I always wash them in hot water because in my head i feel like it kills more germs. not sure if its true. I do clean my comforter in cold though.

Debs I've TOTALLY read that article about closing the lid before you flush, so I make FI do that ALL the time now! It grossed me out so much. It said that the fecal matter can "spray" up to 6 feet away!!! Ewwwwww! I also am pretty careful now with putting everything on our bathroom counter away if possible. It scared me so much I'll never forget it!

As for the sheets, I aim for every week but sometimes it's 10 days to 2 weeks before I change them. Whoopsies.

I'm not good at this ! I change them usually every other week, like, I look at the bed and I think "ewwww" meaning it's already too late lol !

Always hot water though ! The hot water from here is actually not hot enough for me. With the top load machines, you can only chose "hot", "warm" and "cold. With front load you can chose the temprature, and I learnt since I'm a child that you should "boil" (ie use 90 degrees C / 210 F water) all body cloth - towels, linens, etc - to kill germs, get rid of little skin particules, etc. When I purchase linens of towels I always make sure I can use at least 60 degrees C water - ie 150 Fahrenheit. My next household investment will be a front load machine, for this and the happiness of finally not tearing my shirt apart with the nasty central stuff in the machine !

I wash my sheets every weekend too.

I also heard about the toilet thing. It actually grosses me out to use public restrooms b/c there is no lid. So I try to stand by the door and use my foot and then run? Haha! I'm weird. It is gross to think about. I clean everything once a week except daily stuff like dishes. But that way I tend to think its not as dirty. Sunday is our cleaning day. We clean everything.

About the hot water thing...I use only cold. I figure the heat of the dryer will clean anything that didn't make it. But I can't justify using hot water when it takes so much more energy to heat it. Oh well.

I too change them every weekend, and in the guest room -- after every guest leaves -- I always tell my guests not to fuss with the bed on the day they are leaving -- and strip the bed. I couldn't imagine sleeping in sheets that were second hand
