DREAMS PUERTO VALLARTA "thread"

When they say 4 hour reception that includes a 1 hour cocktail hour if you are having the cocktail hour. If not then you should have 4 hours for the actual reception (dinner, dancing, etc). We paid $10 / person for 1 hour extra in January 2011..... we had a 1 hour cocktail hour and 4 hour reception (last hour at extra cost).

that was my issue. I had assumed that the prices at the time of deposit would be honored. Louise wanted emails stating prices that I was given -  I did not have a lot because, as I said, I figured the prices at the time of deposit would be honored. After we canceled, Louise told me they were going to honor everything - unfortunately she never said that. My advice would be to get a contract ASAP.

Yes Esman is the one I've been in contact with.  He usually gets back to me in a few days but only answers one or two questions and I can't get a direct answer from him sometimes.  It is very frustrating. I assumed that the prices that were in the packages at the time I booked were the prices that they would honor.  I told him that and he said he would honor those prices but I don't have any email from Rebecca stating that.  Did he ask for proof in email form?

In regards to contracts. Demand one ASAP!! I began asking for one in September and was never directly answered, I was told I didn't need one or that I could wait and one time I was told they were working on one for me. I never got one until January and when I recieved it, it was compeltly wrong, the prices were all way higher, things I had asked for were not included and others were added in that I specifically asked not to have were in there. I had assumed that I would be honored pricing from when I put down my deposit but that was not true. I told Esman that I felt they were not doing good business or being honest. He wound up telling me he would honor any price Rebeca or Louise had quoted me and what ever was not quoted, I would have to pay all of the new prices.

I have a question for brides getting the ultimate or love package.  I was just told by Esman that my guests could not pick their menu and I would only be able to choose one option for all my guests.  I am vegetarian and we also have several children attending.  I can't believe that all my guests need to eat the same thing!

I saw earlier posts from other brides that said they were able to choose their menu as long as they told Dreams in advance and where each guest was sitting.  Did anyone else hear this?  I am sooooo frustrated at this point with all the different info I'm getting.

Thank you!

Thank you for letting me know.  I am compiling an email to him in regards to all the prices that I have that were posted at the time of my deposit.  I am expecting them to honor that.  But I don't have anything in writing.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

We were married this past January and picked 2 menu options (set menu 1 and set menu 1 then asked each guest to pick either #1 or #2). With each name place holder we wrote either #1 or #2 so the servers knew whom to serve what. Man are they getting inflexible and stingy... I think brides should start seriously considering other resorts for their big day....

Esman sent me the "Vegetarian Menu", as myself and two people in our bridal party are vegetarians. You'll notice how only 2 of the entrees are vegetarian. Not sure how a chicken dish is considered veggie. I asked him about this, and he just replies by resending me the menu. So, if I don't want to have soup for my wedding supper, I guess I'm having VEGETABLES AND GOAT CHEESE INVOLTINIS". Whatever that is.

But as far as I know, he is letting the rest of the guests have steak and just bringing out the vegetarian meal for the three of us.

We were told we could give our guests a choice but we had to provide the resort with each guest's choice and a seating chart 2 weeks prior. We have one set menu for apps, soup, and dessert and then we gave guests a choice of fish provencial or the steak and chicken dinner.

Also, as far as the prices, let me know what Esman says. He was pretty set on only giving me prices that were quoted in emails even when I argued that I paid a deposit in July of 2010 and had been asking for a contract for months on end.

Only 4 more months to go!!

they told me the same thing 3 years ago. i told them to stuff it. eventually we were able to pick 2 dishes and have the guests decide beforehand.

you want something, demand it. then get it in writing. bring printouts of everything.

Hi Ladies,

I'm getting married at Dreams in less that 6 weeks! I decided not to confirm any of the details until about a week ago, as I've noticed from the board that you seem to get quicker responses the closer it is to your wedding. Here is what I have done, and it has worked great!

I sent one big email to esman, outlining all the details I wanted, broken down by category (ceremony, reception, menu, flowers, etc.).

He responded within a day with answers or comments to everything, or just "OK".

I was unhappy with a couple things, so very friendly I suggested an alternative and very firmly I told him I would NOT pay for some extras (examples: I have 40 guests, but only wanted the cocktail hour food that is included in my package, I would not pay the 25 per person extra. Also, I would not pay extra for a cake for 40 people.) He responded again by the next day, and accepted all my changes.

My contract draft arrived the next day. I noticed that he was charging me $45 per person extra for the dinner. I replied telling him Rebecca quoted me $40. The next day the revised contract arrived, with $40 per person, no questions asked.

So far, he has been soooo helpful and prompt. He emails me twice a day! So my advice for brides that are still a ways away from your wedding, just sit tight. They seem much more willing to help the closer you get to your day!

I feel pretty good now that most of the details have been hammered out.

Oh, we decided to go with a chocolate fountain too. In case anyone else is interested, it is $5 per person and comes with marshmellows, strawberries, kiwis and bananas.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
