Wow - what a range in budgets! This is a big concern of ours... we are hoping to come in between 5 - 10 at the max including the reception(s) at home afterward. Guess I'll post back here when all is said and done!

I too have a goal of 5-10K for my wedding but that is proving to be nearly impossible. Some of the things pushing my budget up include the fact that I am paying for all 6 of my bridesmaid dresses (which will double as their gift) and the fact that I am having two ceremonies (one bengali one in Toronto and then my DW). The two ceremonies include two different outfits for myself and the groom and we will be serving dinner at both. I am also pushing for a higher end resort to ensure that my guests have a quality time. However, I may just dumb that down a bit to keep costs lower for everyone.

In any case, my budget is looking like it will be realistically between $11 - $13K CAD inclusive of taxes, gratuities, and all wedding related costs. The only thing not included is the cost of my e-ring at $3500 which came with a wedding band for myself.

My fiance and I are footing 100% of the costs and are not footing the bill for anyone else's travel. We are adding very little to no extras to our wedding packages for which the cost is looking to be between $2000-$3000 inclusive of a semi-private dinner and cake for all 40 of our anticipated guests. No excursions or group activities have been planned that cost extra (will just do dinner reservations on resort and/or do group resort activities part of the all-inclusive). We will do basic OOT bags. I have allotted money for videography and photography although I may get BIL to do videography and save money. No DJ, no ipod; may just go to the resort night clubs to dance it up. I will do my own hair and make-up (my hair is short so it can't do the fancy up-dos anyway, and I have enough make-up saavy family that I don't need to pay for this).

My bengali ceremony is probably the more fuzzy part of my budget since I haven't itemized pricing yet, however it is going to be very low key, private (<50 people), and prolly in my fiance's home so I don't see it running us more than $2000 inclusive of food (some ordered (~$300), some cooked by parents), decor (fiance's dad is pretty good with decor), drinks (non-alcoholic since fiance's family is muslim), outfits (~$720) and the Imam to do the ceremony (prolly $200-300). If there is room in the budget, I will "splurge" on someone to wrap my sari and do my make-up for $150, but I can do this myself anyway. My mom will drive me to his place and the ceremony will start :)

While I have definately cut out a lot of things that I would have liked to have added, my fiance and I also need to save for moving out of our parents home into our own and we need to buy a car. And, if I am honest, I may even choose to turn the DW into a honeymoon just to keep costs further down if I see it is getting out of hand.

Hope that gives some context to our budget. It is one thing to quote a number, but I think when you take everything into consideration (i.e. who is paying, # guests, what is included/not included) it is better appreciated.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
