Question for fellow black brides Re: hair plans

This thread reminds me of the "Friends" episode where everyone goes to Jamaica and Monica ends up with ginormous frizzy hair.

But, of course because this is your wedding it will NOT be funny if your hair ends up like that. focus.gif

Oh great! I got the rollers (actually they are in my head as I type), I got the Lotta Body, and ummmm... oven... but its human hair... you think it will start to smell? lol I will do a dry run when I get them before I leave. So should I roll my actual hair on my head too before I add the hair? And I have a question about this style... Is that a banana clip holding the hair like that? If you noticed, it pulled back but not in a full ponytail.

LOL..no, it shouldn't smell. If it starts to, that means your oven is too hot or you've left it in too long. Shouldn't smell anything any worse than what you notice curling your hair with a hot iron.

Remember, this isn't direct heat, its more surrounding the hair with hot air. The oven shouldn't even be as hot as your average curling iron.

Oh, and I think the style is to wide to be a banana clip. I'd think that was over sized bobby pins keeping it in place. You know, the big ones? Looks to me like it would work with about six of those...three on each side.

Hi ladies.......okay, just to warn you...this is gonna be a long one.

Okay, when i was first reading this thread, I felt a bit weird about some of the comments, but since that has already been addressed, I believe that we can move on. I have been natural (relaxer-free)for the past 5 years and it was definitely a challenge for me at first......i was the girl who would DIE if my roots were not bone straight or if my "kitchen" was a bit kinky, but now, I LOVE MY KINKY, NATURAL HAIR and will NEVER relax again. I've honestly LOST SLEEP about what I would do with my hair in JA. I have VERY thick, kinky hair. Here is a pic:

I debated long and hard to decide what i was going to do to have my hair "hold up" for my wedding.......so i began "training" it since the beginning of this year. I've been getting it pressed every week and my hair is "reverting" less easily now. My stylist is planning on attending my wedding, so she will do my hair, RIGHT before the ceremony. She still hasn't booked, so i'm a little bit concerned. Just in case she can't make it, I'm bringing all of my ceramic irons (my sedu, maxiglide, chi) and all of my styling tools and products.

Hello Ladies,

Have you considered using Chi Silk Infusion. I use this product regularly and I can testify that it REALLLLLLY works at fighting humidity and leaving your hair looking silky. Wish I could post a pic of my hair right now; but, I'm at work.

Also, it is not a heavy product. You can check out review of Chi Silk Infusion at: User Reviews for CHI Transformation Silk Infusion

I love the styles you have chosen, but I'm not brave enough to risk it on my day! My natural curls are not as tight as yours are and so my hair frizzes at any thought of humidity! I used to go to a dominican salon until I bought a Chi and now i can get my hair as straight as they do. I'm planning to straighten my hair before I leave and wear it straight on the first day and see what happens. If I'm not a complete frizz ball by the end of the day then I might consider wearing my hair half down.

At any rate, I guess I'll be the test dummy for everyone next week!

I have used their spray that goes along with the flatiron but I will try this product this weekend after I do a touchup on my roots and flatiron my hair.

I like Chi products as well. They work very nicely. Something new that I've been trying are Mizani Products. I used their puriphying shampoo, Fulfyl Conditioning Treatment, Thermasmooth Shine Extend Anti-Humidity Spritz, and Shyne Bodifying Sheen Spray. The products made my hair really shiny and it gave it some body. I even went out in the rain today and my hair was fine. Normally my hair would have been a puffy mess but we got along today. I also find that using a ceramic flat iron helps as well.

What would you all suggest would be a good way to go about accomplishing a hairstyle without weave and on my own? Involving loose curls and no formal updoshuh.gif I will post pics of ideas later, but I need help following that idea through...lol
When you curl you hair like this, does it stay all day? When i use the chi I can't curl my hair, one side falls before I can curl the other side.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
