Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

I am just curious what they have against DJ Julian and Doremixx.  I guess because they both didn't agree to the resort's contract now they are banned from the resort.  I am not sure what to do because DJ Julian was so great and responding and catering to our needs.  Stresssing now

My wedding is still about 7 months away so I have some time, but I really wanted to book this and be done with it.

I guess this is why Ana keeps avoiding my questions and repeatedly sending me Visual Sounds info...

I am SO FRUSTRATED with this DJ thing!!  I was going to use DJ Molina thru AVI too and I just got his email re: him not being allowed onto the Dreams property.  Ridiculous.  I'm assuming Dreams isn't getting a big enough kick back from these guys so they're just not letting them in at all.  I leave in 11 days and now I have to deal with this on top of the MILLION other little things i still have left to do!

I'm not too thrilled with using their DJ considering all of the reviews weren't all great.  We all know how important a good DJ is for your reception!!  and doremixx and dj molina had such great reviews.  :-(

Hey ladies,

I know that sucks about the DJ issue, I am sorry to hear that. Sounds like Dreams just really wants to use Visual Sound for everyone if possible. Maybe he is someone's relative or something. Haha.

We are getting married May 14th and have opted for this DJ, Visual Sound, or DJ Neri Mauricio, he seems to have various names he goes by.

We have been in contact with him and he seems nice and responsive. We are aware he has had some kinks the last few months and we are just hopeful that he will be super experienced by the time May 14th comes around.

Since music is super important for us, it was scary to switch to him with some not so positive reviews in the past on here, but I trust he will be fine and it will all work out.

We had already made an extremely detailed music "play list" and "do not play list," and we have sent him really specific instructions earlier this month, just because we want it how we want it, and hopefully he will stick to that and it will be just fine.

We also will have all the songs we want him to choose from on 2 ipods and burned CDs, just to be safe and in case he does not have all the songs we want (some are kind of random). We tried our best to make it clear that we only wanted him to choose from this particular pool of like 50-75 songs.

We did all this to try to alleviate some of the stress we were feeling after switching DJs from Doremixx. And hopefully it will at least lessen the chances of the music not being what we like.

We also have a family friend on the ready to take over MCing if needed, just in case DJ Neri has any trouble announcing the basics of the reception. This also makes us feel better.

I know it is more work to do these things but anything to help make the day/night flow better is a good thing, I think. Good luck to everyone, I am sure it will all be fine if you are ready for possible hiccups. I will obviously review my experience on here and let everyone know how DJ Visual Sound worked out and what to look out for.

Hope it all works out okay for everyone!

lcraney,

YES Please let us know how he does at your wedding!! Mine is May 29th right after yours and it looks like i'll be stuck with this DJ Neri/ Visual Sound guy as well.   I'm going to try and make a "play list" and "do not play list" thats a great idea to keep it safe proof so everyone has a good time.  Hopefully we can find the time we still have so much to do!  Thanks for the heads up tho!

Hey Tiger

Why are you paying so much for yoru room deposits?  I would renegotiate that if possible.  You can negotiate EVERYTHING!!!!!  That's the best advice I've recieved so far, if they want the business, they will comp at your request.  Please remember that. Our 10x 10 block went like this, it we held 10, it was a $50 deposit per room per double, triple was $25.  So to hold our first 15 rooms was only $600!! Our room was $100 but we wanted the preferred suite, it has something or another that got our attention, I don't remember now. But we only got this from working with a TA, when I went on my own, it was much more.

What about the DJ's ladies?  I''m trying to figure out who to go with and how to save money on them. My head is swimming from all of the different suggestions and I don't know who to go with at this point!  Although the wedding isn't until May 2012 but if I can get some specials now ,vs. next year, I want in on that.  What about decorations, I have a really good contact on flowers down there. My co-worker got married at Dreams Cancun and this lady did ALL of her flowers, gazebo, bouquet, bridesmaids, isle and everything for $250!!!!  Just be patient as she is slow to respond. [email protected]  If you google that email, her facebook and web page come up

I contacted several TAs, and all the rates we got were more $$ than online prices. I asked if they would match online prices and most said no, because it was already a special rate.

The big thing for us was that we HAD to block a minimum of 10 rooms (at least that's what they told us), which we would have put down a $100 deposit on (so $1000). If we couldn't fill all 10 rooms then we'd lose our deposit for those unfilled rooms. Since we're having a smaller wedding, I didn't want the pressure of making people book through the TA, when they could just book on their own for way cheaper (the package deals were usually cheaper too, air + hotel). Idk, I just pictured us having like 5 rooms booked and then almost "begging" people to book through the agent so we wouldn't lose $.

We ended up booking OUR trip right when the air rates came out as packages (about 11 months out) and it ended up being about $800 cheaper than what we were quoted.

I will say, there are many benefits to having a TA and blocking rooms (like not having to pay in full right away), but it just didn't work out for us.  Anyway, good luck and congratulations!!

We also did up a playlist. Some of our favs and I bbm'd and facebook'd all of our guests and told them to send my their top 5 all time favourite songs to put on the list.  Our reception is 6:15-9:15 so with all the songs on the list, he won't even have space to deviate. (We're heading to Desires afterwards) so rather than give myself any additional headaches trying to fight DRC with this whole DJ debacle, I figure if he sticks to the list- how bad can it really be? Here's to hoping anyway.  We leave in 1 week today and I have finally come into the "It is, what it is" mode :-)

Ursula,

I will be using Avi Productions, ti's another approved DJ with Dreams.  I am not sure who will be the DJ, I am still waiting on a response from them.  I heard from [name removed per request of poster] that the General Manager owns Visual Sound that's why he is so adamant about everyone using Visual Sound and disapproving all the other vendors.

11 days, that's right around the corner my dear.  Good luck to you and let us know how everything goes:)  I am pretty sure everything will all work out.
