  1. Hi everyone! I don't know if any of you have been on Trip Advisor lately, but I just saw that within the last two weeks there have been quite a few reports of DPC rooms getting broken into (sometimes through balcony doors) and guests have had their bags gone through and things stolen. One guy said that his phone rang repeatedly every 20 min but would hang up when he answered. When he came back from dinner he saw his room was rummaged through and things were stolen. Management did not seem concerned when the guests complained either. Just wanted to make you all aware, pass this on to your guests too- and always remember to use the safe!! Hopefully this person(s) who is doing this will get caught soon.
  2. Does anyone have any recommendations as far as what they recommend for the dinner menu?? What were your favorites?
  3. Hello everyone! I can't believe how long its been since I have been on here- but I thought I should since my wedding is coming up in Nov and I need to get to planning! For the ladies who have already had their weddings at Dreams, what kind of different vase options did they give you for centerpieces? Also I know they have different bouquet options (I have only seen a few of them), but are you just limited to the designs and flowers in the pictures or are you allowed to have more of a choice?
  4. Hi dreamsbride! Yes, I am using him for videography as well and also a TTD session the next day. I can't remember how much it came to, but if you email Michael he will send you the different package options.
  5. Hi dreamsbride! I am going with the ultimate package too except I am still using Michael Weiler for photography. So there will be two photographers for the ceremony, but that wasn't enough to make me downgrade my package since I do plan on using everything else that it comes with!
  6. Congrats DRwedgal and thanks for the awesome review!!! I feel bad that some things weren't done exactly as you wanted, it definitely concerns me now. I know they have so many weddings to deal with, but each one is so special and its a day you remember for the rest of your life- so the least amount of stress going through it the better! Its one thing if one or two small things are forgotten or messed up, but that many times is ridiculous. You took it better than I probably would, I think I would have finally snapped. I am glad that you enjoyed your day and had such a great experience with Michael! I booked him too and I can't wait to work with him.
  7. I did ask him if he could recommend anyone else and he said no, because he is the only english speaking pastor on the island.
  8. This stinks. I just found out that Pastor Rick York isn't available for my wedding ceremony Ugh!! I guess that means I am back to having the WC do it after all.
  9. I heard he also has you sign a "certificate" at the end, so your guests won't know that the ceremony isn't legal. I really like that, because I wouldn't want my guests to feel weird about coming to a wedding when it isn't the real thing. I just hate all of the red tape you have to go through to have a wedding done legally in DP!
  10. Hello everyone! I have decided to have the legal ceremony here at home too, but since it isn't finalized 100% I haven't moved forward with ceremony decisions at Dreams yet. If you haven't heard about Pastor Rick York yet on here- I will tell you that everyone that has used him gives overwhelming raves. He is American, and he performs the most beautiful and personalized ceremonies, not like the cookie cutter ones that Dreams does (which was another reason why I wanted to have my legal ceremony done at home). He only performs symbolic ceremonies and I think he charges $300. I know you can google him and get his email. Anyhow, once I figure things out more I will for sure be booking him!
  11. That's awesome you found your sand Mel! Way to go! I agree- I am so not looking forward to the creepy crawlies! Ska- those bouquet pics are totally different from the ones Carolina sent me! I asked if I could send a pic of bouquets I like instead of choosing from the samples and she never answered me (no surprise there). Good to know that there is that option!
  12. Wen, if you go on the DPC fb page, a lot of people were posting about it!! I know, it grosses me out too!Apparently they can be seen all over the island, but I guess the habitat around building 7 is more to their liking. Someone said a big one and a baby were right outside their room- just the thought of it really creeps me out. You better believe I am requesting my guests and I not be placed there!
  13. I have just read on the Dreams FB page that a lot of people are noticing a lot of tarantulas hanging out around building 7 (and they say they are huge!! EWW!)
  14. Hey Jen! Did you have a choice as far as what color you wanted the flower petals to be? It seems like a lot of people had red, but I really want white. I have no problem bringing my own if I need to, especially if they don't put out too much. Carolina also sent me bouquet pics- it was like 2 pages worth of samples. Is that really the whole selection you have to choose from? Someone earlier on here mentioned there was a book they went through to make their flower selections. How were their centerpiece choices? (thanks for all of your input by the way!) Ska- I am so excited for you!!!! You will have to let us know how the weather is while you are there- I am getting married Nov 2012 and I based that decision on hurricaine season being over as well. Plus everyone will be dying for warm weather as it gets colder around here!
  15. Hi there Jump1012! It always takes a while to get a response back from WCs. I was told that I would be able to make my hair and makeup appointment the week of the wedding. That being said though, I will contact the spa directly when it gets closer and see if they will let me schedule it. (I'm not getting married until Nov 2012) Jen- thanks! I have read so many times on here "why do people have a destination wedding and not get married on the beach- that's the whole point". I totally get why people say that, but I really want to wear heels with my dress, as funny as that sounds! I really love the gazebo too, it just looks so breathtaking in pictures. Btw, did you have the fabric put on the gazebo for your ceremony? ~Amber
  16. I Wen and welcome! We are having our wedding ceremony at the gazebo! I am probably the only destination bride out there that was looking for a resort that had non-beach ceremony options, and I thought that Dreams was by far the prettiest with the gazebo. Ska, thanks for the OOT bag info- and it was great that you included the links to everything that you bought! Its so nice to get some great ideas!
  17. How have you been doing Mel? I haven't looked for sand yet for the sand ceremony, but I will definitely let you know if I see anything in your colors! Maybe check out http://www.save-on-crafts.com/ I love this website! I don't know if you have seen it yet.
  18. Hi Mel! When are you guys getting married? We are planning a reception here at home too, something casual, but no idea where it will be. Everyone is offering to use their homes, my dad suggested going to a restaurant, and then my FI Ryan was thinking of having it at our future new home (and it would kind of be like a housewarming too). I guess we will figure it out as it gets closer. I get frustrated with the WC too, I can never get a response as quickly as I would like, and then they don't even answer some of the questions that you ask! They haven't taken my deposit yet either. I have heard (as you probably read already also) that they don't take the deposits for a long time. I think its really just in case you cancel- they haven't taken mine yet either. Who is your WC? I have Carolina. I haven't done too much yet with the planning! I will have Dreams supply my centerpieces for me, but I still have yet to decide on everything else! I hope you had a great weekend!
  19. Thanks Mel! I loved reading through all the posts even though it took me like a week and a half to do it!! I admit I was late for work a few times because I was so addicted. How is it going with your planning? ~Amber
  20. Oh, and you can see tons of beach wedding pictures on here too!
  21. Hi Mel! Welcome! This forum is great and you learn SO much being on here, especially since it can be so difficult getting questions answered by the WC. Have you read through all of the posts yet? Your bartender is included with your reception- the only thing is I believe one of the terraces (I think Himitsu) you share your bartender with the people in the restaurant. The Bordeaux terrace is now called Portofino Terrace and holds up to 40 people. A lot of people like it for the view of the ocean, but the only drawback is if it rains, your reception gets moved into the restaurant, and there won't be any music or dancing allowed. If you go back in the posts you will see pictures of all three terraces. I am not sure about the iPod dock station- I guess it depends on how loud it is and how many people you are having. Most people here get the speakers (also frees up more room in your suitcase) or they go with DJ Mannia. Yes, you pay for the wedding with your credit card. I heard you get the bill as you are getting ready. I was told that they do have a vegan option (which we had to be concerned about too) as well as meals for kids. I don't know about the shuttle service yet since we aren't going through a TA, but I'm sure other girls on here can answer that for you!
  22. I am using Michael Weiler, and I just booked him like a month ago for my Nov 2012 wedding. Yes, the resort still allows for outside photographers, but as always you just have to pay for them to have a day pass at the resort (I think its $75). Michael Weiler is amazing! My fiance has his own photography business on the side, so he wanted to pick who was going to do our pictures. I showed him a few websites of photographers down there including HDC who I thought was also great, but he liked Michael's work way better. I heard the resort photographer is good but just way expensive. I think in the package (which covers ceremony and a few pictures afterwards) you get 50 photos, but if you want anything more than that they charge you a ton of money.
  23. Congrats Alykay!! It sounds like you had a great time and not to mention a great wedding! I would love to see your pics!
  24. I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that the bonfire is only for an hour. Just keep in mind that with everyone paying the expense to travel out of the country for your wedding, that you may want to at least have some sort of a reception for your guests
