  2. I couldn't help but LOL, drawing the parallel between your MIL and my dad. At the AHR, my dad and mom went up to the podium for what was SUPPOSED to be a 'Welcome to the family' speech for DH, but proceeded to take the liberty of thanking everyone individually who was involved in the wedding. Our turn was next, and I had nothing to say that dad hadn't already covered! lmao! Make sure she doesn't hi-jack your thank you speech!
  3. Hey Luli! I definitely suggest seeking out brides who are getting married at/around the same time as you and sharing a photographer! I managed to link up with another girl and, together, could afford to bring someone along! Managed to add one more bride to the mix later on as well! This was huge cost savings, plus the photog got three destination weddings to add to her portfolio! As I recall, the resort photographer was horribly overpriced and the photos would be unedited.

  6. Hey ladies! Just a heads up from a GRP bride... the Thai restaraunt IS beautiful and very romantic, but its not all that condusive to having a lot of people together. The best way to explain it is that is is sectioned off into platforms that hold maybe 4 tables. The sections are divided by a waist high wooden fence. Lol, that's not a great description, but hopefully you get my meaning. Unfortunately, I have no pictures, but if you are considering this an option, I would definitely request some photos from the wedding coordinator. Ask for pics of previous events held there, just to see what the set up is like. I just can't imagine how they would do it without splitting up your group...
  7. Sounds to me like your aunt is just using your cousins situation as an excuse. Likely, she has other reasons for not going, but doesn't want to disappoint you by making you feel like she can't make it a priority. So she has found an 'out' that doesn't place the responsibility directly on herself. People are often motivated by their emotions or lack thereof. And act in strange ways that can easily be misinterpreted or only seen for face value by those who fall victim to their actions. Recognize that you have no control over how others act/feel, but you do have control over how you accept/react to their actions/feelings. Sometimes you just have to step aside and choose not to be a part of someone's drama. I think this advice can be applied to your aunt as well as to the member who tore a strip off you earlier in the thread. As a human being you are entitled to feel. Your feelings are always valid, regardless of rationality. I think what you were looking for here was an outside perspective, not a chastizing. Focus on yourself, within this process, and not on how others are judging/dealing with it. You will have an amazing time, regardless. All that matters is that you and your groom get to the alter and say your vows. Everything else is just a story for the kids. Good luck and HAPPY planning!

  15. I'm back! And had an amazing time at the Grand Riviera Princess. I will be putting together my review over the next few days, so stand by. I'll post the link here as well. AusCan 2010- after our Ala Carte dinner at La Fondue (I definitely suggest La Fondue or Las Olas for the atmosphere) we went to the courtyard bar for our first dance. We waited around awhile and tried to get them to play our CD, and were told they weren't set up for it. So we had to pick a song from the singers list. It was something by Neil Diamond. lol, picked for being slow and short by my new husband who doesn't like the spotlight. Then we all headed to the Sunset lobby bar. Wes and I took off around 11 or 12, but quite a few people did head out to the disco shortly after that. It was a great time, and no one seemed to mind the fact that we hadn't done something more formal.
  16. Great review! Looks like you had an amazing time! We actually got to drive through there on a tour, to pick up some people and it looked like a fun place to stay!
  17. At the thrift store, for $4.99. lol. Actually, I've seen quite a few at the thrift shops, it appears they don't get much use these days! It has a hanger clasp on one end, you lay the dress flat (wasn't quite long enough, but I figure the dress will need to be steamed regardless), then zip it closed, Then the bag folds in half and clasps closed, so it's suitcase sized.
  18. Vikki, Congrats!! I can't wait to see your photos! Enjoy the rest of your stay! It's honeymoonin' time!! Kiera, I'm thinking about you! Hope your wedding today goes just as planned, and you savour every moment! The garment suitcase I bought is quite large, and I was able to also fit in FI's wedding clothes, 2 of the bm dresses and my accessories, so I doubt they won't call it my 'carry on', but I went and bought a jumbo purse (thank god that's the style these days), which has made all the difference! If they won't allow you your dress AND a carry on, Angela, you may want to try the XXL purse approach! Today is my last day of work! WOOT! Crossing my fingers that my boss will let me go early! Then hom for my pedi, final bits of packing and then to the hotel for the night! One of FI's gm and his wife got a room close to the airport, so we'll be dropping off my car at my parents and then bunking in with them. Which means last night was the last in my bed! YAY!!
  19. YAY!! Congrats, Melissa! I hope everything was amazing (I'll bet you were stunning in your dress)!!! Can't wait to hear from you on your return!
  20. kate.com has got it, I think. Do the legal wedding here with an officiant and your family present. My officiant did have a ceremony where we exchanged the rings and said vows and everything. Then have a symbolic ceremony at your destination.
  21. I just went to the 2nd hand store and picked up a garment suitcase. $4.99. Oh yeah.
  22. Great work, Lisa! Everything looks great! Have an amazing time! I can't wait to hear how everything went and see pictures upon your return!!
