Hello! I know this resort is one of the smaller resorts so not many people are getting married here but I thought I would start a new thread and see if there are any other EL DORADO MAROMA brides this year or to hear from PAST brides and their experience. My wedding is set for September 9, 2016 at EDM with ceremony on sky deck and reception on beach. Booked photos with Sarani Photography (Lunic) and DJ Doremixx. Still working on the smaller details though. I did see the resort in September 2015 when attending the Bride Dress Rehearsal. I was originally booked for El Dorado Royale but my fiancé and I couldn't imagine our wedding there but thankfully fell in love with EDMaroma when we toured it. I would love to hear from future brides that are booked here or past brides that had their weddings here or even if you have stayed at this resort.

Jhankarlo Photography was the best decision ever! I can honestly say that I could not have asked for a better experience! I am from Texas and I had researched many photographers around the Cancun area to do my bridal portraits (pictures of the bride in her wedding dress to display the wedding) and I easily realized that Jhankarlo Photography was a PERFECT match. I wanted the photo shoot at multiple locations (beach, church, local market, local places, etc.). When I reached out to Jhankarlo, he immediately listened, understood my needs, and provided suggestions and thoughts to help accommodate my requests. The day before my photo shoot in Cancun, Jhankarlo reached out to me to make sure I was ready for the photo shoot and asked if I needed anything before – I thought this was VERY thoughtful! I was VERY nervous the morning of the photo shoot. All my nerves went away as soon as Jhankarlo and his team picked my mother and I up for the photo shoot. His generosity and hospitality were remarkable and I could not have asked for a better photographer. He was not like typical photographers – he is highly creative and artistically thoughtful in each photo taken. He has such an amazing talent for capturing unique scenes/moments in each location. He also used natural scenery to bring out the culture of the area, which is exactly what I wanted. He showed me some of the photos on his camera and I never been more impressed. These are “WOW” photos that I know my guests will LOVE to see when I display them at the wedding reception. I was worried that I would not be able to go to all the different locations due to time but Jhankarlo ensured me that I could take my time during the photo shoot and time was not an issue. He wanted me to be as comfortable as possible. Other photographers I have worked with have put a time limit on the photo shoot. I do not like having my photo taken but he made me feel very relaxed and at ease. Overall, my experience with Jhankarlo Photography was highly positive. I want to thank Jhankarlo for the best experience ever! I HIGHLY recommend Jhankarlo Photography. Not only is he a genuine and enthusiastic person, he is a phenomenal photographer (just look at his photos)!

Well I finally couldn’t wait any longer to start my planning thread even though I’m still 9 months out from our wedding J I’ve seen so many great ideas on this forum and everyone is so helpful giving ideas. How we met: My FI and I met at university. In our degree of New Media there aren’t exactly a lot of… “normal” guys. It’s mostly the type that live in their mothers basements playing video games and are too scared to talk to girls haha. (No offence if that’s your type… I just prefer a guy who…isn’t that). Well anyways Kyle and one of his best friends lived together and were in every single class together which also happened to be almost all the same classes as me. We talked a bit but I wouldn’t even go as far as saying we were friends after first year of University. Once we got to second year we met properly at a Halloween party where well.. Kyle thought it would be fun to dress up as an office ninja and attack me (batgirl). Its amazing I’m marrying this guy haha. We became really good friends that year and once third year hit and we were back at classes in the fall we decided to make it official and start dating J The Proposal: The proposal all fell into my FI’s lap as I basically did all the hard work for him without even know it it I should start with the fact that I was on pinterest and noticed a couple rings I liked and thought I’d test the waters and show Kyle. He said “cool, send me a picture of them”. I was flabbergasted as marriage had been a taboo topic with him up until that point. Needless to say I took full advantage of the situation and sent him about 10 different rings I liked. I think I overwhelmed him and he said, tell you what, you have one day at the mall and one day only to show me as many rings as you like, and after that you aren’t allowed to even mention rings to me. I accepted the challenge and showed him lots of rings. Amazingly he was more of a ring shopper than I was. He made me go to all the stores a second time when I thought I was done haha. Ansyways, both Kyle and I are outdoorsy/ active people. We normally book a snowshoeing weekend in the mountains in the winter and go hiking lots in the summer. Last summer we didn’t seem to have as much time to go hiking so we decided one night over dinner that we would book a weekend getaway to the mountains to go hiking. (Apparently this worked out perfectly to his plans). I found a great deal for a suite in Canmore, Alberta and I booked it. Our friends had recently been on a hike and told us about it and so we knew where we were going to go hiking. (this was probably all about a month before we were actually going). So then, my parents live in Europe and told me that they were going to come visit at the end of September (unexpectedly). Again, this worked out perfectly for Kyle. He said he was going to send my dad a video asking for my hand in marriage and now he was going to be able to do this in person! Perfect…except I almost cancelled our trip knowing my parents would be visiting and I’d want to spend time with them. Luckily they convinced me to go anyways haha. So our October hiking trip arrived and I packed us hot soup (since it was the fall) for our lunch at the top of the mountains, really only packed hiking clothes and one cute top for dinner that night. Off we went. We hiked up to the top, taking pictures along the way and just having a great hike. We were eating our soup and then I must have put my water bottle lid on so tight I was really struggling to open it when kyle said need help? And I was stubborn and said no way I can do it, and looked up and he was down on one knee with a ring in hand. I was absolutely shocked and I have no idea how I didn’t see it coming. Me being so nervous and excited in the moment I said “thank you” to him when he said “will you marry me”. (Being that I grew up in Europe, Kyle always jokes that there are translation issues between us and he thinks I didn’t understand haha but I did!) He had champagne ready on the mountain for us and then told me that once we got down the mountain back to the hotel we were going for a couples massage and then to Banff for dinner J It was so amazing (except I didn’t really have clothes for the occasion haha). We decided to not go hiking the next day so that we could get back to the city early to tell our families and friends the amazing news! Everyone seemed to expect it except for me. I wasn’t expecting it till the winter when we would go on our snowshoeing trip haha. It was an amazing weekend to say the least. The Travel Agent: Now for the tricky planning…. We knew instantly that we wanted to do a destination wedding since my sister had done that 3 years prior and it was amazing! I also didn’t want to worry about any family drama or worry about feeding 100 people. So we contacted a couple travel agents and started getting some quotes. Everything was coming back way too much money unfortunately. We decided to work with one specific travel agent who at the time seemed on the ball and knew what she was doing. We finally agreed upon a resort in Los Cabos, Mexico. The resort was called Peublo Bonito Pacifica. Things started to get crazy and the resort wouldn’t answer my emails or book our wedding and when they did every little tiny thing was a big extra cost. I had asked my travel agent if booking the flights before confirming a date with the hotel was risky and she said no that’s fine and booked us. Needless to say the travel agent was wrong and became very useless very fast. She would have “family emergencies” every time I needed to get ahold of her or say she was going to call me back and never call me back. She was very rude to me and I was so upset as all this meant we had lost $400! I said enough is enough I’m looking elsewhere and I’m done with you. (FYI do not work with Expedia Cruise Ship Centers – they are so rude and unprofessional, even her manager was incredibly rude to me). So I had gone to the bridal expos/fairs in Calgary and met a few destination wedding travel agents during my whole fiasco and so I decided to call them all and see what their processes were and get more quotes again (this was probably our 4th or 5th round of quotes). I found one travel agent who answered all my questions so fast and got me quotes even faster! She was great! I decided to book with her and put my mind at rest! She is with Tier One Travel and I’d recommend her to any Calgary brides. The resort: We decided to go with the Grand Sirenis Mayan Beach in the Mayan Riviera, Mexico! The resort looks amazing and fun with so much to do and see. Not going to lie, we only got a quote for this resort because my Fiancé found @@calgarybride2015 's review and we were sold! I think my favorite part is that we can book a private location for the wedding and the reception. My sister’s wedding was on the beach and she had a fat man in speedo’s watching her wedding and getting in the photos. I was not keen on having this. We are going to do the free wedding (at this point I just need one more double room booked for 7 days and we will get this package). We are going to upgrade to the private beach and palapa and then pick and choose all of our extras (flowers, ribbons, music, food, etc.). This option seemed like the best bang for our buck! Save the date: I’m a graphic designer and a few years ago I used to make wedding invitations for a living. This was probably the part of our wedding I’ve been most excited for! My favorite color is a teal color (teal, turquoise, aqua), so I knew what my color scheme would be (since my FI hated the idea of pink). I loved the idea of going with a beach theme since it will be on the beach after all. I ended up mainly going with a starfish theme! Super cute! My original idea for the save the dates was literally to put the date down and the resort name. But my TA informed me I only had 3 months to get as many guests as I could signed up for our group rate. Plan: changed. I decided to turn my 1 luggage tag save the dates into 2 luggage tags. I designed them up. Printed them off at staples (and they also did a decent job cutting them). Tied them with ribbon, addressed all our envelopes and sent them off. Oh! Almost forgot, I also made cute little starfish return address labels. I think that’s it for today. Apparently this planning thread business takes a lot of work haha. I will update soon on engagement photos, bridesmaids dresses, booking process, wedding invitations, wedding website, etc.

Hey, ladies! Thought I'd start a post specifically for brides getting married in PV in 2016. Looking for vendor ideas and reviews - specifically for DJs/bands. My date is April 22 and I'm working with Kelley Kahrhoff for coordination. I have ceremony and reception venues booked -- Our Lady of Guadalupe for the ceremony and Villa Celeste for the reception. I'm also in the process of booking Vista Grille for the rehearsal dinner. I still need music, photographer, florist, etc. Anyone else getting married in PV in 2016?? Who are you working with so far?? Any good ideas you've come across for welcome parties?? Thanks!!

I LOVE reading planning threads for many reasons. Here are a few: They give me ideas I would have never thought of The provide answers to questions I hadn’t even thought of asking but definitely needed to know They make me feel like I am apart of someone’s wedding even though I haven’t had to do any of the hard work The give brides-to-be a rough guideline as to when certain things need to be started/completed They speak to issues brides-to-be run into and what to expect They let you know that how you are feeling or the situations or debacles you are running into are completely normal After being inspired by many other brides-to-be on this site, I have decided to start putting my planning into words. I am hoping by doing this it will motivate me to get the ball rolling again and iron out some of the BIG (and small) items I have been putting off. I hope you enjoy reading a little bit about Michael and I. I’m excited for you all to be reading along as we plan the wedding of our dreams. xo Ashley

I am soooooo upset right now! I received a call from my wedding planner at Sandals Montego Bay two days ago advising me that Sandals no longer allow copy written music on my wedding video! Meaning, I can walk down the isle to "our song" but the video will not have ANY of our actual chosen music!! How can they do this? They provided me with a list of unknown songs and composers that sound like "karaoke" at best! OMG!!! This is horrible. My FI states we can just bring the DVD home and have it modified with our music. However, thats additional costs for us! Has anyone else encountered this problem? I also advised her there is no way I will agree to that and asked for a manager to call me back. I haven't received a response as of yet. What are your thoughts?

Menu and Food?

I was wondering if anyone who had a civil/legal ceremony in the Dominican Republic provide details of the actual ceremony. We are concerned the ceremony will lack romance. Can we say our own vows as part of the ceremony and can we include a sand ceremony? Does the judge have a set transcript that he reads off? Thank You in advance!!!!

My name is Charlotte and I'm planning to marry abroad in 2017. However, I haven't decided in what country I want to marry in yet, I'm thinking maybe South America or Europe. I'm currently in the process of researching venues but I'm unsure what type of search words I should use when browsing venues. Any suggestions? Can anyone tell me their experience on how they found their venue abroad? How much time did you spend looking? I just want to find the perfect venue for my day. All help much appreciated:)

I have been working with a travel agent through sell off vacations to find the best resort for ours and our guests budgets. We had finally decided on one that we loved, the price was right ($1550 per adult, $990 for a child over 2, with taxes included) and the wedding package has what we're looking for. I asked the travel agent to find out about group rates from westjet which is the airline this deal was through. She messaged me back saying the group rate is $1775 per adult, $1300 for child over 2 plus taxes) then if you get 15 rooms you get one free flight/hotel. Is this normal? For some reason I was under the impression that if you booked as a group it might be a bit cheaper. Why would my guests want to pay $200 more then they could? And I wouldn't expect them to when they are already paying to come to my wedding. I'm feeling flustered because of this and wondering if this is the norm or should I be inquiring with a different travel agent? Sorry for the rant! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I am getting married at Moon Palace on Aug 2016. If you are thinking to pick this resort for your big day, please please, think twice. They do charge you external vendor fees PER SERVICE, even if you have one supplier who is bringing you the decoration, entretaiment, sweet table, etc. they do want to charge you 800 dollars PER SERVICE. For instance, if you have live music and a DJ, they want 800 dollars for DJ AND plus 800 dollars penalty for the live music you are bringing. If you are bringing sweet table and all yor flowers (same supplier) they will charge you 800 dollars for sweet table and 800 dollars for flowers. Their vendors prices are 3 times more expensive than external vendors charge. Oh and I forget, they will also include fees for extra hours per person per hour, plus, they will also charge you penalties for using the electricity. Therw are lots of options for other resorts, beautiful and with ONE penalty that ranges between 300 and 500 dollars once. NO 4 or 5 penalties. This is extremelly stressful for me giving the fact that i am 1 month for my big day They want to name service to everything just to charge you penalties. A service is wedding coordination that I have paid to a supplier to take care of my wedding, that is a service fir me. There should be ONE penalty. I understand that there is a penalty involved but 800 dollars per single thing you bring, it is a robbery. At this point I am affrais that they will charge 800 if you bring candles because is the "candle service" . Please let me know for any further info you need. They are NOT clear in the contract about their definition of "service" plus they write "service/supplier" and once your party is booked they will tell you that you have to pay 4 or 5 or 6 penalties, meaning 800x4 or 5. I am sooo sad and upset that they really want to get as much money as possible from Brides.

2 Months Out - Let The Frustrations Out!
kjeanconte posted a blog entry in Moon Palace Memorial Day Wedding
Hi everyone: So I've been planning in a vacuum and with my wedding a little more than two months away and the small things needing attention, I'm starting to feel the little bit of panic building. 80 GUESTS and counting! I had a destination wedding to reduce my numbers. Didn't work too well huh? I'm having the wedding at Moon Palace Cancun and so far I don't have any major complaints. My offsite coordinator Lizet has been an absolute doll! :DI had heard that people wouldn't hear from their coordinator until much later but Lizet was in contact with me with less than a month after we had the date confirmed. I know I can be an absolute pain with all the emails but she has dutifully answered them in a relatively quick manner (1-3 days average). We have the ceremony at the Bugambilias gazebo, with the Tuscan terrace for the cocktails and we move inside for the reception. I have the majority of my vendors lined up: Décor: Gama Flowers: Hotel Cake: Hotel Photography: Friend of future hubby is coming down as a guest to do our lovely pics Videography: AmorAmor Weddings (outside vendor - their work looks absolutely amazing! Music: PSAV (though I also have DiscoMovil on contract because of the great reviews that I have read. But when I told PSAV the price I was getting including the vendor fee was cheaper than what they had, they not only matched it but gave me a $200 discount for an incentive. The only reason I still have DiscoMovil is because I am concerned about the music. I work in the music industry hence why I'm being so picky). In the air Makeup: I am an Black bride so I am very concerned about what my hair and makeup will look like. Especially since I am a natural hair bride. I'm on the fence about working with MVP hair and beauty. ANY HELP IN WITH THIS? What I'm not particular happy about: Travel agent: L and S Vacations. Just venting here. We met Lindsay at a wedding expo here in NYC. And in the beginning it worked well with choosing our hotel and putting down our deposits. She also fits the bill on our save the dates and send them out. But here's where the trouble started. We decided to do magnets for our save the date. At least 20% of our guests never received them. Could it have been that the magnets got stuck somewhere? Shouldn't there have additional paper inside of the envelope to make that it didn't happen? I don't know because no return address were ever put on the envelopes. So if it was a matter of a wrong address, we didn't know. Which meant that I had purchase additional save the dates and send them out. All of mine made it to the intended person. *shrugs* When the time came for the guests to begin to make the travel arrangements, it felt like I didn't have a travel agent. Because however many times you called, the phone was never picked up. NEVER. I had multitudes of guests complaining that they couldn't get through to make their room reservations. And of course it was the last few days to book and it was a panic. I was having mini heart attacks for days, trying to make sure the MVPs were getting what they needed, diverting them to emails to contact Lindsay. And to make matters worse, she was out of the country and took on more work than she could have handled (5-6 other weddings that had the SAME deadline that we had). The month of October was exhausting - from people complaining about prices, to rooms to never-ending questions that should have been answered by L and S Vacations. Then it became an issue about changing names on the rooms. Even though each invoice/contract stated that we had 91 prior to the wedding make changes, she shot them down saying it wasn't possible to change; that if they needed a room they would have to book an entirely new room without the savings we had before. I'm a lawyer so I went to town on it and got her to read her own contract. Finally she apologized and made the changes. If I knew what I know now, I would have just worked with the hotel myself. They have been very attentive and I really don't need L and S Vacations for anything else. The only upside was the payment plan that guest could do but...sigh. I wonder if it was worth a lot of aggravations. Sigh. Anyway I'm sure I'll be back to lament about my peacock theme, my 14 member wedding party and the drama to come. Stay strong ladies,- 1 comment

My fiance asked me to marry him on his birthday, January 15, 2016. Hands down, the best surprise I have ever experienced. We have been together for about 4 1/2 year (we have a 3 year old son) and have always talked about having a beach wedding. Almost immediately after he slipped the ring on my finger, I started googling destination weddings. I have always wanted to visit Jamaica, so what would be better than making my first visit, MY WEDDING? I googled best places to get married in Jamaica and found an article that detailed about 12 resorts. Iberstar Rose Hall Suites was #7 on that list but after visiting a dozen websites, I kept going back to the Iberostar wesite. We chose the Suites because they are kid friendly and it is very important to us that our son be apart of our day and that he can also have some fun while we are there since we won't have a summer vacation in preparation for the wedding. We are currently working our travel agent to get everyone who has RSVP's booked. I think we are up to about 20 guests right now which is such an amazing thing to me. I am honored that our friends and family are willing to use their time and resources to enjoy our day with us. We have sent electronic save-the-dates using greenvelope.com. They were a big hit, easy to design, and cost effective. I will be attaching some screenshots of them. This process is time consuming but I am enjoying planning!

Hello fellow brides! I am hoping to book a nice excursion for all of our guests the night before the wedding. Kind of like a welcome/thank you for traveling so far. We were planning on doing a sunset cruise with hosted apps and drinks. Has anyone else looked into this? We are having more guests than I originally planned so I'm struggling to find a boat that can fit around 70 people! Or has anyone planned another type of excursion for their guests? I'm totally open to other ideas! But I'm straying away from a rehearsal dinner because we are hosting a farewell brunch on the last day. Thank you!

Hey ladies (and gents ????) I thought that I would start a new thread because it seems as if the other older ones keep trying to get revied with little success. I am not offically a HRPC bride, however it is strongly my #1 favorite!!!! I'm trying to decide when to go to get the best rate... I'm thinking near the end of May but am pretty much open! What about you ladies? What made you decide to choose HRPC or past ladies how did everything go?

Hi everyone! I'm really excited to join this community! I'm getting married Dec 21, 2016 at the Now Sapphire in Mexico. I'm having a small wedding of approximately 20 people and just getting started on the wedding planing journey. I've done a good amount of reading and searching on this site which is amazing. There's just so many things that I'm trying to research that I'm finding it overwhelming. Here's some of the things I'm trying to figure out: 1) As part of our wedding package, we get our choice of saxophone or guitarist for the ceremony. Has anyone done this? I can't imagine either as I walk down the aisle. I could always upgrade to getting a harpist. 2) Does anyone have a good recommendation for make-up artists who are good with Asian brides? I get hair/make-up with my package at the Resort spa, but I sweat like a crazy person in the heat so I'm thinking I want to get airbrush make-up. I'm not much of a make-up person, but I want to look put together for my big day! 3) Since we're having such a small wedding, not sure if we want to do a traditional dance floor with dancing/music. We thought about hiring someone to play music while we sit at the tables, but not sure if that would take away from the special-ness of the occasion. Has anyone done something like this? Or basically not done the dancing portion of the evening? Not sure if I'd end up regretting it. Thanks for any help!

Good morning Brides We are planning our wedding for May 2016 in Cayo Coco, Cuba. I have a meeting set up next week with a photographer at home (Calgary, AB) who is willing to come with us..but as you can imagine it is quite costly. Has anyone had any experience with a local photographer in Cuba that they would recommend? Thanks! Kirsteen

Written by Sakurako Yakushiji the COO and Master Florist & Decor Expert of LATIN ASIA Imagine yourself choosing your decoration, your bouquet, your invitations, flowers for the centerpieces (among other things), and you close your eyes. How do you see your wedding? What do you envision? Nothing!?! Perhaps it's because you haven't yet defined the right theme colors that will give you your dream wedding -- a complete vision of knowing what everything will look like. A vision that you will only get by choosing the right color and vibe to your wedding. I personally think that choosing your color palette is the next thing to do, right after you set the wedding date. The next big step that will define your wedding is choosing the right colors for your celebration because it will help you create the perfect wedding. Choosing the right color for your wedding gives you the chance to be creative and to set free the inner artist that we all have inside us and with each year's new color trends there is so much to play with. Once you pick your colors, you'll quickly discover that been creative is just the beginning of this exciting journey called wedding planning. Here are some of this year's most popular color trends -- a variety of daring and fun colors that will let you add your personal touch and uniqueness to your own wedding celebration. Let the fun begin! SPRING WEDDING COLOR TRENDS Natural Organic (Tropic, classic gray, Rain & Ivory) Now that the organic theme weddings are in, here are the perfect palette colors that will let you play and combine with the natural and elegant look. Brides like to choose these tones especially when it comes to picking their bouquet and/or centerpieces. So think in orchids, baby's breath, dustin miller, and succulents. Sunny Love (Tangerine, Pumpkin, Butter & Sage) I really think this palette was created with destination weddings in mind! If you are looking for fun colors that will allow you to get the best of your destination wedding by honoring the sun and still convey the touch of an organic wedding, look no more, this color combo is just for you! New Romance (Classic Blue, Dusk, Carnation & Silver) This color palette will allow you to integrate colors that will be suitable for him and still keep the feminine touch with the help of the blush tone. It brings the best of both worlds together by creating an elegant and romantic ambience. WINTER WEDDING COLOR TRENDS Glamour (Gold, Champagne, White & Custom Tan) With this combination, I can envision a wedding full of glamour and different decor options that will allow your wedding be a huge success even with minimum details. From elegant bridesmaid dresses to incredible reception tables, these colors will help create a glamorous environment. Daring (Black, Strawberry, White & Sage) Now these are very daring colors that will truly create a very passionate and unique vibe. Don't get confused with this palette thinking you might create a dark wedding, rather, think of it as very romantic and sexy colors that will go great with a final touch of a red lipstick! Blossom (Lavender, White, Sugar & Slate) This romantic combination will allow you to mix vintage with romanticism with a very rustic look and vibe. Again it is a palette that can be equally appreciated by the groom and the bride. Let your imagination fly!
