  1. Well... we enjoyed ourselves & had the greatest time. Just wanted to let you girls know to have fun with this whole process. Your wedding is all about YOU.
  2. Oh we had such a good time! We wanted to get everyone excited about the destination wedding, so we decided to have a Jamaican themed engagement party. FI was great- he built my tiki bar that I just had to have. Last September we used to sit at this Tiki bar by Sun Garden Resort on the beach in Negril & when we decided to have the party, I really wanted this Tiki bar- and he built it in a day! The pics are from my crappy camera phone since someone stole my brand new camera out of the car, but they really don't do any justice. The party was outside in the evening & we had the black tablecloths on the bar w/beautiful candle arrangements in vases & christmas lights on the bar & balcony & tiki torches. We served Jerk Chicken, Jerk Oxtails, Rice & Peas, Cabbage, & Yams...yum! And of course, it took me a month but I finally got the recipe right for Rum Punch! I made 5 gallons & there was not a drop left. Everyone is still talking about it... Â Â Â Â Â
  3. Actually, the Chicago summer heat dashed that dream! Once we got into full summer, I knew there was no way I could ever wear that dress as beautiful as it is. I went to Filene's basement for the Running of the Brides & found a dress that was the same color & silhouette but weights about a pound. I am always hot (I sleep with the windows open in the winter, lol) and would've been absolutely miserable in that dress!
  4. We'll be by the pool area too. I think that'll be a beautiful spot! Wow only 7-1/2 months left for me...I'm getting nervous!
  5. Oh so pretty! Very nice- thanks for sharing!
  6. I am with you girl! That is one of the reasons that attracted me to my wedding resort, Rockhouse Hotel- no kids under the age of 14!! I have 5 kids and I love them- but by gosh, this is gonna be one day that is about me just a little bit! I don't get much time to myself, and I really don't want to be running around after everybody else's kids on my wedding day... I want to let go and let loose! It's your day, make it what you and FI want it to be...
  7. Beautiful! You looked so happy and I love the colors! I can't wait for my day!
  8. Yay! She’s agreed to make all my girls’ jewelry! I am so excited! I was having so many problems finding something for my girls. My colors are turquoise and orange and I haven’t really found anything that I liked. I wanted the bridesmaids to have orange jewelry and maid/matron of honor to have something that was mostly orange with hints of turquoise in them, but I couldn’t find anything like that. I’ve posted some of the pics from her website, but her site doesn’t even have half of the beautiful pieces that I was able to see first hand- she’s an Etsy seller too! I Love the fact that the beads and shells actually come from the most exotic places! She’s an ex-model that has travelled the world and is able to get really unique components for the jewelry, so everything truly looks unique. I heart her
  9. Lisa and Lana---- Ok, so now I'm really peeved!! I have been communicating with Inise since January of this year and asked a few times about a discount and she told me there is NO discount and we're renting all 34 rooms... so pi$$ed!
  10. So happy for you! I definitely know how it feels to be at peace... happy planning
  11. I'm in Maryland for a wedding and we're staying with FI's family. His niece-in-law was showing me some jewelry that she makes and it is the most amazing jewelry ever! I saw a pair of gorgeous earings with some type of shell or something that comes from Argentina and I love them, however they are already sold But she promises that if she is able to get some more of the shells, she will make me a pair for my wedding. I just want you guys to see some of this beautiful jewelry (but everything is not on the her website, I'm looking at most of it in her work room): http://tarasoffthechain.com/main.sc
  12. Oh great Lisa!! Now I'll have someone else that I can talk to about Rockhouse and wedding plans! I am so excited- I never see too many brides on here getting married there, so I'm super excited to have someone to compare notes to.
  13. Congrats Katie! I just got my dress, too, last Friday at the Running of the Brides sale.
  14. Welcome back Mswhatever! Glad to hear you had a great time Mrs.!
  15. Thanks ladies! I heart my dress too ! It is really light which is great. It's similar to another dress I tried on at a bridal shop that I really liked, but it was so heavy. We counted the layers of net under the dress and it was like 9! She did say they could remove some of the layers, but geesh! And I love, love, love the beadwork!!
  16. Congrats! You've found the right place to start your planning!
  17. Okay ladies, here's some pics! Front Front Close-up Front Bead Work Back Back Close-up
  18. Ok, just threw a baby shower today and I am pooped! But because I love you ladies, I'm going to my closet now to take a pic. I really, really like it and I'm surprised because I've been carrying around a pic of my dream dress for months which I was gonna make (reluctantly). However, the Chicago summer got to me and since I'm naturally always hot I started to freak out with my choice of dress thinking "If I'm this hot now in Chicago, what's gonna happen in Jamaica! I got sooo worried about standing on a cliff in a dress while sweat was literally dripping off my face!! So, I got a little sad about the whole dress situation thinking I wasn't gonna find something that suited my personality like the other dress. But I did! Be back soon with a pic!
  19. Oh congrats peterpanpixiedust! I found my dress too, just when I contemplated giving up. I started another thread a couple of weeks ago, wondering if anyone had been to this event. I do like my dress, it's a Demetrios and I saved a ton of money so I'm happy, lol.
  20. Ok ladies- I went!! I didn't make it at 8am as I had to work, but I did go after work around 5 o'clock. You should've seen me looking at that clock every 10 minutes since 8 this morning, lol. There were still lots of brides there and soooo many gowns although I have a feeling I did miss all the good stuff. One bride was crying and turning red because the first dress she tried on was "the one", and many girls had friends guarding their bulk of dresses. As a matter of fact, I was just going up and down the aisles looking for a specific color and style of dress and a girl was like "These are mine!!", I was like, Oookay... Anyhoo, I did find a dress. It's a Demetrios that was regularly $3400 that I got for $499. I'm happy!
