  1. Hi Jacki - I'm also changing things up by having different kinds of music. My guests will be at MDV for 3 nights. We're hosting a "welcome dinner and cocktails" on Thursday at one of the larger villas where we'll have a mento band play, Friday night for the rehearsal we're having a dinner on the beach with a live reggae band and Saturday night for the wedding we're laying down a dance floor on the sand, creating a lounge area on the beach and having a DJ. If your guests are staying in the MDC villas, maybe you could ask them if they'd allow you to host a dinner in the villa? Just like Robin said, your wedding day will stand out and be fantastic no matter what!
  2. Hi Robin - You might want to try replacing some flowers in the bouquets with a cheaper option or telling Rosemarie what you like but asking for a scaled back version?? Just a thought. Good luck! Lara
  3. Hi Robin - Sorry, but Floral Fantasies is not really like any florist I've been to. There are some flowers in buckets in the front when you first come in, a work table on the left wall and a fridge where they keep some flowers, some shelving on the right where they have some vases and that's about it. They do have some selection of flowers, but I would NOT suggest going in the week of (or right before) your wedding and trying to pull together some arrangements. You probably could put together a bouquet, but I don't know if they'd have the variety of things you'd want to choose from. It's a very small operation on the upper level of a strip mall. You should probably look at some arrangements you'd like and send Rosemarie the pictures. They're certainly capable, but I don't know if they'd have enough in stock on short notice.
  4. Do a googel search for "Wedding decor lanterns" and you'll find plenty. Here are some in the meantime. They're all from past weddings at my venue, Moon Dance Villas: Hope this helps!!
  5. Hi Kel - These don't have a blue bottom, but they do have blue Swarovski crystals spell out 'I Do' on the bottom of the left foot and a crystal heart on the bottom of the right. I bought them from Nordstrom, but decided to return them because they were a little big (and I'm a size 4!) and because I'm walking down a sand aisle and I couldn't justify the price to have them just for pictures. I did LOVE them though. Kind of hard to see in the picture. http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/stuart-weitzman-i-do-swoon-pump/3113692?origin=category&resultback=5681
  6. OK - here's the scoop with the sparklers. I called the TSA this afternoon and, sadly, sparklers are considered "Fireworks" which, as downtownlagirl pointed out, are prohibited. I tried to make the argument that the regulations prohibit "Fireworks" and that sparklers different and are not expressly prohibited, but they didn't buy it. You can not bring sparklers or fireworks onto commercial aircraft as checked or carry-on items. I did not ask about "cold" fireworks. Also, I checked out http://www.sparklersonline.com/common_questions/ and they do not ship outside the continental US. I'm going to look into other sparkler options...
  7. Hey Star18 - I think I'd have to agree with your fiance on this. If there's someone with a bit of a belly, a vest will probably accentuate it. More material means more bulk. My fiance's bro is heavier than he is and that was, in part, why I opted to leave him vest-less. But that's just this girl's opinion and I'm sure they'll look great no matter what you decide!
  8. That's a great deal for CK! The only drawback about the JCrew suits is that they're only available on the website or from the catalog. I even called the JCrew bridal store, but no luck. Happy shopping!!
  9. I'm getting these "faded black" JCrew suits for my FI and his bro who will be his best man. Groom will be in a 3-piece and best man in 2.
  10. Lol - Yes! We're having our AHR at Lombardi's on the Sound on the north shore of Long Island and they have 2 event rooms. We've booked one for the AHR and the second is still open. But because they only have 1 "wedding" at a time, and what we are having is not an actual wedding, they've told me that I can not wear a bridal gown. Of course that might change if they don't end up booking a wedding in the second room, but for now, no gown at the AHR for me!
  11. Pretty sure the Pronovias in NYC on 52nd between 5th & Madison is the Flagship here in the US. Beautiful dresses ladies!
  12. I've been told that the Front Page Band is good. I just got some wma files of their performance from my wedding coordinator, but the FI and I both have Macs. Hummmm... I can forward you the email if you'd like. Just shoot me an email: [email protected].
  13. You could totally rock a turquoise necklace or earrings or something that has multiple strands:
  14. Haven't gotten married yet, but plan to call the airline (Air Jamaica) and will definitely check with the TSA before I try to get on a plane with them!
  15. What about the poor man's fireworks...Sparklers?? It's a safer bet. If interested: http://www.sparklersonline.com/
  16. I'm pretty sure I'm going with the 3 hour package. If he starts right before the ceremony and gets the aisle, ceremony, cocktails, toasts and some dinner/dancing, I think I'll be set. I'm having the photog on hand ALL day though.
  17. I'm not wearing my dress again only because the venue for my AHR forbid me to They have 2 banquet room, but only have 1 bride a day. So while we're currently the only event on our day, you never know, which resulted in a contractual provision forbidding me from wearing a wedding gown!!! Looks like it'll be cocktail attire for moi. But I say- wear what you want!!
  18. Hey Jacki - I spoke with Paula from Sungold and she tole me that the 2 videographers she works with most often are Stacey Clarke and Roxroy Gough. Websites are: http://www.staceyclarkephotography.com/ http://www.rgweddings.com/ (site is currently under construction from the looks of it)
  19. Hey there - One of my friends is a surgeon and recommends a new silicone product called Kelo-cote. It goes on clear and only has to be used 2x a day. It may be a little more expensive than Mederma, but I've been told it works even better. Here's the info: https://www.kelo-cote.com/ USA: 1-800-240-8227 Canada: 1-800-287-7686. International: 1-678-684-1426
  20. GURRRR! That's annoying! Sorry. Just PM'd you.
  21. Hey Lisa - Rockhouse is pretty close or you might consider having your other guests stay at the villas (I guess depending on price ranges) because there is a shuttle that goes back & forth between the 2 properties. Also, make sure - if you haven't already- that MDC/Miriam in Chicago knows that you are looking for extra rooms so that in the event they become available between now and then, you are the first person they contact! You never know - someone just might have to back out of a preplanned vacation. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
  22. Hi Girls - Have any of you looked into Amsale? She's got a whole collection of little white dresses: http://www.amsale.com/lwd/index.shtml Here are some pics: I absolutely fell in love with this dress, but it didn't feel quite "bridal" enough for me: http://www.oscardelarenta.com/?folderId=/collections/bridal/spring2011#lookId=5&
  23. Agree with Sascolo. Nordstrom.com ROCKS! Not sure what size you're looking for, but I'm a women's 4 and even I can find plenty of styles I like. I bought these Stuart Weitzman wedges:
  24. Endless.com has a lot of Unisa sandals. I'd try contacting Unisa directly. I was looking for my shoes and couldn't find them (in my size - which is a ladies 4) anywhere, so I contacted the manufacturer who emailed me back and told me where to find them. It doesn't hurt to try!
