  1. Hi ladies!! I've been on the forums for a while and I actually have another tread here introducing myself but I thought I'd share our great news! My fiance and I have been globe trotting for over two years desperately trying to find a location that is unique, beautiful, and affordable and we have FINALLY found it!! Drum roll please... We're getting married on Roatan Island in Honduras!! We haven't set the date yet but we have been working with an event planner named Camilla from Roatan Events who has extremely responsive and helpful. She's actually found us a venue that offers all-inclusive and has an adjacent beach club that would be completely private for our reception and if everyone ends up booking the all-inclusive option then we can get the food for our reception and rehearsal dinner for free and they'll even close down the restaurant on the night of our rehearsal dinner at no extra charge, how awesome is that!! Even if we have to end up paying for the food, the quote that she sent us still comes out several thousand dollars under budget and it includes absolutely everything. Plus Roatan is not your run of the mill wedding location, it offers something for everyone, and it's absolutely beautiful! We're so happy and excited!!!
  2. Hi Billandstina!! Congrats on your engagement! I have found a website where you can buy the same beautiful Moroccan lanterns for a very reasonable price! You can find them here. Kelsey
  3. Thank you so much for your well wishes!! We are looking at possibly Oct 2015 because everything is cheaper four guests and St. Lucia and Honduras rarely see hurricanes anyway. When we first started looking we were dead set on the Dominican Republic but it just never really felt right because Punta Cana is highly commercialized and so many people get married there. My family asked us to not consider Mexico and Jamaica doesn't really have the feel we're looking for so we started looking at the other islands and everything was either too expensive or to difficult to get to until we started researching St. Lucia. When we first started looking at photos we just completely in love with the Pitons in Soufriere and we've been speaking with a wedding planner who's been extremely helpful but it is a tad bit expensive because we'd have to import our flowers but the unspoiled beauty was enough for us but then we came across Roatan Island, Honduras which is just as beautiful. It's a little more touristy then we'd like but we're still able to have the privacy that we're looking for and I honestly think people would laugh if I told them how affordable it is because they probably wouldn't believe me. Plus, both St. Lucia and Honduras are not the typical destination wedding locations and it would give our family a chance at a dream vacation that they probably wouldn't have otherwise but I look forward to following your wedding planning process and congrats to all you ladies on you engagement. It may be a long way off but good things come to those who wait
  4. Congrats on your engagement!! My fiance and I have been engaged for two years and we're also looking at 2015! I just turned 21 so I definitely know how you feel. It's either St. Lucia or Honduras at this point but we have plenty of time to figure it out. Happy Planning!!
  5. My fiancé and I are caught between "These Foolish Things" by Michael Buble and "When You Got a Good Thing" by Lady Antebellum for our first dance but we'll probably end up dancing to both.
  6. I really want to get my dad a two part picture frame that says at the top "Daddy's Girl" and has two photos: one that has a picture of me as a little girl with the date and the other on my wedding day with our date.
  7. My family is from the South and they are very traditional when it comes to weddings, especially mine. They expect me to get married in the family chuch I grew up in but that doesn't work because FI and I are of two separate faiths and we want a beach wedding so we just figured we'd make a DW. My family lives four states away so they'd have to travel either way so I don't get what the big deal is. If it were up to me, we'd just elope and be done with it instead of having to deal with all this stress and criticism from people who probably won't even come anyway.
  8. I absolutely LOVE these pictures, you both looked amazing!! Congratulations on your wedding and thanks for sharing
  9. Hi Bride13! Congratulations on your engagement! My fiancé and I are looking for something very similar and there are a ton of boutique hotels in Tulum, MX that are reasonably priced, my favorite being Be Tulum Hotel. It only has 20 rooms and it lies on a very secluded stretch of beach that is absolutely beautiful. The hotel is very modern and unique from anything else I've seen as well as the wedding coordinator is very responsive and accommodating. Other ones I'd recommend are Playa Azul and Le Zebra, happy planning!
  10. Hi MrsV2013, Congratulations on your engagement and rest assured that you're in the right place! This site is a treasure chest of information and everyone here is more than willing to help with any questions you may have. I totally think that a budget of 3000 for just you and your fiancé is completely doable, I've been researched wedding venues throughout the Caribbean for the past year and a half and I've found that Mexico and the Dominican Republic are usually the cheapest locations but most resorts have elopement packages that include photography for next to nothing, it really just depends on your style and preference. Personally my fiancé and I tend to shy away from the mega all inclusive resorts but some of those resorts offer free basic wedding packages so that may be something good for you and your fiancé to check into. I have a ton of information from so many resorts and venues that its crazy so if you need any help at all then please don't hesitate to ask. Happy planning!
  11. My fiancé and I aren't doing traditional favors. We've decided to make a charitable donation to the CHDI Foundation because my future brother-in-law has Huntington's Disease and doesn't have that much longer to live.
  12. R614, You seriously just made my night, I've been trying for weeks to get a hold of them and I'd really appreciate if you could send me the pricing info! My email is [email protected], thank you so much!!
  13. Hi ladies!! My fiance and I have been engaged for over two years and we're planning a destination wedding for 2015 somewhere in the Caribbean. I've been planning this wedding for well over a year and a half now and I have a ton of information from so many different venues that it's insane but we haven't put a deposit down anywhere as of yet. I've looked at Costa Rica, Belize, the Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Turks & Caicos, St. Thomas, St. John, Jamaica, Panama, Antigua, Anguilla, Puerto Rico, and St. Lucia but as of now our first pick is St. Lucia, followed by St. Thomas, the Bahamas, Anguilla, and lastly the Dominican Republic. Looking at St. Lucia my fiance and I just fell in love with the Pitons and the town of Soufriere but the prices for accommodations are through the roof so we'll see how that plays out. I've noticed that a lot of brides choose to get married in Mexico and even though I've looked into a little bit, it's really just not the scene for us. All-inclusive resorts are fine for accommodations but we're looking for something a little more unique as far as a wedding venue. Our theme for our wedding is more or less a tropical beach wedding and having our ceremony in a place that's private, breathtaking, and naturally beautiful is extremely important to us, that's why we love St. Lucia! The island is filled with beautiful beaches, waterfalls, rainforests, and the southern part of the island is completely unspoiled, there's never a lot of tourists and it just fits with everything we're looking for. Couldn't you imagine having this as the backdrop for your wedding ceremony?! You just don't get better than this! Sorry for my ranting haha but I look forward to sharing ideas with everyone and happy planning to you all
  14. My fiancé and I really want to have a bridal shower but we're not really sure how that's going to work since our families live in different areas of the world and it's just us and his parents here in Miami, that's the biggest reason we've decided on a destination wedding. I'd love for us to be able to have two separate showers, one with his family and one with mine, since they're mostly congregated in Virginia and Puerto Rico but the two trips are just not in our budget and it would be selfish to ask everyone to fly to Miami and then to our wedding location, most people don't have that kind of money so I guess if they want to buy us something then they'll have to mail it :/
  15. Our guest list started at over 250 but we were able to get it down to 160 and that's cutting everyone but our nearest and dearest out. We haven't decided on a location yet but we really want to hold it in Puerto Rico, the only downfall of that is that my fiance was born in San Juan, PR and that's where ALL of his family lives so if we do decide to have it there then our guestlist will top 250 and we definitely cannot afford that many guests. Realistically I'd like to have around 50-75 people join us wherever we decide to hold it because we'll be able to afford all of the elements of our wedding that really matter to us without going over budget but we're looking at at least 80 no matter where we go.
  16. Hi ladies!! My fiance and I have been engaged for two years, we live in South Florida, and we've literally been all over the Caribbean looking for a great wedding venue. We're anticipating around 100 guests and we will have children so the resort needs to be family-friendly as well as possibly all inclusive. We'd much rather have our wedding outside of the resort but if that doesn't end up being the case then the resort must be flexible with their packages, allow outside vendors, host one wedding a day, and allow us to have an indoor private reception. Any suggestions you have would benefit us greatly, thank you so much!! Kelsey
  17. Hi ladies!! My fiance and I have been globe trotting for months trying to figure out what's the best location for our wedding and we keep coming back to St. Lucia. I really love Soufriere, I think the Pitons are so beautiful and the Jalousie Plantation is absolutely perfect for our wedding. We're expecting around 50 guests and accommodations at the resort are way to expensive so I'll have to find another option but I'm scared that the cost of having the entire wedding there would exceed our budget so I'm looking into just having the ceremony there and I'm working on reception venues. For anyone that's getting married at the resort could you give me a rundown of pricing, I contacted the resort but nobody's gotten back to me yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated and if anyone could recommend a reception venue not to far from the resort then that'd be great as well. Thanks!!
  18. I am a sophomore in college currently pursuing my PhD in International Relations and Political Science so that one day I can take my foreign service exam and work for the State Dept otherwise I want to work for the Pentagon for Counterterrorism but I really want to Secretary of State someday. I'm sadly unemployed but my fiancé works for the Ritz-Carlton as a reservations consultant so that means discounted rates for our honeymoon at the Ritz in San Juan
  19. I think the biggest stress for my fiance and I has been trying to set a date. I'm currently a sophomore in college and unemployed and my fiance works in hospitality so he doesn't make all that much money and we're paying for the entire wedding ourselves. We've been engaged for two years and we're set on a destination wedding because all of his family lives in Puerto Rico and mine four states away so everyone has to fly anyway and it's WAY to expensive to get married in Miami, trust me we've tried. We have everything picked out except for the venue because we're really not sure what we'll be able to afford and I hate that my family is pressuring us to set a date when they know we don't have any money put back yet and they're not offering to help us at all. Plus we find venues that we fall completely in love with but have to live with the fact that we may never be able to afford it.
  20. For everyone who is interested in the scrollwork lanterns, they are actually called Moroccan lanterns and they come in various styles, colors, and sizes. There are several wholesale websites on the internet that sell these lovely lanterns and you can buy them in bulk for a reasonable price. If anyone has any questions then you can email me at [email protected]
  21. My fiance and I are really not all that crazy about cakes with flowers on them but we LOVE this cake and will probably end up having something like it
