Did he say why he wants a VVS1 clarity grade? At that grade only a gemologist would be able to see inclusions with 10X magnification. It's very high clarity and you will definitely pay for it and may have to sacrifice in other areas like carat, color, and most importantly cut grade.

I'm helping a friend by a ring for his future FI and we've been finding that clarity ups the price more than color grade, but he finds the color more noticeable to the naked eye. But I also know that for other people the symbolism of have a near flawless diamond is very important.

I think Lilpaisley probably could speak to it best have just finished gemologist school.

That ring you picked out is fabulous!! But I would definitely find somewhere that has a great service plan. As mentioned Helzberg does require a check every 6 months but it is a lifetime warranty and they clean it when you bring it in for the check.

even cheaper than $60. This is where I'm getting Mike's ring.

Lower price doesn't always mean lower quality. Tungsten is an industrial grade metal & a simple tungsten ring doesn't need to cost $200.

Diamond Education

This might help. I think the main thing to avoid is something that can be seen with the naked eye. If it takes magnification to see it, who cares. Atleast I wouldn't.

Also if you don't find a diamond ring you like in your price range that is the quality you want, you can check out other stones. Sapphires come in blue, pink, yellow & white & are much less expensive than diamonds.

LadyP....I see you live in Philadelphia -- maybe one of the ladies here can recommend a nice jeweler for you to check out? I "thought" there was kind of a "diamond district" in Philly, similar to what I've heard of in NY, but i'm not sure. I think you'll find that most if not all of the "chain jewelery stores" (Zales, Kay, etc.) are going to have mostly diamonds with " I " clarity..be it "I1", "I2", or "I3". AND, I don't think you'll find the cuts of the stones to be much better than "fair to good". Besides the fact that their prices are sooooooooooo inflated.

While I know a few of the chain stores may carry better than "I" clarity, you're going to pay for it through them and get a lot less for your money than you would if you were to go with a private jeweler. I'd definitely seek out a jeweler other than one of the "chain stores" for better quality, selection, and value.

BUT, I don't think you need a stone with a clarity of "VVS" -- yeah, I'd love to have that, too...but as someone else here mentioned, upgrading in clarity is more pricey than upgrading in "color". I think if you can find a stone that has a "very good" to "excellent" cut...with say color no lower than "H" to "J" (as someone else mentioned)...with even as low as an "SI1" to "SI2" clarity, you'd see a significant difference between that and most of the stuff you're seeing at Zales. I would have loved to have gotten an "SI1", but I just coudln't justify the hike in price -- and I have to say, I'm more than thrilled w/my ring -- the cut really helps with the sparkle you'll see, and I can't see anything in my stone w/the naked eye.

One of the girls here sent you a chart a few posts ago to help show you the differences in clarity, color, etc...I think it'll really help you to see what everyone is saying.

    • The cooking method can double the calorie content of a meal, so learn about healthy cooking without having to add extra fats, like using a steamer,  a rotisserie , a slow cooker , a pressure cooker, a grill. Once you cook your own meals, you can control the calorie content because your control the cooking method and all the ingredients. A lot of people are overweight because they keep eating food that they did not cook.
    • I have stayed at Dreams La Romana and Dreams Dominicus.  The two resorts are very different in style and decor. A few comparison points are below and fact sheets are attached for both.   Both resorts are approx 45 minutes from Punta Cana airport, close proximity to Saona Island, Catalina Island and Altos de Chavon. Top championship golf courses in the Caribbean are just minutes away including Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore, The Links and La Estancia – all designed by world-famous Pete Dye. Restaurants are similar at both resorts.  Both offer the Explorers Club for Kids.  Dreams Dominicus  Brand new resort and in 2016 488 rooms (however additional construction was underway) More contemporary style & decor Good beach area Rooms were very nice Preferred Club located in main lobby and adjacent to main pool & beach front Food was good Center plaza area with nighttime entertainment Main lobby is small, but outdoor bar off lobby is nice Dreams La Romana Originally built in 2003 & opened as Dreams La Romana in 2008 756 rooms Recently renovated and new preferred club adults only lounge & pool added  Rooms are more traditional Caribbean decor Grounds are very lush and tropical Good beach area food was good    Dreams Dominicus fact sheet.pdf Dreams La Romana fact sheet.pdf
