  1. Just got pictures of my dress! Anyone have any suggestions on things I should ask to be tweaked before its sent out? I've already noticed that the lace peeking over the top of the neckline is uneven, so I'm going to ask for that to be trimmed down to not peek over at all. I've also asked for the back of the dress to be a corset style, so will be asking to see a picture of that as well. Overall, the color of the beading is much more gold than I would have liked, but its not a big deal... dress turned out great! 2. This looks great! How did you get the cardstock to lie so flat after printing? Mine is slightly curled, so my invites just will not stay shut on their own lol... its very annoying!
  3. I wonder if wedding guests at the resort are counted in that 70%? Hypothetically, if you have 100 guests and that pushes the resort capacity over 70%, I dont think that should count.
  4. Just thought I'd share... there are some really cute tote bags (and beachy hats!) on sale at Haute Look right now. Look for the Toss Designs sale when you log in. If you need an invitation code: http://www.hautelook.com/invite/RR078
  5. our wedding is Feb 19 and we haven't even sent out our invitations yet lol... printing them as we speak if its just pre-wedding info, I think you have time. Too early and people may put it aside and forget about it by the time they need it.
  6. Not that I'm glad you ladies are having crazy dreams too lol, but I'm glad to know its not just me! The first messed up dream I had a few weeks ago involved getting to the resort and realizing we forgot to put together OOT bags and info about the week for the guests. The second dream, a couple days ago, involved me not even looking at my dress until I put it on (yeah, how realistic is that lol) and then realizing it was NAVY BLUE! Ahhh... I didn't know it was so possible to have a panic attack in a dream lol. Good call on no wedding work 3 - 4 hours before bed... maybe we should all try that!
  7. I just booked DJ Doremixx a couple months ago for our wedding in February. He was very responsive whenever I sent any emails... even to the point that if I hadn't responded with something I needed to, he would contact me again. My point is... as far as I've dealt with him up to know he's been good... it could be that something unexpected has come up with him in the last little bit. Which email address are you using?
  8. Ahh that didn't paste properly... try this instead: http://www.enviius.com/invite/rr0223
  9. Just thought I'd share this with those of you still looking for your dress! Some beautiful gowns available through Enviius for $299. Look for the "DaVinci and Impression Bridal Gown Blowout" once you log in. If you're not already a member and need an invitation code, use this: http://www.enviius.com/invite/rr0223
  10. I just noticed this post! That's so frustrating, but props to you for finding the positives in this whole situation! I'm sure your new venue will be fantastic No clue what we are doing for table setups yet. The resort is providing white tablecloths and chair covers, and I'm still thinking of buying chair sashes and table overlays in our wedding colors... but I dont know if that puts too much fussiness into what was supposed to be a simple beach wedding. I do know that I dont want white tables and chairs though, thats just blah. And centerpieces are still a little bit of a struggle to figure out. The ones the resort has are pretty ugly and overpriced. I'd love to take things from here, but anything I like involves large pieces of glass and I'm SO worried I'm going to end up breaking it all on the way there! Some bad news happened to me a few weeks ago and I was going to come on here and rant then, but I was so angry I decided to calm down first. Sunquest decided to cancel the flight my group was flying on, and the only option was to leave four days earlier. It really wasn't a huge deal, but I have sent out my save the dates, and now our wedding date has to be changed, because we were leaving on April 11th and the wedding was on the 14th, but now we have to leave on the 8th, and there is no way I am having my wedding the day before we leave. The only other night available to have the wedding is on the 13th, which I am slightly superstitious about. I just hate the fact that all my STD's went out with the wrong wedding date. Makes me furious. Apparently after all of this, I asked my TA if there was any chance things could get changed again, and she said YES...not very likely, but still, how can they expect us to pay all these deposits and then just switch our flights. I am actually excited though, and turned this negative into a positive buy switching my wedding venue completely. We are now getting married April 13th at the Jellyfish restaurant in Punta Cana, and I am soooooo excited about it. I get to plan everything, and Mayte (the coordinator at the restaurant) said she will decorate however I want. I like the idea that we are going to be taking our guests away from the resort for the night and having a more intimate wedding offsite. I hope it all works out! Also, does anyone have ideas on their table setups? I want a really contemporary feel. My colours are lilac, slate gray and green. I do want white table clothes and lots of candles, with a few hints of my colours. Let me know what you guys are doing. Natalie
  11. I dont know how you ladies can bear this waiting for a dress to arrive... I finally caved and ordered a dress 10 days ago (yep, I'm counting lol) and I am going crazy with anticipation over here!! It probably wont be shipped out until Monday, but I want it NOW!
  12. That Palace Resorts credit does sound pretty good... I was in love with Moon Palace but had to give up on it because the pricing was much higher than my guests were willing to pay. You may want to check some of the threads in this forum for the Palace Resorts though... I do remember reading that some people had trouble using the Resort credit for certain things. I dont remember the details, but I know there are some restrictions that people were not aware of. If you're already aware, then great! If not, just make sure you are though
  13. Welcome Amy! Step one: find a travel agent! There are a zillion resorts to choose from, so they can help you narrow it down to what suits your taste, budget and must-haves. From there, you can start looking into the resorts that would work for you and start crossing some of them off the list. Each resorts wedding packages are very different as well. Good luck with the research! There's tons of useful info around this forum, as well as separate threads for several resorts. You might find more detailed info on some of those threads
  14. You're probably gone by now, but have a great wedding!! Can't wait to hear about it when you're back
  15. Ahhh I totally feel your stress! We had a similar situation, but thankfully almost everyone did end up booking by the deadline in the end. There were still a few people who said they would wait to book though -- no idea why! If they couldn't afford it at the time, it would make sense... but they openly told us it wasn't the money and just chose to wait. And now rates are $1000 higher than the group rate we had and they say its too much. Grrr thats why I went through the trouble of getting a group rate! haha sorry to rant... I totally feel what some of you are going through, and it is frustrating. But ditto to what Oryx said, dont let your guests wait too long to book because you never know if rates are going to go up, flights are going to fill up, resort is going to sell out, etc We booked through Sunwing and they also had a similar arrangement where you book 2 seats and they will hold 20 for you, and we get the price-drop protection.
  16. OMG I think I'm going to throw up lol. I'm still soooo unprepared, time to get cracking! skadow - how are you getting your glass vases there?
  17. I had that same fear, and got the same advice you did. We sent out an email before finalizing the group rate letting people know what the cost would be if we did the group rate (gave them a couple days to search on their own and see what a good deal it really was) and let us know if its likely they would book. We got a lot of "yes" responses at that point... even from people who told us they didn't think they could afford higher than a certain amount. Maybe try that with your guests? If a lot of people are willing to pay then that should put your mind at ease. If not, and its important to you that they be there, then you have time to look into other locations. People said the same thing to me... that those who really want to be there will... and my advice is to not think that way or you will set yourself up to be hurt. There are always going to be people who are dying to be there for you but wont be able to because of finances, time off work, health reasons, etc. I personally could never live with the guilt if people put themselves into debt just to attend my wedding. I"m afraid the price is going to be out of the range for most people but I'm pretty sure the place I have selected is the place I want to be married. Others keep telling me to do what is going to make me happy and that the people that really REALLY want to be at your wedding will make it here. How far away is your wedding? You'll generally get the best rates by booking early. If you're more than a year out, I'd suggest keeping track of the price fluctuations over the next few weeks (something I wish I had done!) so that you know what its going to be like for people that aren't able to book early. If its less than a year out, it is probably best to start getting group quotes soon. Rates skyrocketed in my case (by $1000) after the "early booking" period. If you're looking at Riviera Maya area, try Dreams Tulum, Barcelo Maya and Bahia Principe. Our TA suggested that Bahia Principe would have the most favorable pricing for us for what we were looking for. We ended up booking Dreams Tulum on an early booking bonus for approx $1600 per person from various cities in Canada - much further than where you will be flying from!
  18. not stupid at all... this was for a package (flights + accommodations). We ended up booking at approx $1600 per person... and pretty much everyone booked! Guess I was just worrying too much. And I'm glad we booked when we did, the price for the same week is at $2800 right now. Yikes!
  19. looks very close to the inspiration dress! But yes, much too big I know some of the sellers on dhgate say they will make the alterations or remake the dress if the sizing issues are their fault... will Monica Bridal do that for you too?
  20. Got Katelynn's info, thanks! MrsJ2011 - I will send you my info as soon as I'm sure of where I will be in January
  21. not sure how you feel about ordering online, but a lot of ppl on this forum seem to be happy with Studio Suits! We're going to try that for FIs suit... and if that doesn't work out, run scrambling around Calgary to find something else
  22. I'm in the middle of printing our passport invites... then the fun of assembling them lol. Got our OOT bags already, still need to order all the contents for it though. Wedding dress (number 2 haha) has been ordered, so now I have to try to wait patiently. FI's suit, bridesmaid dresses and groomsmen outfits still need to be found. Still need to find wedding favors too. Oh and decorations. Wow, suddenly I feel very far behind in all the planning! We've got a photographer and DJ haha, thats about it :S
