  1. Everything looks FANTASTIC!! Can I crash your wedding? Have a fantastic time - I can't wait to see pictures and hear all about it when you return.
  2. I vote # 2. I really wanted to try that dress on when I was shopping but no store within a 100 mile radius of my house or my parents carried it I'd love to see a picture if you try it on!
  3. I love it! We're leaving on Dec 31 so I might use this as a Christmas / pre-travel gift for everyone!
  4. 2 months from tomorrow for me...I'm so excited!!
  5. Congrats! Welcome to the forum. I'm from NY (waaaaay upstate) and am getting married in Jamaica 2 months from tomorrow!
  6. I voted # 1. # 2 is pretty to but it looks like it might be too heavy if you're going to be frolicking around in the water.
  7. I stuck my hand in my back pocket today and realized the pocket was stuck together by gum. After pondering it for a while, I realized when I was shopping last weekend, I wasn't near a garbage to throw my gum away so I smushed it between a piece of scrap paper and tucked into my back pocket, probably thinking I'd throw it away as soon as I passed a trash can. Well of course, I forgot about it and washed and dried my jeans last night. And they're new jeans too. So what dumb things have you done lately that make you shake your head and think..."DUH!"
  8. I already have a dress but yours is beautiful...and it looks great on you (better than the model, IMHO )
  9. Congrats Marla! I missed the weigh-in this week. (My mom was visiting for my first dress fitting and shopping!) Between my shower last weekend and the Halloween candy at work, I know I didn't have a good week. I would have done a lot worse if I didn't have this competition to keep me motivated. It's like there's a little birdie whispering "don't even think about it" in my ear each time I look at the candy bowl!
  10. ewww that is so gross! I used to work with a guy who wouldn't fart but he would sit in his cubicle make make farting noises all day. That, and spit his chew juice in a coffee cup he'd carry around everywhere. I kinda want to barf just thinking about him. Oh and nail clipping is definitely cringe-worthy. Can you hide his nail clippers the next time he gets up from his desk?
  11. I tried this dress on. I'm a 10/12 street size. There's a band around the middle, inside the dress that creates the shape. I really liked how it fit but ultimately went with a different dress. This was definitely my second pick though. (The designer is Alfred Angelo.)
  12. My co-worker and I thought about sending an annoymous email to corporate but we decided it would probably make the entire situation a lot worse than if we just kept our mouths shut. Same goes for saying anything to our GM. It's a lose-lose situation no matter how you look at it. They're both pretty annoying in their own way so I wouldn't be heartbroken if either one quit or was fired. I'm desperately searching for a new job so I'm hoping I won't have to put up with is much longer. Too bad the job market sucks so much right now and it's especially hard to find work in my field but I'm just trying to not let any of the craziness affect me! And our wedding is in 10 weeks...
  13. My head is going to explode if I don't get this off my chest! I work in a warehouse (I'm work in the office) and one other employee and I report to the office supervisor. She is 50 years old and divorced with a 15yo daughter and a 20yo daughter. We have 8 hourly employees, mostly male ages ranging from early 20's to 50's. Sometime in January, my supervisor mentioned to me (in a "friend" kind of way, not acting as a boss) that she was letting an employee sleep on her couch because he didn't have a place to go (got kicked out of his apartment for whatever reason). Then a few weeks later she let it slip to my co-worker that he makes her so happy, blah blah blah. They've now been together for about 10 months. He's 23. She is old enough to be his mother and he's young enough to date her daughter. In my own judgemental way I think their relationship is strange but it's none of my business and if they make each other happy, whatever. Who am I to say anything? But the problem lies with the fact that for a few months she became his supervisor and everyone (including our General Manager) found out about their relationship. She has since been taking from the role of his direct supervisor but she is also the HR Administrator so there is always a reason for him to have closed door meetings in her office. Meanwhile, GM just makes offhand comments about how well she knows him compared to everyone else but hasn't really done much of anything to put an end to the favortism or bias on her part. Now it's to the point where she babies him in every aspect of his job even though she is not his boss. In turn, my co-worker and I are dragged out to the warehouse to help him because she knows the signs of when he's getting overwhelmed and is about to have a nervous breakdown. They carpool together but she works for 30 minutes later than him so he sits in her car every afternoon to wait for her. He calls her at least once during that half hour and they talk all lovey-dovey, ending each call with "I love you". It makes me want to barf and scream at the same time. I'm so tired of hearing the excuses why he's so defensive, rude, stressed or whatever else the excuse is! It's totally inappropriate to be dating your employee. I don't care who you are or what the situation is. Once you have the opportunity to be their superior, something needs to give. BLAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ok, i feel better now. thanks for letting me vent!
  14. I don't know how much help it'll be to you but we only invited immediate family and all 8 invited guests are attending! We are staying at an all-inclusive and traveling during New Years so the prices are definitely inflated. Including airfare from either Albany NY or Burlington VT, they are paying either $3k (3 nights) or $4k (5 nights) per couple. Definitely not cheap but we were working with a strict time frame so there wasn't much we could do about it.
  15. Everything looks wonderful! I love the idea of using Red Stripe bottles for the sand ceremony - very Jamaican!
  16. I just found out my dress is in! I stopped into the store to ask if they had a ship date yet and the lady went upstairs and came back with my dress. I couldn't help it - I had to try it on and it fits PERFECTLY! I just need to have some length taken off and cups added into the bust. I'm going for my official fitting next weekend with the seamstress. My first shower is this weekend and I'm so excited to see all my family and friends. 2 years ago, we moved a few hours away so there are a ton of people I don't get to see regularly. I can't believe how quickly the time is flying by. I'll be an old married lady soon!
  17. By runners I assume you are referring to sneakers? I don't know what time of year you're traveling but we're going during winter so I plan on wearing my sneakers on the plane. That way I have them but I don't have to pack them.
  18. I know what you mean...having a destination wedding means there will inevitebly be someone who isn't happy for one reason or another. I've got a few random family members who seem a put put off that they're not invited but we found it easier (not to mention cheaper) to just invite immediate family. We have many family members who would not be able to afford the trip and and a few who would have no problem paying for it. We chose not to extend invitiations to any of them because we didn't want anyone to feel like they had to find a way to pay for such an expensive trip. And we didn't want to exclude the "less wealthy" people by just inviting those who we knew could afford it. You're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't!
  19. our wedding is Jan 2 and my showers are planned for Oct 16 and Nov 6. I didn't want to have them too close to the holidays and some family will be traveling from out of town and we didn't want to worry about bad weather stranding anyone (we live in the northeast so anything could happen!)
  20. I haven't been yet but we are honeymooning at Couples Negril. I have read nothing but good things about the Couples resorts. There are 4 in Jamaica (2 in Negril and 2 in Ocho Rios). It isn't as luxurious as some other resorts but how much time do you really plan on spending in your room anyway? We were going to get married at Couples but our date didn't fit within their schedule so we're transferring from Sandals the day after the wedding for 5 days. You can start with a travel agent. I just went to my local AAA office and was given a bunch of information to base my decision. If you work with a TA, they will know exactly what to do. Much easier than trying to figure it all out yourself! My TA is working to get all the details of the ceremony squared away before we arrive...I'd never have the patience she has to coordinate it all :-)
  21. yay! I'm getting so excited! Is that your bouquet? It's gorgeous.
  22. thanks Kristy. I reported the person. I wasn't sure if it qualified as spam or if I was just being picky! I feel like less of a poster sometimes because I haven't reached 150 posts yet but I do participate in the stuff I find important and I relate to. I'm sure I'm going to insult someone...but it feels so impersonal to simply post the same thing over and over just to reach that magic number.
  23. Maybe 2pm is the latest time available on your date? I'm getting married at 3pm and like Caroline says, the "free" ceremonies go until 4pm. A sunset ceremony will cost extra. I agree with you on the rules and restrictions though. I'm finding out about added charges for stuff that I hadn't even imagined. And I'm having a VERY hard time getting simple answers from the WC and even my TA is getting a hassle from her now too. Honestly if I could, I would probably look into changing my resort. But our time frame is very limited and we're getting married around a holiday so it is what it is. I'm going to make the best of it.
