what are the beaches like in Jamaica?

As others said, Negril has an amazing beach! Soft sand and clear water! The cliffs are gorgeous as well. We couldn't decide so we honeymooned at Sunset at the Palms AND The Caves. Both areas are fantastic :)

one of the things my co-worker mentioned to me was that you have to be on 7 mile beach in negril to be on the best part. She said the Riu's are on a small bay just off 7 mile beach and it wasn't quite as awesome.

Although the beach sounds best in Negril, I think I've decided on Ocho Rios because I want us to have more stuff to do off the resort and the beach still wounds pretty awesome there.

I have only stayed at the Grand Lido Negril and had an amazing time! The beach was in a private cove so you had the beach but could also ski/wakeboard with the free provided boat (which I indulged in daily after my morning dive) and if you walk down past the Couples/Sandals Places (or have the boat driver deliver you as I did), there is an amazing beach with a local serving of lobster where you eat on the beach called the Lobster Pot....most amazing day on the beach in my life in all the countries I have been to.

Best part of Negril is there are no tourist cruises, like there is in Ochos or other places so it is private.

We just got back from our wedding week in Negril at Couples Swept Away. We had guests at Couples Negril, RUI, Hedonism, and Grand Lido, all said CSA had the best beach in Negril. As someone else mentioned you don't have cruise ships which is a plus. My hubby and friends have been to Ocho Rios and liked Negril better.

Last fall my hubby and I went to Punta Cana, I agree awesome beaches! CSA is absolutely in that ballpark! Gorgeous clean, blue water, white powder sand, perfect!

Hope this helps!

I just got married 2 weeks ago atRiu Montego Bay and that resort and beach are AMAZING!!! I have a friend that honeymooned 2 months ago at ROR and she saw the video and pictures and said our resort was WAY clear and the beach looked a lot nicer. She said there was lots of sea weed. At our resort the water was warm, the sand was soft and warm also....

I've been to Riu Ocho Rios twice and can tell you the reason we keep going back and also the reason we are getting married there is the beach and also the fact that every room has an ocean view. That is something that you cant pass up!! Its not as long as maybe beaches in NEgril but it sure is blue and very swimmable. Plus if you enjoy snorkeling there is a good small reef and also a bit farther out to see is an even bigger really good reef and the best part is that its right off the boyes of the resort beach. so you could easily swim out or take a small boat out to the larger reef.

I just got back from Riu Ocho Rios a couple days ago and my husband and I were very dissapointed in the beach there...we love long beaches cause we walk a lot and the beach at riu is about a 5 minute walk each way. The sand and water was nice but like someone mentined there is a bit of seeweed and it floats in doesn't grow in the ground.

I've also been to Riu Negril and the beach is longer there and you can walk for miles but it is very narrow and the sand and water dont compare to riu ocho rios.

My husband and I are HUGE beach people, we usually go to the places that have beautiful beaches so for us Jamaica doesn't compare to Punta Cana...sorry hope I'm not making it difficult for you but that's just my opinion and I guess everyones idea of a great beach is different...so depends what you are looking for

here are a few pics of the beach from Riu Ocho Rios

also on a side note my biggest pet peeve about RIU ocho rios was the amount of people harassing you on the beach to buy drugs, everytime we would go for a walk my husband would get swarmed

Wow sorry that turned out to be a very negative post sad.gif but the room had a great Ocean View and the pools were GREAT there

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
