I had asked about candles and they will supply them - but charge you something like $2 or $3 a candle.

Have either of you, or anyone worked with Zulma as the wedding planner? I met her in person and she is so sweet, but extremely unresponsive in email. How soon before the wedding do they send you the contract? Thanks for this advice, I feel like the only things that's out of our control is when the wedding planners send people the contracts.

Hello fellow RPDC brides!  I've been sporadically reading this thread since I booked my wedding a few months ago (all of your comments have been so helpful!), now that the big day is getting closer, I figured it was about time to dive in.

I'm getting married at the RPDC on September 7th, ceremony at the gazebo, cocktail hour in the garden and reception in the ballroom.  I'm really hoping we'll only have around 150 guests, my fiance and I wanted something smaller than that, but my parents got a little excited/carried away with the invites so there's a chance it could be even bigger!

I had been working with Bety and things had been going well, but after about a month of her not responding to my emails, Erik in the groups department emailed me and said she had gone to work at another hotel.  Erik was really helpful, but I had a feeling he wasn't going to be my contact for the long haul since he was in a different department.  I emailed Erik a bunch of questions the other day and he responded to me and said Patty Romero would be helping me from now on.  She reached out to me yesterday and she thought I was looking to book a wedding... I wasn't all that surprised (or offended) that she wasn't in the loop because of all the changes that had gone over there, but it was still a little weird that Erik hadn't at least briefly filled her in before referring her to me...  Anyway, I told her we'd already booked and she's supposed to be getting me in touch with a new WC soon, hopefully it's a good one!

Overall, I feel like I'm a little behind on the planning process.  I've found my dress, narrowed down a few choices for bridesmaid dresses, booked the rehearsal dinner at the hotel, and booked the wedding photographer (Melissa from del Sol).  And I've gone absolutely crazy on pinterest.  :)  I feel like I still have a lot to do!!  It's going to be here before we know it!

I wouldn't worry to much, my wedding is July 21'st and I dont even have that much done. I am still nervous about my WP because she doesnt respond for weeks at a time, but I'm hopping that will change as it gets closer, otherwise maybe I'll have top fins another planner. But really dont want to. Zulma is her name, I keep asking, but haven't found anyone that has her yet.

Hi, Ladies! I'm on my way to my bachelorette party! Woo hoo! I can't believe the wedding is only a week away! I just wanted to take a moment to tell you all just how impressed I have been with my onsite coordinator, Lilia. She has been amazing! She has literally answered every question I had within 2 hours! Even when I asked her today about making a reservation for Chef's Plate the day of our arrival! I totally thought she would respond on Monday, but she had our reservation confirmed within 2 hours! It's been really great to work with her, and I'm super confidant about our wedding!

all right, ladies, I'm back! and it was so much fun - everything was exactly what I'd wanted. it was my third time to the Royal and I can't wait to go back.

it's going to take some time to compile all the thoughts I have floating around, but if you have any questions (mainly about the experience of being there), please don't hesitate to reach out, either on here or via PM. I'll stay in touch over the coming months and will continue to check in here, as long as things don't get too crazy with the house we're building.

the wedding planners are true professionals. I understand the frustration of people not getting back to you but just know that it all will be worked out, the royal staff is SUPER accomodating, and they really help you once you're there. they are swamped because they're working on as many as 10 weddings per day. it sucks when yours isn't the priority, but when you're there, you are, and you won't have to worry about a thing. it's the downside of destination weddings, but if you can make it through, it's all worth it. even when I was at the resort, I only saw my consultant (Denys) for about 20 - 30 mins, although honestly, that was all we needed and I didn't want to take time from my vacation and guests. we reviewed the details, she asked a few questions, and everything was executed flawlessly.

few other things I would have done differently:

* take time to unpack. we switched rooms the day of the wedding (NIGHTMARE!! but our own fault), and I spent our entire vacation searching for things. when you get there, agree to meet with your guests later the same day and take some time for yourselves to enjoy being there and organize all your things to make it all easier.

* if you're a type A planner, don't forget the Xanax. there was an element of stress with everyone there that had me running room to room to coordinate, and I was just a bit freaked out about all that was going on. it's A LOT, even just to talk to people for several days prior to the biggest day of your life. I frequently woke up in the middle of the night for no particular reason and was kind of running as soon as the sun was up. net/net, it's not necessarily the world's most relaxing time, but I am really glad I had all that time with everyone. it's one of the things I wanted most out of our wedding.

* we did the world's greatest day trip to Tulum with Yuca Treks. it was a private tour (they can accomodate up to 12 people), and just my immediate family opted to go. the stress level was lower because we were away from most of the guests, and it was soooo nice to get out and see something unique to the area. we visited the ruins, snorkeled in a cenote, and spent time at one of the most gorgeous beaches I've ever seen. initially, I was concerned about spending 8am - 4pm out of the resort, and although it caused me to lose an entire day prior to the wedding, I wouldn't have traded it for the world. people rave about Yuca Treks on TripAdvisor, and I can completely understand why. I'd strongly recommend it if you're considering an excursion (or even just a break for the family). seriously one of the best things we did. http://www.yucatreks.com/

also, there wasn't a single drop of rain in our 10 days at the resort. I think the crazy weather patterns ended with April. fingers crossed for everyone whose weddings are coming up!!

I'll save my more resort-specific points for reviews, both here and on TripAdvisor. again, please don't hesitate to reach out with questions. best of luck! in the end, it's all worth it. : )

Does anyone know if the hotel provides electric fans for outdoor private receptions? My mom is worried that at the end of June it will be so hot and stuffy. Thanks!!

    • we ended up using Facebook messenger when we were in Mexico - the hotel had free wifi and at least 1 person from each family/couple had FB on their phone already - it was pretty easy to communicate among guests "hey, we're heading to the beach bbq for lunch." or "everyone is hanging at the small pool today".  a plus was that some people tried to get a hold of me via FB on the day of the wedding and I was totally not checking my phone - they were asking if the wedding was outside given the rain forecast, thankful my mom, MOH and a few other friends were on the group and could respond for me :)

    • Hi Everyone, So, I was cleaning out my closet and realized that I never sold off my extra wedding OOT bag stuff from our wonderful DW.   46 Daily Spanish for Dummies 30 Pool colored OOT fabric bags - approximately 13in x 13in. They lay flat.  I used them for our wedding and they were perfect for everything we needed to fit in each bag. There’s a slight shade variation in the group; I’m guessing some were cut from a different bolt of fabric.  They are also a little wrinkled from storage and will probably be wrinkled from shipping. I have three additional ones, but they somehow got something on them (likely toddler related). If needed, I can try to wash it out and send those as well.
    • I’m getting married in six months to my foreign girlfriend. I was advised by a friend that one of the things I need to do before saying I do is to get a prenuptial agreement. Basically it’s supposed to protect my assets and properties in case my relationship with my future wife goes down the drain. I don’t know though if this is an acceptable practice when marrying Kiev ladies. I don’t want to do it if it would be insulting on her end. I need advice on this. Please help me.
