Weight Loss support for 2011 brides!!

Wow there have been so many responses already...this is great!! I love this forum :)

Okay so we are all in a similar boat....need to lose weight for a wedding especially before we look for our bridal dresses!!!

I keep starting then get stressed out or tired of being healthy and then break my diet....so from now on, I am going to log onto this forum and read this responses so that hopefully I can get motivated again!!

Here are the tips that I have been following so far:

1.) I am in nursing school so i have a tight schedule/income soo I have bought a pedometer..... about 30 dollars... and I wear it every day while at work/school/at home

It is on sale at costco and amazon right now... GOsmart Pocket Pedometer (HJ-720ITC)

I am trying to work up to taking at least 10,000 steps a day, and when I can I walk outside up a hill or go to the park....(like today, I am going with one of my girlfriends to the park then treating ourselves to healthy sushi :-D)

2.) I make sure that I always have breakfast (either total cereal/or whole grain oatmeal with green tea)

3.)lunch and dinner is harder cuz i am rarely home but I have made a new year's resolution to eat no fast food(mcdonalds burger kind), and NO cake/cookies or any baked sweet goods!!!! This has been insanely hard but I am actually not turning to junk food when I am stressed out anymore.....which is amazing because nursing school has added 30 lbs on me!!!!!

I go absolutely crazy when I have a craving tho so I let myself have two mini butterfingers or a kitkat.........which isn't good but better than gorging on donuts or cookies or something!

4.) The MAJOR thing that I have heard makes a drastic difference....is drinking at least ten glasses of water. So everywhere I go, I am trying to bring a bottle of water.....or I drink green tea.....and have given up iced tea/soda/coffee. Sometimes I have orange juice but I try not to drink that too much.

5.) I am Sri Lankan...so we eat a lot of rice...so I switched to brown rice(only a half cup/once a day) ......and brown bread....NO white carbs!!

That is all I can think of for now..........I have taken a lot of nutrition courses so I know a lot about eating healthy if anyone needs help with that. Portion sizes are important....one serving is no bigger than the palm of your hand! Switch to olive oil and eat what you like without going overboard. I am not a fan of those crazy diets because a lot of people end up regaining.....so I am just trying to eat healthy(which saves money because you pack lunch at home and not waste it on outdoor restaurants!)

My main problem is exercise...I hate it with a passion!! haha.......so I am doing the pedometer and trying hard to get better at doing as many steps as I can, and I am going to try and do at least 45 min on my elliptical a day....and try out a hot steam yoga class that is nearby....

Hope that this info helps anyone......excited to hear what you guys have been trying.....and I think that we should try posting every day when we dont feel motivated..... and every week we can post how much we lost/gained for some support!! (Research has shown that weighing yourself daily is not good....so try weighing yourself weekly at the same time on the same day, in the morning before eating or drinking anything!!)

Good luck ladies...............and I know we can do it!!!!

But would love if we could help each other!
I feel your pain!!!! Try the pedometer idea....beacuse I wear it at clinicals and when I walk to classes......

I also wake up earlier and pack my lunches and yogurt or granola bar...and lots of water!!!!

I always freak out when I have exams though so my new year's resolution has been helping me avoid stress eating because it is a bet I have going with my fiance......If I can be healthy until the end of this year then he owes me something that I have wanted....so it has definitely helped!!!

Good luck with school and excercising....I graduate this May...how about you?!? (worried about the Nclex, applying for jobs and then paying for my wedding too......stress sucks!! lol)

I am with you girls!! I am trying to lose at least 30 to start looking for my dress. 50 is my ultimate goal. I'm going to kick boxing class so that's keeping me active.

I've cut down on my starches and no soda. It's hard...God only knows it's hard!!! But I have to do this for me!!!

I'm not bothered that one of my BM's won't go to class with me...or if my family wants to go out to eat. I'm the one that is going to be in a wedding dress...so I need to do everything I can do lose this weight.

Hi Ladies! I think this is a great thread, its always nice to know what is or isn't working for ppl when they are trying to lose weight. This was a great idea Rus! I'd like to lose about 15 lbs by my July 2011 wedding. I've actually aleady bought my dress but like the bridal shop told me - its much easier to bring in a dress than out, so I fiure if I drop a size that'll be ok. The girl at the shop also told me that 8 lbs lost is generally equal to one dress size which I didn't know before!

Anyway, I have a huge problem with cravings as well... but I usually hold out as long as I can and then let myself indulge and then get back on track. I can't deprive myself of anything so I might as well have it and then move on! I've also found that for me personally, I can follow an exercise routine better if I am part of a class (yoga, pilates etc). Its prob partly bc I know I paid for 8 weeks so I want to make sure I get my money's worth! And I think the group atmosphere motivates me to go. I'm not sure if anyone else is like that or not but I have a hard time just getting up and going to the gym (bleh!)

One big step I've taken in my diet is that in '08 I stopped eating red meat. Its mostly bc whenever I would eat it I would feel like crap (good enough reason, right? haha) But I'm really proud of myself that I've been able to replace the red meat in my diet with a healthier protein. I think that its definitely something everyone can change in their diets is eating less red meat... not only is it harder to digest but it much higher in fat and cholesterol than chicken, pork or seafood, so eating ground turkey instead of ground beef will make a big difference in your calories. Just a suggestion that has helped for me :) One side note is that bison is a huge exception to that rule.. bison is a super healthy, low fat protein (I've never had it but I hear its great!) Oh and I dont want anyone to think that I'm totally anti beef... I did write about that cravings problem of mine, right? lol...its very dangerous having a 5 Guys literally within walking distance to my house. But I figure a few times a year is ok!

I can't wait to read suggestions from all you ladies and to hear about everyones progress! Good luck!

Morning girls, Just commiting to this thread is helping me. When I go and reach for that damn cookie that has been calling my name from the cupboard, I think no, I would have to confess that to the other 2011 brides!!!!

I love my junk food, I know what I am suppose to eat and most times I will make the wrong choice. I do home daycare, its so easier to eat what the kids are eating then make a salad. So what I have been doing is make my lunch and snacks in the morning before the kids arrive, so this way I have no excuses (I have a million of them). I have also put my gym bag by the front door. And for me I have to weigh daily it keeps me honest. these are just a few little tricks I have been doing that are helping.

Weekends for me are the worse! It helps that FI is also needing to lose weight.

Good Luck girls we can do this!!!!

Good morning 2011 brides!

I have been attempting to do WW without great success for the past year. I lost about 30 pounds on it and then just sort of got stuck. I figure the only positive is that I have maintained my weight. My goal is to lose 15 more pounds!! I am with everyone on the stress eating part. I work as an IT consultant and some days make me insane with stress. I have been trying to pack my lunches and eat healthier. I love to exercise so I've got that part down, but eat to make up for it sad.gif

Goals: Drink more water and less diet dr pepper, 30 minutes of exercise daily, and no stress eating

I too would like to lose around 30lbs. I can go to the gym and I have been trying to go 5 days a week. But my eating habits are not helping. I thought of WW but I have never been too successful with that program. Has anyone tried Bikram? I enjoy it but the classes are expensive.

Hey ladies! I'd love to join this group. I've got another 30 pounds to get to my goal...although I'd be happy with 20 :) I've been doing Weight Watchers for 12 weeks, and have lost 10 pounds, but I haven't done any exercise. Honestly, I'd rather set myself on fire than exercise.

My goals are: drink LOTS more water, start exercising!, and get back to tracking regularly.

I wish all of you beautiful ladies luck!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
