Thanks for the update! Most of my family will be flying Air JA out of Fort Lauderdale on April 15, so I hope the transition is smooth! So far we've had some issues because they cancelled a flight leaving Mobay at 4:30 on Sunday, which several of my relatives had booked, and Air JA sent NO e-mail or communication at all. When we called we found out they had been re-booked to a flight leaving on Monday morning! They did allow them to change to the 12:30 with no charge, but that's a lot earlier than the 4:30 they were originally planning on. I just went on the Air Jamaica website and it was showing the same flight schedule as before...I checked Caribbean Air website also, but when I select the departure city of Fort Lauderdale it won't allow my to choose JA as the destination, so I guess they haven't changed their website either.

Table Runners on Round Tables?
NegrilLB replied to bride2b10's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
I think table runners look great on round tables! Now you've got me considering using them too, thanks for the idea. -
Very true about people waiting to the day of to buy gifts from the registry...I know this because I always do, lol. I'm going to my friend's shower in FL this weekend and I don't want to fly with the gift, so I'm just getting it when I get down there. The good news is you'll actually be surprised when you open your presents Between my FI and I we already have too much stuff, so we didn't register anywhere. We're hoping this encourages people to just give us money! We'll see if that works. My MOH really wanted to have a bridal shower for me though (so nice) so we're doing a girl's only shower and they're all getting me lingerie. I know this because she randomly asked me for my bra and underwear size. I'm sure I'll never end up wearing all that I get, but it will be fun.

I am planning on having these cards set up for the guests to take with them to their assigned table, and they can sit where ever they want at the table. It will have their food choice on it so if they bring it to their seat it will make it easier for the servers.

I never heard of escort cards until recently either...apparently they're the same thing as place cards. That's good to know that my printer can probably handle the cardstock printing. Definitely gives me more options! Melindel, those calligraphy place cards are pretty and a lot cheaper than I would have expected.

I'm having a surprisingly hard time choosing a good place to get reception place cards from. I've found a few websites that have them but not any that stand out. I'm having 100+ guests so I am trying to minimize the work that needs to go into each one. Originally I was ruling out any that you had to print out yourself because I was thinking that cardstock wouldn't be able to go thru my inkjet printer very well...but has anyone been able to do this without a problem? I found a couple sites that will print them out for you if you send them a list in Excel: Place Cards - Personalized with your guests' names standard tented escort card, custom escort card, custom place cards This one has some designs on them and for an extra charge they will print them out for you: Place Cards I was hoping that I could use Vistaprint so that I could upload our monogram onto each one, but it turned out they don't have any cards that are small enough to be escort cards. Some websites had some place cards with cute designs, but you have to write in the names and tables by hand, and I have terrible hand-writing!

There's no designated dance-floor area at Aunt Ruby's, but you can use any part of the 2 terraces as a dancefloor. Each terrace fits either 10 rectangular tables of 10 or 8 round tables of 8, just to give an idea of how big each side it. So with 42 people, you could either use one whole terrace for dancing and the other side for sitting and eating, or you could use rectangular tables on one terrace and use the rest of the space on the terrace for the dance floor. Hope this helps...

My email address is [email protected] Thanks! Welcome NikkiT! I don't think PhillyGal has been on here for a while, but there are a couple reviews posted on here that have pictures. We're planning a welcome get-together the 1st night and a non-private rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding...basically telling people they can meet at the restaurant at a certain time if they would like to join us. For the welcome party we're using a dj to play music but you can also have a steel pan band for $350 per hour (according to the wedding package info they sent me).

Im a Secrets Wild Orchid B2B!!!!!
NegrilLB replied to Mrs K 2010!'s topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
How exciting! I think you're the first bride I've seen on this board for Secrets in JA. Can't wait to hear about it! -
I got some info from them back in May for a private reception for 100+ at the Steakhouse...they told me it was $1200 to reserve the steakhouse restaurant for a 4 hour reception (not dependent on the # of people you have). That was a while ago, so one of the RIU TP brides on this board can probably give you more detailed and current info. Happy Planning!

I e-mailed them at [email protected]. If that doesn't work, you can try calling them at 1 876 680 0000, and ask for the wedding coordinator (Nicole).

Hi Jules23, I considered and visited both resorts so I may be able to help. I chose Iberostar so I might be a little biased But really it depends on what you're looking for. Grand Palladium is a huge resort with a really cool pool, but the beach is a bit small and rocky. GP will be a whole lot less expensive for your guests... Iberostar can be pretty expensive, especially during the high season. To me it was worth it though, the food at Iberostar was better in my opinion and I liked the beach there more. Let me know if you have any questions about either place... I'm not voting for either because I think they are both good choices, just depends on your style and what you're looking for.

Not going all out with decor
NegrilLB replied to Megan24's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
The only things I'm bringing down for decor are paper lanterns. I'm also bringing small favors that will look nice on the tables. I agree that the beauty of the location shouldn't require much 'dressing up' so I really don't see a need to spend a whole lot of money on flowers and centerpieces. -
If you took Paper Lanterns with you
NegrilLB replied to msmoodyr's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
I'm thinking of bringing 3 different colors, 10-12 of each (so 30-36) in the 16 inch size. I think if I put lights in all of them it will be too much light for the area (esp. since I'm planning to use candles also), so I am thinking of putting lights in only 10-12 of them of the same color. I hope this doesn't look weird... asianideas.com has the lanterns for good prices. -
What Necklace should I pick??
NegrilLB replied to btn1091's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
If the starfish on #3 is smaller than the one in #1, then I like #3 (it looks like it's a little smaller than the others in the picture). With crystals if it is too big it might be over-doing it with the sparkles. If they are the same size then I like #1. They're all nice though. -
Riu Jamaica Brides and 80% Guest Rule
NegrilLB replied to TaniBBurwell's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
I'm not getting married at a RIU but I went to a friend's wedding at ROR. As far as I know all of her guests booked their rooms on their own (at least we did - using the RIU website). It didn't seem as though the hotel really kept track of who was attending the wedding and where they were staying (she had about 140 guests). If you're worried about a lot of people booking rooms somewhere else, make sure you let them know about the pass they'll have to purchase to go to the wedding. That seems to get people to just book at the RIU My friend had a few guests that were living in Jamaica or staying with relatives there, and they booked a room just for the night of the wedding since the cost is about the same as the day pass. -
My Wedding at the Iberostar Rose Hall Suites
NegrilLB replied to JamaicaorBust2010's topic in Destination Wedding Reviews
Thanks for posting these pictures! I was wondering what the arch flowers that are included look like so this is really helpful. They look nice so I may get to skip paying $400+ for the real ones. The bouquet is really pretty! Do you know which florist they were from? I remember at one time the resort was working with Tai Flora but Nicole said that lately they've been working with Flower Studio. -

Thanks for the review!! Glad to hear that your overall experience was great. Thanks for the tip on the restaurant reservations...I guess we'll need to get on that as soon as we get there. Using conch shells to hold down the aisle runner sounds pretty. Did they do that automatically or did you have to request and pay extra for it? -
If you have all 100 guests and don't mind the rectangular tables, fitting everyone on one terrace I think would still work. I had been trying to figure out where to put the head table also... for now we have actually decided to have it in the area that is between the 2 terraces. When we were there in October we asked Nicole if that was possible and she said it would be fine. Looking at the space it looked like it would work out so that most people on both sides would be able to see the head table. Thanks for the Taiflora price info, especially the huppa. $400 is the best price I've seen so far for that kind of arrangement. I haven't heard from Flowerstudio yet. She has responded to my e-mails saying that she can get me prices, but then doesn't give them to me lol.

I asked her what is the maximum number of tables that will fit on each terrace, so with 8tables I think that the terrace will be full. But that at least gives an idea of how much space there is in general... so if you have only 4 tables on the terrace, you have 4 tables' space worth for dancing. I'm thinking we might do 7-8 tables on one terrace, and then on the other one 5-6 tables (depending on # of people). Then we would use the remaining space on the 2nd terrace for the first dances since you don't need that much space for that. Then the main dancing area on the beach. I don't know, I keep changing my mind, lol.
