  2. Hi Ladies, My fiance and I went to our local traveler's health clinic to update our shots (hep b and a) and we told her about our honeymoon plans for Belize. She told us we would need malaria pills if traveling to Belize outside of Belize City...... any thoughts around this? Anyone traveled to Belize before? Did you get malaria pills? She mentioned that the risk is 14%......I just wanted to get an idea of taking malaria pills is a common thing for travelers going to Belize.. thanks!

Hmmm... the way I understood it from the WC is that if you book on the Mexican Terrace (for a private event) and you have over 20 people, you need to choose the menu ahead of time as this is the most efficient way to ensure your guests get their food within a resonably time. However, this has no extra cost.

We were wondering if anyone has used the DJ the Riu Palace offers We have contacted DJ Ricardo but his rate is $230 US/hr and it seems like its going up in 2010....from the extra price list we received from Daniella, the resort DJ (or the DJ they use for weddings) in pacakge 1 is $120/hr.... Are there any Riu Palace brides out there that have used the resort DJ? Any comments and feedback would be great! Thanks!
  7. The Riu does have a lot of stipulations - I've posted a thread on this with the wedding policies that they have. My impression from hearing about Dreams is that you have more options in terms of bringing in outside vendors and I think they only do one wedding per day only as opposed to the Riu that have a max of 3 wedding. I was initially going to go with Dreams but in terms of travel/accommodations cost for my guests, it is a few hundred dollars more expensive... so that was why we decided on the Riu. Also, we have many friends who have travelled to the resort and LOVED it - and I have some picky friends lol Also, a friend of mine JUST got married at the Riu Palace this past Friday and raved about it. The photographers we are hiring also did a wedding at the Riu this past March and also raved about the resort. But on the flip side, I hear very good things about the Dreams as well. I guess it depends on how much flexibility you want. Riu has a policy that 80% of your guests have to stay at the hotel...... good luck with your decision!
  8. Yes, it means the same as notorized. I haven't heard anything about sending it to the ambassy... I don't want to give out wrong advice, so I would double check with your WC if having it translated and then notorized by a lawyer is sufficient. Sounds like you're on track though!

  11. Hi there! I'm getting married in the Riu Palace so I think the requirements would be the same. If you go on their website and go into their wedding section and FAQ it lists what is required legally in terms of documentation for a legal ceremony. Here's the info for Cabo: Cabos 1. Birth Certificate* 2. Passport (for the couple) 3. Divorce Decree (People divorced with less than a year cannot get legally married)* 4. Death Certificate of previous partner (if applicable) 5. Tourist Card (provided in the Airport at your arrival to Mexico) 6. Blood test (They will be done at the resort, once you are in the hotel) 7. Passport or ID of your witnesses (Required 4 & they must be at least 18 years old) 8. Written parental consents for couples under 18 years (if applicable) 9. Legal Information Form (the on-site wedding coordinator will send it to you) *Apostilled and translated into Spanish It is not necessary to get the original, you can bring a Photocopy (over there they are going to put the seals) Please scan them and send them to the on-site wedding coordinator by e-mail at least 30 days prior the weding´s date. Note: Please bring your documents with the apostille or notarized seal with you. For the Birth Certificate, you require one with both parents names on it. This needs to be translated into Spanish and notorized. We just googled spanish consulate in our area and came across one. If you have your BC translated by them, they can notorize for you as well. It is advised to give yourself a lot of time to get this done before the wedding. If you have any other questions in terms of legal documentation requirement, I'd also suggest to email your WC.

  15. Thanks Melinda! I have also heard mixed reviews about the cake...that's why I'm thinking maybe I should keep it simple...but I'm not really a vanilla flavor kind of girl....but please let me know what you thought of the cakes!

  17. In regard to posts regarding outside photographers, you are allowed outside photographers. Check with you WC, from what we understand, and what we were told, since our photographers are staying at the hotel and are guests of the wedding, you are allowed outside vendors. We recently received a document on wedding policies, and in regard to outside photographers, it seemed to say that as long as they have purchased wedding passes for the day ($100/per person per day ) it was allowed.   19. Welcome to all Alberta brides! So far we have our date confirmed and have just started receiving and reading through wedding policies, reception options, etc. We're also having a friend design our wedding invites and we hope to have them printed and ready to go end up May (to give guests lots of time). We have send out STD emails and so far we got around 20-25 people who are planning on coming down to celebrate with us! We're very excited!!!!!

  22. We're getting married in March 2010 - I received some info from Daniella that you can't have a DJ at a semi-private event!! AND in order to close down the restaurant, you need at least 60 guests and you pay a fee of $1800...does anyone know why they stipulate 60 guests if you're paying an additional $1800? Thanks!

It's been really helpful reading this thread....my fiancee and I are both students who are just finishing up our studies and starting to work full-time again...we also have decided not to do a registry for a few reasons... a) doing a destination wedding, we understand the expense of coming down for our guests, there also may be a huge move in our future so from a practical sense, we can't take a lot with us esp. anything electrical as the outlets will be different. However, knowing our family and friends, they will insist on giving us a gift....that being said, we weren't sure if we should include an insert into our invites about gifts or just include something on our website...

We just got confirmation on our wedding date in March 2010 (Yeah!!) so now that wedding planning ball is rolling The WC sent us a list of their policies, and man there are a lot of stipulations!! I really wanted to hire another WC the day of the wedding as I heard mixed reviews about the WC onsite. But I guess, according to the policies, that's not an option. I also wanted to buy the extra bridesmaid bouquets in town since I found a flower show that is cheaper, but it looks like I can only bring outside flowers for the reception... I'm feeling a bit frustrated with this as there are so many restrictions!!! I wonder if we can bring a cake from an outside vendor...probably not.... Just feeling frustrated about this...
