let the decorating begin!

I know most married gals are busy having babies or trying to have babies, but now that hubby and I have an outlandish mortgage payment, our only "baby" will be our new home for at least a few years.

I've already starting thinking about how I want to decorate. I want the house to look bright, fresh, and modernized but still look like the century-old home that it is. We have hardwood floors, some wood built-ins, and exposed red brick throughout. Pretty tall ceilings, too.

What do you think of this color palette (plus WHITE. White is important for keeping it bright and light!) These bowls are from the new Martha Stewart line at Macy's, which I already LOOOOOOOVE.

I'll try to find some "inspiration" rooms to show you the look I'm going for. And if you have ideas, lemme know. Oh yeah, and I'm on a budget!!!

Janet I can't believe you got the house, this is so EXCITING!!! My housing buddy found a house she loves and I could not be any happier for you.

Okay so now on to decorating. I love these colors you picked out they are so bright and fun. And you know me I heart, heart, heart white so I think it will all blend in well.

Did you find any pics of the type of look your going for?

Those are great colours together! I would keep the red minimal, the other colours are freah and soothing.... very nice!

We moved into our new build in Dec. have haven't done too much, just bought some furniture since we are saving for the wedding. But I have a few links saved.

Have you looked at West Elm? Crate & Barrel. They have nice decor, not too expensive.

Thanks, Glenda! Hopefully you are next?

I am still looking for some "inspiration" photos. I am going to start a big binder like I did for the wedding planning. I have been really needing a project for the last 10 months!!

Paula - definitely agree on the red. I will just be in one or two small accessories to add punch to the room.

And DC just got a West Elm store downtown right by my office, woo hoo! I love that place! I am def going to spend some money there and C&B, at least as much as my budget allows. :)

Love the colors---- I can completely picture it in my mind too! Light blue walls with chocolate brown sofa. The only thing to consider before doing a darker brown color for the sofa, is end tables (color, style, material composition)--- (would a dark color end table be too much? would a lighter shade of end table work with the overall color scheme? are there other materials that could be used that would still compliment the contemporary feel?)

Pottery Barn might be good for stuff too, as well as Ikea. They both have contemporary style furniture that keeps the focus on straight, clean lines, but softens it up so it doesn't look like stark/bare like modern furniture does.

I think Toby on here (I can't remember her user name exactly) is a decorator in Florida---- she would be a good person to ask for opinions also! :)

I agree with Paula about keeping the red accents to a minimum---
