  1. I've been to Punta Cana but I haven't been to this resort yet but I'll be there on Saturday. The reason the beach would close at this time is because it's dark. The sun goes down pretty early. I'm sure you can still access the beach and they'll have security but it wouldn't be recommended. It would be the same for all resort.
  2. I'm glad you are using Marry Me by Train as well. I love it. I think you should share it with your fiance. I think the song is more from his perspective and as I walk towards him I'm responding. It sounds silly when I say that.
  3. Hey, glad I could help. The order arrived in a couple weeks. They didn't send me an electronic invoice or tracking number so I was nervous. The invoice was attached to the package which I would need to get it through the border. I'm really happy with the pashminsa and think for such a good price it's something the ladies will really appreciate. It can get chilly at night. I've been to Fort Frances briefly, I can imagine the visit to Thunder Bay was a nice break. lol! Happy planning!
  4. Hi Papertaco. I'm in Thunder Bay and we're about 40 minutes away from Minnesota. We ship items to the border store and pick them up. It's not too long of a trip but I only do it a couple times a year. We don't have a great selection in town and we can get better prices in the US, there are also no large cities less than 8 hours away from us in Canada.
  5. i purchased mine based on my wedding colours (red and aqua). No matter what colour I get it won't match everyone's outfits so I got the colours I wanted plus a few for myself. I'm in Canada and was still able to order from Pioneer group. Their emails (spelling, grammar, lack of complete sentences) left me a bit nervous but someone else had ordered for me before and had them shipped to me so I knew I was happy with the quality. They didn't have any more of the shade of aqua I wanted but they had enough variety that I'm happy with the colour I got. With shipping and the exchange rate they came to about $3.87 each which is great and I didn't have to pay duty at the border when I picked them up!!!
  6. I am for sure doing OOT bags for 37 people which is really about 16 bags. I am sure they will be over flowing once I get them packed for my Feb 1, 2011 wedding. I am borrowing family's suitcases to bring them down for me. I have been finding deals on items all year long but will have lots of left overs because some cancelled. I have flip flops, slippers for some, cups, sleep masks, note books, gum, toys for kids, bath products, room key holders, pashminas, facecloths wrapped like cupcakes, tatoos, hand sanitizer, welcome cards and a few other things I can remember. oh and a magazine I am designing for the flight with travel details, games, photos, itinerary.. You don't need to do a lot. I just got started way too early and forgot everything I already purchased. Some are doing thermal mugs only which is smart or just a few well needed items. There is a thread with other OOT bag items and what was most popular. I had most fun with the OOT bags because I am so thankful they are all coming.
  7. I am having the Majestic Colonial salon do my hair. I just don't know if I have to put in my extensions first, we'll see. I heard great things about their stylists except that do not speak english. So be sure to bring photos of what you would like and extra bobby pins and hair spray. My sister-in-law had hers done but the pins were dark and she is very blond. Also just in case I don't like it or want to fix it I'll have extra supplies. I heard the make up the do is terrible, with really dark foundation, bold colours and the dreaded foundation line under your chin. I went to Sephora and had a make up artist select the right products and show me how apply it. I made sure to buy blotting sheets and a primer base for shine and staying power. If you add extra powder during the day to hide shine it will just bulk up and look cakey after awhile. I will be sure to practice a few times here first.
  8. thanks for posting the 'how to'. I am already making the round stacked ones in various sizes (like your smaller ones) but didn't even think about adding texture to the entire piece of fabric through the flame and cutting each as separate pedals. I am doing this for sure. I am using organza right now with some layers of tulle, but will try silk to. I am using these for centrepieces and will pin/velcro them to a runner down the table like a little garden. Your design will help to add more texture. thanks again.
  9. This is my colour scheme! I found one photo with this combination and thought I was so unqiue to pick it until I googled red and aqua wedding and found so much inspiration. It only made me love the colour combination more. Some people were surprised when I mentioned it but it is stunning. Great choice. I have found some products but with more of a blue than greenish aqua like your photos. It is fun to find a new decor item or fabric but I just have to remember when to stop buying more. I"m even using these colours in my house now is a few sparing places.
  10. Valentine Baby, I am going to order from Pioneer Group and have them shipped to the US border which I live 45 mins from. Not sure how to do it but if you want I can include your order and we can figure out shipping and payment. I'll order in the next couple days.

  13. I'm pretty sure you just wrote that post for me, down to the province and age. I have planned my entire wedding around diy projects and in my head they look great but otherwise I am hoping for a diy miracle maybe a Extreme Makeover-Wedding edition. Getting started early enough and practice is what I'll have going for me and maybe cutting some of my ideas. Hiring pro is definitely in the works. There is lots of help out there for you so do not be too dsicouraged and find out what you are good at and work from there.
  14. I will also be this girl when the time comes. We spend so much time finding the perfect dress for the perfect day and we only get to wear it once. that's crazy! I think every city should have an annual ball where all brides are encouraged to wear their dresses again.
  15. Thanks Sebitasalejo, We did get engaged and I am blissfully happy (see my post just before yours). It did seem pointless to want a proposal after we made plans but it is one of a few life changing things a guy can plan for in his life. I felt I took it away from him even though he was onboard with the planning from the beginning. I just needed to know that I wasn't pressuring him and a proposal (with or without a ring) was that memorable moment in time that was ours always and forever. My FI knew how my brother proposed: amazing race style through Ireland, hidden clues, a charter plane, misty waves of the ocean, a pocketwatch with a timeless quote... and although he may not be as creative he wanted to at least create our own story. Love that guy!
  16. I think the last bride to do a group order lived in New York and just went to the store and picked them all up then charged each of us for our individual shipping. Time consuming, but I was very grateful.
  17. Well it looks like 20+ people want to order but no one wants to take the bulk order for us. I'm in Canada so I can't order for everyone because of the border and extra shipping costs to send back to the US so I will find another way to order myself. Good luck ladies!
  18. Feb 1 Majestic Colonial bride: bought the dress! It is a david's bridal dress that only arrived at the shop the day before. love it and now I need to figure out the rest of my ensemble. My cousin has invited 10 other people aside from the 4 in her family I invited. All my seats are booked up so I'm worried about some of my local people having to pay more and hoping they call the TA soon. Getting legally married in less than 3 weeks which will be exactly 6 months before our Punta Cana wedding so I'm hoping this means double the celebration and presents each year. I am trying to keep it simple but the more I research the more things I want for my wedding. The OOT bags are over flowing and I am now reserving space in familiies luggage. I have heard of some bride bringing 8 rubbermaid cases with them but I think I will keep it down from that. I want to make my own decor items so I'm trying to work with paper, fabric and battery candles to to make it work and not overstuff my luggage. Happy planning everyone and I would love to see your projects.
  19. Correct, the water is not safe. They provide water bottles in your room for brushing your teeth and drinking and the resort bars will supply you with more any time. You should also be careful about ice at the bar, bring thermos cups to keep drinks cold. I did have a tour guide tell us that the water is filtered at the resort but I still won't drink it. Also watch juice machines that are made with water, only drink things that comes from a bottle.
  20. It's perfect. Anything you want to wear is the perfect choice for your wedding. Make it uniquely yours with jewelry, accents etc. I know some dresss may be really heaving with many layers but this looks comfortable and light.
  21. Going dress shopping again and I have to find something this weekend or I go without lol! I've gotten 4 reply cards back in the mail, so freak'n excited. Bigger news: officially engaged 3 weeks ago. Good because I sent the invites to print, earlier that day. Yeah, I'm a wedding planner by trade and I little zealous but we knew when and where we were getting married so at least I clued him in on that stuff.
  22. Welcome to the forum! It's so much fun and I rarely miss a day going through all the posts. I hear a lot of great things about the BDW travel agents. I found my travel agent in my home town, she specializes in destination weddings so she was able to do more and answer more specific information than another travel agent i spoke with. Make sure they are supportive, can answer questions about the resort and what to expect and plan for. Have fun planning!
  23. Looking at my sparkly ring. Even though I have been planning for months I wasn't engaged. My FI proposed last Friday reminding me why Friday's are so great, and look it's the end of the week again. Won't be as good as last week but it's still not Monday.
