Thanks Mel!  Do you know who does the symbolic ceremony at Dreams?  I would rather not tell anyone we are doing that and hoping no one will know the difference.  Do you think we have can the symbolic ceremony so that it seems like the real deal?  We thought it would be easier also, so we don't have to worry about all the paperwork.  I've heard some people say they wish they just got married in states before they left to avoid the problems they came across.

I could be wrong but I think the WC will do the ceremony?  And I think the ceremony only last 10 to 15 mins?  But our friend he was technically ordained (sp) online msnwink.gif.  But he has done a few weddings and just sent me a draft of what he is going to say the outline is pretty much just like what a priest would say. It is perfect for what we wanted :)

Here is what the WC sent me when i asked what they say for the ceremony and it does take 10-15 minutes only). I will be using this as a guide, but i will rewrite it to what i would want said.

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here among family and friends, on this very special day with the purpose of uniting in marriage  (Insert names)  , who have made the decision today to join their lives and as a couple,  love and care for each other. United, they will soon begin a new chapter in their lives, fulfilling their dreams, reaching their stars, walking this new path of life side by side.

Marriage is a very special and serious bond that has its origins in a solemn agreement celebrated between a man and a woman who in their own free will declare their love and respect for each other. This union is a symbol of giving love, protection, faithfulness and passion. This sacred bond you will share will be the first step: joys and hardships will be met and overcome with happiness, love and truth.

We should all be proud of the decision that has been made here today in the presence of our loved ones, and to the happy couple, know that this day you have chosen will be forever yours to cherish, as the beginning of something beautiful as it is to start a new life with each other.

To complete this union, it is necessary that no one be opposed to it. If anyone among us knows of any reason to prevent this marriage, let them speak now or forever hold their peace.

If you have written vows for each other, please go ahead and share them now

(insert name) do you accept (insert name) To be your legitimate wedded wife? Do you promise to love her, honor her and protect her in good times and bad times, in richness and in poverty, in sickness and in health as long as you both shall live? As a sign of this promise and commitment, place the ring on (insert name) hand

VOWS (to repeat after ME)

I,  (insert name) take you (insert name)to be my wife, my partner in life and my one true love. I will cherish our friendship and love you today, tomorrow, and forever. I will trust you and honor you I will laugh with you and cry with you. I will love you faithfully through the best and the worst, through the difficult and the easy. As I have given you my hand to hold so I give you my life to keep.

(insert name)  do you accept (insert name) To be your legitimate wedded husband? Do you promise to love him, honor him and protect him in good times and bad times, in richness and in poverty, in sickness and in health as long as you both shall live? As a sign of this promise and commitment, place the ring on (insert name) hand

I, (Insert Name) take you (Insert Name) to be my husband, my partner in life and my one true love. I will cherish our friendship and love you today, tomorrow, and forever. I will trust you and honor you I will laugh with you and cry with you. I will love you faithfully through the best and the worst, through the difficult and the easy. As I have given you my hand to hold so I give you my life to keep.

SAND CEREMONY

(Insert names)   today you are making a life-long commitment to share the rest of your lives with each other. Your relationship is symbolized through the pouring of these individual containers of sand. You come here today from two different families. From these two families a new family will be created today. At this time, I would invite the parents of (Insert names)  to come forward.

There are four vessels of sand one to represent each family and one to represent (Insert names)

I now ask that the parents will take their sand and simultaneously pour the sand into the unity bowl symbolizing the foundation the uniting of the two families into one.   Now (Insert names)  add your sand to the vessel symbolizing the formation of your new family.

Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual containers, so will your marriage and your families be. PLEASE POUR!

(Insert names) remember Love is the eternal force of life. Love is the force that allows us to face fear with courage. But although you will be sharing one life, never forget you are two separate people. Cherish and affirm your differences. Love each other. Keep your commitment primary. Together you will laugh and cry, be sick and well, be happy and angry, share and grow. Grow sometimes together, sometimes separately.

Having no one oppose to his union, we have heard and witnessed the couples wish to marry and proclaim to the world their love in the Dominican Republic, on 05 OF November  2011  At the Dreams Punta Cana resort & Spa, we wish you all the best in the world or the rest of your lives. I now pronounce you husband and wife! You may kiss the bride!!! And now I am glad to present MR and MRS  (insert name)

Hi ChiStine,

We are officially booked for Sept 3, 2012.  So we'll be there at the same time!
I'm excited and nervous about booking site unseen.

I do have one question for the newly wedded.  I was dress shopping this past weekend.  Did anyone end up too hot in their dress?  Any thoughts on fabric?  I fell in love with one that has a satin underlay... will I die of heat?

Thanks everyone!

Hello everyone! I have decided to have the legal ceremony here at home too, but since it isn't finalized 100% I haven't moved forward with ceremony decisions at Dreams yet. If you haven't heard about Pastor Rick York yet on here- I will tell you that everyone that has used him gives overwhelming raves. He is American, and he performs the most beautiful and personalized ceremonies, not like the cookie cutter ones that Dreams does (which was another reason why I wanted to have my legal ceremony done at home). He only performs symbolic ceremonies and I think he charges $300. I know you can google him and get his email. Anyhow, once I figure things out more I will for sure be booking him!

Hey...

I am in the same boat about a maybe doing a legal ceremony here in MI and then just a symbolic one at Dreams.  My soon to be inlaws are not able to travel for the wedding so I am thinking we will just have them come to the wedding here so that they will feel that we included them.  But I did just book with Pastor Rick York yesterday and he responded to me (3) times already with one of those being a confirmation!  I could not believe how quick he gave me answers (less that 24 hours...crazy since we are used to waiting weeks for answers).  He charges $350US and said that the ceremony will be about 25min long.  He has both a traditional ceremony and a more contemporary one that he sent over.  They look perfect and he said that I can have our fam do some of the readings that he has included in the ceremonies.  He also includes the optional sand ceremony too but not to sure if I am going to do that just yet.  But like everyone one has said he is great to work with!

I heard he also has you sign a "certificate" at the end, so your guests won't know that the ceremony isn't legal. I really like that, because I wouldn't want my guests to feel weird about coming to a wedding when it isn't the real thing. I just hate all of the red tape you have to go through to have a wedding done legally in DP!

I just spoke with Pastor Rick also.  He is so quick to respond.  Thanks for telling about him!  He sounds perfect and is exactly what we are looking for!

    • It depends on how far you can go, Can you go out of US for destination wedding, If yes then their are tons of options Ex. Bali,Thailand is becoming the new hot spot for destination weddings, Other one I would recommend is Rajasthan,India It might be expensive wedding but totally worth it the wedding takes place in palaces. If you don't have that much of budget still their are many options available such as Sicily,Italy - get the authentic wedding ceremony in Italy other one i would recommend is going to Spain their iconic scenery are perfect for a wedding.
