married before you do!" While I'd love to think she's found her soul mate, I'm put off by her Vegas idea and I'm worried that if she comes to the wedding at all, let alone as a BM, she'll expect the spotlight. I regret asking her to be in my wedding but she's been a great friend up until I mentioned it. Is there a nice way to ask her to step down? Maybe I should tell her she will have to pay full price on her trip and the dresses I picked are very expensive? I don't want to hurt her feelings but now when I picture my wedding day, I can't see her standing next to me... :-(

Are you thinking of asking somebody else in her place?

I had a few different ideas than some of my BM had for my bachelorette. They assume i need strippers and I want a co-ed one myself. I just put my foot down since my sister is the MOH. But I personally wouldn't even worry about it. I've have a BM who is also planning a DW 3 months after mine and another who is pregnant. I haven't planned on asking anyone to step down but I can't actually forsee them being BM b/c of all the expenses. Give her own time to back away from the position. Life happens and plans change! Me? I'm still waiting to see exactly who will remain in the bridal party without shooting myself in the foot.

WOW! I finally got through all 84 pages of this string - lets just say I haven't been doing much work at work ;) I am just so excited to read all of your posts!

There are so many great ideas on here and I am happy to say I'm a 2014 bride as well! We've decided on the Dreams Puerto Vallarta in October! We have been to the Deams Cancun and loved it, and I completely trust this brand of resorts - which is why I feel so comfortable with it. My brother and sister-in-law went to Secrets Myan Riviera for their honeymoon last year, and they loved that location as well. For anyone still searching, you can't go wrong with a Secrets or Dreams (at least in my opinion!)

I did see that a few of you have chosen Paridisius Punta Cana as your location - We went there on a trip last year and it was a beautiful resort, so you are making a great decision! The food was awesome, the staff was friendly, and the scenery was gorgeous. We especially loved the fact that there was so much plush greenery and the jungle like atmosphere all around. If any of you have any questions about this resort (or the Dreams Cancun), PM me, I can tell you what I know.

I am going to be doing a lot of DIY myself - invites, OOT bags, decorations, everything!. I have already done my bridesmaid boxes, that I need to take pictures of so I can share. I am slightly obsessed with them and I wish I had made one for myself! Pics to come...

I am going to do all my stationary myself too (I am in marketing, so I have experience with graphic design..). My first project was the save the date. I am going with a mix of varying corals, blushes and a hint of light seafoam green as my colors....what do you think?!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
