Also, I figured it would be hard to say it was for our wedding with no wedding dress. So...I have 2 jcrew wedding dresses in my closest that I bought for $80. I'm going to take one of those with me so customs believes I'm getting married. Plus, I can leave the dress there and use it for my TTD. Think it will work? I am confused. One person here said the customs $300 limit is only for bringing Mexican items to the US and not bringing US items to mexico. All i know is my dress bought in the USA is way over the $300 mark and i refuse to bring receipts of that. What should I do?

I hate that you have to wait for a cart to take you from the golf place and then they take you to the nizuc lobby, but then if you catch the bus there, you go all the way back to palapas. so we decided to take our chances hoping to find a cart outside of nizuc. Thank god we did because it was so hot, i was melting! Literally. and THANK GOD for the mist and fix, it saved my life. I was picked up with my dad at my room, I was given my bouquet which I was completely happy with. We got on the carriage and drove off towards the gazebo. Lily went ahead on her golf cart. I think this was the hottest day we had the entire time we were there. I was thankful for the little breeze I got from the carriage! We arrived and I walked down the aisle. The minister we had was the cutest thing ever, loved him!! We said our I do's and then we had a champagne toast and then walked down the aisle. I was so glad I paid the $70 and got the rose petals. We got the most beautiful pictures! We went to the beach with David Pena and got some shots on the pier and the beach. I loved my pictures and thought they were a great value. I got an album with many shots, 8X10's 6's and a disc with 755 pictures. Many of my friends have paid 5k to get that and sometimes they don't even get the originals, people have to order prints. The cocktail hour ended up to be a bust. By the time we came back from getting our pics taken, people were sooo hot that they just wanted to get into the AC (thank god I decided to have the reception inside!!). We started walking towards nizuc and asked Lily to see if the reception room would be ready early. We got in @ 6:30. The reception was great. The fillet Mignon was the best meal I had all week. Again, the waiters knew what you were drinking and had backups for you as soon as you finished your last drink, they were amazing! My only complaint was the DJ, yes here we go again. When I started hearing songs not on my playlist I freaked out - knowing what I had read here. My husband had to ask 3 times before he finally got it and for the rest of the night it was all our playlist. The cake was really good, we did chocolate cake with chocolate mousse and strawberries. It looked great too, exactly like the picture I gave them. Love the pictures on this! How many bags of petals did you use for your wedding? We are debating on how many we will be using. did you buy them from the resort or brought them to the wedding?

We couldn’t figure any reason why they had such an issue in this location as the majority of our party only had problems with mosquitos out and about. The air con also flooded the room twice. Unfortunately for my sister who is NOT an early riser the cleaner always insisted on coming really early every day and because they didn’t have a privacy button would knock on the door until they opened up! ROOM 1107: 7/10 Everything as room 4125 except they had to request a hammock several times. The coffee machine was also broken and after asking reception several times they borrowed the one from my dads room as he doesn’t drink coffee. This was also one of the makeshift twin bedrooms so as it was originally set up for 2 people they had to request everything for three, towels, robes, coffee cups, etc. They squeezed the single bed into the gap between the king and the wall which made it mega cosy at bedtime and meant that they could only use one side of the king to get in and out but they really wanted to keep the free space by the sofa and patio doors. I didn’t see this room until the last day but in hindsight if I were them I would probably have asked to see a “downgraded twin room†because I really don’t think there’s such a thing as a bad room at Dreams and I think they would have been much more comfortable in a room designed for three. ROOM:...WE CANT REMEMBER SORRY! 7/10 Everything as room 4125 except it’s on the 1st floor. This was also a makeshift twin bedroom but as they are aunt and nephew they kept the single bed pushed up against the sofa so they could access their balcony but not use the seating area. It also meant that the nephew couldn’t watch TV unless he sat on his aunt’s bed. Again I think they would have been more comfortable in a room designed for twins. This photo was taken kneeling on the makeshift single bed. I suppose in hindsight we could have got Natalia our WC involved but everyone was so tired the night we arrived and none of them made a big issue of it to me throughout the holiday so I assumed they were comfortable. It was only when I saw these rooms on the last day that I felt bad and wished I’d been firmer at reception and demanded they sort out a better alternative. In view of the fact that we all paid a lot of money for the same grade accomodation I think Dreams should have done better. FOOD AND RESTAURANTS: 9/10 We found the food to be plentiful and delicious in all the restaurants at all times of the day. Without doubt the best quality food I’ve ever had at an all inclusive. Our main issues were that the food temperature was often inadequate even in the a la carte restaurants and that there are no real arrangements for vegetarians. We had 2 in our party and thankfully they are not too precious because quite frankly they would have starved! I must stress here that this seemed to be true of everywhere off the resort too and not just Dreams in particular. We all had “dodgy†tummies at various points throughout our stay and my sister had a week off work with food poisoning on her return home but she does have ongoing digestion problems which always flare up when she travels. I don’t want to put all that down to food alone, I think it was a mixture of over indulgence, alcohol, heat, dehydration, nerves etc. The hotel was fully booked for our weeks. As a result as a party of 15 we really struggled with getting tables in restaurants, even though we told them we were happy to be seated at several tables rather than one big table. David and I found the service and whole experience to be much better on our last week when it was just the two of us. A tip for you is that they often over exaggerate the length of time you will have to wait in order to put you off so you will go elsewhere. We were often told our wait may be 1-2hrs so we would put our names down on the wait list, go get a drink and go back in 30 – 40 mins and get a table. Sometimes you are given a pager which recalls you to the restaurant when your table is free. They dont seem to have many of these per restaurant and for whatever reason we were never given them. I personally think you get seated faster the closer you stay to the restaurant. WORLD CAFÉ (BUFFET): 9/10 Casual dress. Great for breakfast and lunch, we didn’t eat here at night. Be aware that on the fiesta / theme evenings the world café is closed and all the food is served outside on the terrace. You must get there early or you will not get a table, the area does not appear to be able to cater for the number of guests wishing to attend these theme nights. We managed to get into the Caribbean night on second week by being there an hour before it was due to start and standing in line. The food was delicious but when the rest of the family went on the Mexican night they were not as impressed with the food. World cafe entrance view with doorway to left annex: World cafe central view: Natalia did mention that it may be possible to use the side annexes in the world cafe as a wedding reception location on fiesta nights when its closed to the public. I think they are really pretty. Left side annex inside World Cafe Right side/bar annex inside world cafe MORE TO COME, PLEASE BE PATIENT.... Wow, thats a beautiful resort! i love all the spanish deco and arched doorways! really gorgeous!

We had 40 guests travel down to Punta Cana for the wedding. Finally I've gotten around to writing a review. Delta Airlines - B When we went to check in, we asked since there was a first class cabin, if it was possible for them to hang up my dress. Jayson, the Delta employee, goes, "well, you're not traveling in first class". To which I replied, I know. And we just left it at that. We figured he wouldn't be on our plane anyway. We boarded, asked the flight attendant about hanging it up, and she said the closet wasn't long enough and to use the overhead bin. It ended up working out fine because my dress bag had its own bin and laid out flat. They did have TVs on the plane and I ended up watching two movies on the ride down. April in Punta Cana - A- We had rain a little bit every day, sometimes up to a half hour. The day of the boat cruise it was fine, but then it poured for 20 mins straight. The rest of the time it was sunny and HOT! Check in - B The computers were down and the resort lost power when we checked in, but, i was too excited to even care! Royal Suites Turquesa - B+ All of our guests booked in RST for the duration of their trip. We were in a honeymoon suite in the old section, 5241. The honeymoon suite was larger, but had no special perks other than the jacuzzi tub was outside instead of in the room. My parents and a few others were in our section (closer to the beach), but the majority was in the new section (farther from the beach, with its own pools across the little road). While it was a pain that everyone wasn't together, the furnishings and the look of the new section, especially those with swim up suites, was much nicer. Everyone liked the rooms. The butler service was spotty - some found it great, others it took a really long time, and same goes with room service. Wedding Coordinator Carolina - B- I give her a B because I think both her and her assistant Kenia have way too much on their plates and there are too many weddings each day. I also asked to have the chair sashes I brought down back, and by Sunday, we had to leave, and they never gave them back to us. We also had to call the lobby and the wedding coordinator multiple times to get my inlaws' suitcase back so they could pack stuff in it to go home! it's a good thing my mom remembered to get the cake topper i also brought off of the cake once they cut it for us. I was under the assumption that Carolina provided menus (we had paid for a private reception at El Arrecife), and there were no menus on the guests' place settings. I could have printed them off Vistaprint so easily had I known she wouldn't make them! Carolina was supposed to call our room to get me and the bridesmaids, and we ended up going to the lobby and getting the butler to take us in the golf cart because it was getting close to 4 pm, when the ceremony was supposed to start. Hair and make up - A- While the spa is pricey, I did like both my hair and makeup. I prepaid on paypal, but i don't recommend it since i think if you go the first day you are checked in to make the appointment, you shouldn't have a problem. I had to skip my hair trial and they were gracious enough to let me reschedule, so that was great. Sometimes there was a little language barrier, but it ended up fine, one of the other girls would come over and help decipher what the hairstylist was trying to do and if I was ok with it. I brought down false eyelashes with me, and ended up not using them, because they put this goop on them - if you want to use them, you either need to bring the glue as well, or, apply them yourself. Ceremony - A- Priest Jean LaCaille - A Everyone loved the ceremony! We had the catholic package. He gave a nice sermon, it was short, no complaints there. We were in the old gazebo, which just isn't as nice as the new one, but its the only outdoor location for Catholic ceremonies. GP is not going to perform catholic ceremonies outdoors going forward, as the diocese just renovated the church. Dominican Trio - B I wasn't expecting the accordion player, and it drowned out the other two guys (guitar and something else, i guess some percussion instrument). It was $100 for the trio, but I think a CD or ipod would have been just as nice. DJ Mannia - A++ We met with carlos two days before, I didn't really prepare a song list, but the small list we gave him with the essentials (our song, father/daughter, etc.) he had everything and more! We got multiple compliments on the music selection, and he seemed to "read" our group perfectly. Completely would recommend!!! Shavon's wedding silks - A We used Shavon for our flowers, and they were perfect! We saved a lot by not buying one of the fresh flower packages for all the bridesmaids at the resort. My mom carried the complimentary bridal bouquet down the aisle. Wedding Boat Punta Cana - A++ We took all of our guests on the wedding boat as a "rehearsal dinner" the night before. We had a little bit of rain when we were getting on the boat, but it made for some great stories! We chose the mixed seafood grill, and it was delicious! This was one of the best meals we had while in DR. HDC Photography - A++ We had Milan from HDC shoot our wedding, and a videographer as well. Both were fantastic, we got pictures back the next evening, and by Sunday (two days after the wedding), we had our photos and CDs for all the prints! I can't say enough about Arnaud and his staff, check out the HDC thread on the DR thread, because there are a lot of us happy brides out there! Cocktail hour - A+ The food was excellent! We paid for the $6 pp menu, and it was SOOO worth it! The guests were hungry, people enjoyed the spread, and it was delicious! I wouldn't say the food is great in the buffets, but, this food was extra good. We had tempura shrimp, prosciutto, a bunch of things, I just can't remember. Wedding - A There were minor things that bothered me, but, they were so minor that it's just a special day where we became husband and wife. It was a great decision to have a destination wedding and spend a few days away with our family and friends. We chose the Grand Palladium complex because we could have the adults only aspect of RST, while my aunts and uncle could stay at the Palace Section with teenagers. For the price point, more guests were able to come, which makes us glad we did choose that resort. However, I waffled between GP and both Dreams, and I think I would have had a great wedding at any of those. You do not receive any special treatment at RST because you are a bride, because there are just so many. Dinner reception - A The servers were friendly, and the food was great! Even the chef got in the conga line towards the end. The food we served were the caprese salad (it was alright), the beef medallions (delicious!) and then fruit and wedding cake. The cake we had was vanilla, but then it also had a layer that tasted like mocha? It was whipped icing, and we love buttercream, so the cake was a bit of a disappointment. I gave them blue ribbon to match our colors which they used, but, the cake layers were so thin the proportion looked a little bit off. I'm probably the only one who would notice it! Feel free to PM me if you have questions! Awww, thats an adorable photo! Thanks for sharing! I really like your bouquet!

Photo by Monica Z Photography We forgot our placecards at home and had to improvise the day of the wedding, by creating a seating chart and giving it to our ushers. There was some drama with this, but it all worked out in the end. We had the seafood appetizer, the asparagus soup, rum, lime and mint sorbet, and then shrimp (substituted for the lobster tail) and the beef tenderloin for the entrees. The food was very tasty. It took FOREVER to be served these courses. If there are kids at your wedding, you should stop at the buffet on your way to the reception to get them something to eat. We had to do that for my little nephew, and my niece… and she was knocked out by the time her chicken nuggets and fries arrived with everybody else’s dinner. Photo by Monica Z Photography The length of time it took for dinner service is one of the main reasons we decided to nix the DJ ($900) and make a nice long reggae playlist on my iPod and rent the wireless microphone and speaker setup instead ($250). They have an iPod adapter, so you can plug right into the big speakers. This worked out well for us. We skipped most of the wedding traditions (bouquet toss, garter, etc.) and instead did the cutting of the cake (which was decent- whipped frosting), toasts by the Best Man and Maid of Honor and a thank-you to our guests, and everybody went upstairs to Infinity Lounge and across to the Disco for dancing after dinner was over. Photos by Monica Z Photography DAY AFTER Before we left for Negril on Monday, we did some awesome day-after shots around the property. I highly recommend doing this if you’re bringing a photographer with you. It was particularly special since our wedding day was kind of rainy and the wedding started late in the evening. I LOVE these shots. We got some beautiful pictures in the lobby, in the buildings, Infinity Lounge, one of the tiny beaches where the hermit crabs live, and of course in the giant pool. All in all, our guests had a beautiful vacation and lovely time (some are planning a return trip!), and our wedding was special, unique, touching and better than we could’ve imagined. I’m happy to answer any Q’s you have! Tina These are excellent photos! Thanks for sharing!

The food was okay, not as good as in the restaurants but not bad. I got sad that there was no guacamole for the chips (their guac is great) so DH asked a waiter and they brought me out a huge bowl. I didn’t do anything fancy with the tables (i.e. I didn’t pay for any special options) and I thought they looked fine. Here’s the buffet set up: Tables: We added the iPod speakers for dancing. It came with a sorta DJ, he basically just sat and ran the equipment. Or so I thought. I turned into an actual DJ sometime during the night. The dinner started with music that wasn’t on the iPod but it was good so I didn’t think anything of it (mellow dinner music stuff). Then, we did the dances which all the songs were from our iPod. About 30 minutes into the fun dance music I noticed that a song was playing that I didn’t recognize, it wasn’t on our iPod. The DJ just started playing some of his own stuff. I have no idea where he got it but there it was. I was a little mad b/c we worked so hard on our list of songs but everyone was dancing so it wasn’t that big of a deal. We did end up buying an extra hour of music so that we could dance until almost 10P. It was a good time and I think the only time I sat down is when all the men decided to serenade me.  On one note, b/c it was very dark outside many of the pictures turned out really dark as well. There were some lights but the only things that look really good are what you are actually aiming for (you can see the center of the photo but it’s really dark around it). As you can see in the picture of me being serenaded. Excursions: A Most people never left the resort but DH and I did go out a few times. We went scuba diving and on a lobster dinner cruise. I also went on a BOB which is a “Breathing Observation Bubble.†I don’t recommend BOBing if you get even a little seasick. Of the 5 of us that went only 2 of us didn’t get sick from it. My uncle puked while under water and my dad heaved over the side of the boat. I do recommend the lobster dinner cruise. It’s about 3 hours long, they take you out to a nice spot on the water and the food was good. There are free drinks the whole time and a really good jazz saxophonist plays during the trip. It was very romantic. Entertainment The MP entertainment was very good. At night they had a show at one of their two large outdoor theaters. Our favorites were the Michael Jackson show and the Fire dancers. We went almost every night and had a really good time. The disco at the resort also opens at 1030P every night. We went the night after the wedding and had fun. Of course, there was no one really in there so we had a disco to ourselves. If I forgot anything or there is anything else you’d like to know please feel free to ask. On a side note, I realize that the resort was very different for me as it may be for others as we were there at a low capacity (from 10-20% on different nights) but from what I’ve heard the resort never really has a crowded feel anyway. I’m just really glad we braved the Swine Flu for our adventure. As did another couple that got married on the same day as us whom we met at the bar… That looked like one awesome wedding! Thanks for sharing!

You get the overall set up for the mayan ceremony which includes natural native table set up with plants, fruits, seeds, etc for the ceremony. and the entire ceremony performed by a mayan shaman. Its very very different in comparison to a normal ceremony. mayans do their vows from the heart while their lover holding their palms to the other person's heart. very symbolic and romantic but definitely not the type of wedding for ppl who like traditional weddings... and claudia is : cfonesca

Looks like a much better deal than was offered before (especially if you want to play golf or go to the spa). I'm hoping we can use vacation dollars to pay for our wedding day salon appointments (like hair & makeup). Only $300 of the $1500 can be used for salon/spa services, but that would definitely cover my hair & makeup appointments. It also says you can use the $1500 on the Precious Collection Wedding Packages. I'm not sure exactly what that means. Maybe someone with a more responsive WC could ask for more details on that. I asked Claudia about that, but they said no that the spa and salon are two different things. But often times I've heard this information may not be current. So I would say ask when you get there. I was a little disappointed on the $750 credit because the main reason we booked the moon was for the free trips. now we need to reduce the amount of trips we and our guests will be taking during our stay.

We were told we didn't need to do much until about 1 month out. As for home, we have already sent the Save the dates and are just trying to get everyone booked. My sister-in-law is handling most of the stuff related to Welcome Bags (she loves that stuff), and thats about it. I am not planning to buy as dress till June or July. I have too much other stuff going on before then to worry about it!! As for DJ and photography: I have heard good things about DJ Mannia and that is who the resort uses, so we requested him. As for photographer, we are using the picture package that come in our resort package for our family, posed pictures. We hired an outside vendor to do the wedding itself through the end of the reception. We are using Caribbean Blue Weddings. Playa del Carmen Caribbean Blue Weddings Home Page You can send an email request and Irene willcontact you. Prices are reasonable too. They give you a CD and you can make your own albums. Kelly wow, looks like a good choice in wedding coordinators. best of luck to you all!
