Nightmare- DJ Mijares flaked on our 6/11/11 wedding!

Recommended Posts

Hey Ladies,

We just found out on Friday that DJ Mijares is unable to do our wedding.  We've had him booked since September and he is just NOW telling us he "double-booked" himself.  We're so upset bc music is really important to us and our guests.  We booked him in the fall before picking out our cake, flowers or decorations bc we wanted to be sure to have the best.  Six months later he tells us sorry, but he'll send his friend in his place for a $200 discount- thatswck.gif how generous.  Thanks but no thanks.  We've contacted 5+DJ's that are recommended on this site, all of them are booked.  All my friends think he got offered more money to do someone else's wedding.  I'll never know.... but now we're scrambling to replace him.  We may fly in a dj from CA, but that's a budget expense we didn't see coming!  This is one of those times I wish we'd eloped.

If you girls have any recommendations please let me know!

So sorry to hear this...how frustrating. Sounds like a very "fishy" situation to me, but like you said you'll never know and I guess there's no use dwelling on it. We're using DJ Ricardo for our 6/10/11 wedding and have been very pleased with him thus far. Have you tried him? You also could consider a band...it would be more costly, but probably less than flying a DJ in. I have some quotes from deja vu and cabomax I could probably find for you if you are interested, just let me know. Good Luck!

Thanks Donie.... it is frustrating, scary and disappointing.  DJ Mijares was also supposed to play classic guitar during our wedding and cocktail reception.  We did contact DJ Ricardo and he's booked.  : (  I guess that's the downfall of being a June bride, it's the most popular wedding month.  Thanks for the band suggestion, but we're not really band people.... we're hoping the resort will assume some responsibility and wave the equipment fee so our dj will be more affordable/comparble to DJ Mijares' fee and we'll be able to afford another guitarist.  Cross your fingers for us!

Pinkbride, I am so sorry to hear this.  These things are so stressful before your wedding.  I have to say I am really surprised he did this to you.  Dj Mijares did my wedding and he was amazing and super professional.  We had lots of contact with him before hand planning everything and he even came out to the hotel before the wedding to meet with us and go over everything in person.  I know you aren't happy with it but maybe it might be worth finding out more info about his friend, like what experience he has, does he also do live guitar and singing like DJ Mijares, how many weddings has he done, can you speak to any of his clients, etc.  Find out what his experience is, if he is decent and, given your situation, I'm sure you would be able to work something out on price.   Good luck in finding a new DJ.  I'm sure your wedding will be amazing.

Hello Pinkbride 2011

First of all I would like to appologize for the situation and offer you an explenation, I consider my self a professional person that likes to have happy clients, I have been a wedding Dj and guitar player for over 10 years and I can proudly say that 99% of my clients are pleased with my work.

Last year during July I met with a couple here in Cabo and we signed a contract for their 6-11-11 wedding,  when I received the email from the hotel I was already booked for 6-11-11, I confirmed my attendance because as guitar player the timing didnt interfiere with the other wedding but I made a huge mistake I didnt specify that the Dj service would be done by one of my partners, I assume my responsability and I know how you feel I understand this is a very important day of your life and you want everything to be perfect, I would really like to make it up for this mistake I know an apology is not enough this is why I offered the hotel to give you free sound system in case you brought your own DJ from CA or in case you accpeted to have my partner as your DJ I would only charge for the ceremony and guitar service during the cockatil hour and not for the DJ service. I would also like you to know that I didnt change your wedding for a better deal I am a professional person I wouldnt do that, I offer the same rate to everyone, all of my clients receive a signed contract with terms and policies that guarantee my service and attendance.

I hope we can work out something I would really like you to be happy and satisfied on your wedding day. I have been a member of this forum since 2006 and I have worked with a lot of brides that belong to this forum you can get more positive comments of me and my work than negative comments.

I apologize once again and I am very sorry this happened....

Please give me your email address or contact me directly, here is my email address:

Best Regards

Dj Mijares

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
