Legal Jamaica wedding?

Recommended Posts

Can someone lead me in the right direction? :-) If I am getting married in Jamaica but live in CA, do I apply for a CA marriage license? I am sending a required notarized copy of birth certs to Jamaica but not sure what to do? I want this legal! lol...

You can have a legal wedding in Jamaica if you want to. You only have to be in Jamaica a day or 2 beforehand, and have your birth certificate and divorce papers if applicable.

The other way to do it is to get married in CA first at the courthouse (you see the girls on here talking about their "legal day") and then have a symbolic wedding in Jamaica.

I'm not sure if CA is like NY but once we get married in Jamaica our marriage is legal in the state of NY as well so I do not have to do the whole court house thing. Find out from your county clerks office if A jamaica license is honored out there.

I Live in Philly Pa. I just called downtown and they gave me the OK.Other Islands are not acknowledge in the U.SI do suggest to get a extra copy of license just in case something happen to the one you will receive from Jamaica.Give it to either one of your parent of someone that you can trust. Then you won't be running rapid

This is great information. I am planning a Jamaican wedding and I was concerned if I would have to get married in the US first.

Thank you!

Yes I wondered this too but from what I have researched, Jamaica is one of the easiest places to get married and it all transfers legally to the US. Guess we made a good choice!

    • You can hire a graphic designer on Fiverr to create the wedding cards then just print them yourself. Another option so you can save money is to create the card how you want it on Canva and have them printed at a printing shop.

I only find one store known as Lavenderpaperie.com where the cards are lovely and unique, But I want to know the other option name so that I can choose best wedding card. Please, if you have any suggestion on where to go, let me know. Thanks & Regards,

    • Hi Brides! I have a Wally Bag - 66" available - $90 + shipping (US only) The wally bag typically sells for $120-$180. I used this gown bag once to transport my dress from MN to Mexico for our wedding - IT WAS PERFECT!   I was actually able to pack 4 additional maxi dresses, and my husband's wedding attire, plus a few pairs of shoes and some jewelry. I packed the dress the night before we left, and just moments before we left, I zipped the bag and folded it - ready for travel. It comes up with a nice over-the-shoulder strap, making it really easy to carry through the airports. No issues on Delta with the bag as my carry-on - I chose to put in the overhead bin, but the flight attendant did offer to hang it in the closet for me. Once we got to the resort, about 10 hours after I first folded the bag, I unpacked the bag and my dress was perfect - no wrinkles! My dress was mostly lace and had a bit of a train, but it arrived perfectly!  Honestly, this is the best way to travel with your dress!
