hope you're feeling better JT!! I know, I'm not ready to part w/ my name so I'm ignoring this whole situation until I'm forced to deal with it, like in a year & a half when we move back to Chicago. Amymarie - crap! I hope your hair calms down and they get it right next time!! It'll work out! Amy & Di, I have it easy with the line-up. I didn't appoint a MOH cuz I have 2 best friends and a super close sister-in-law standing up with me. Two of the couples are married couples so by default my 3rd BM becomes 'MOH' & stands up with Paul's brother (best man). But, you could just go by height or whether they know eachother or not. And Amy, I think a card will be really nice & the moms will be so touched you thought of them! Maybe you guys could do a special toast to the moms at brunch too. We have some anniversaries & birthdays the day before and day of our wedding and I bought them all cards. No gifts, but people like to be remembered

I LOVE the 1st style on you, Di!! You're going to be gorgeous! I never would've known you have extensions in & the flower looks perfect! Kayley, that's hysterical! I bet you're going somewhere fun & gymnasticy (not a word, I know). Stripper pole dancing class? Have a great time!

Cassie your shoes are sooo cute! I LOVE the clips! -
I love this work-out! Did it again today and whenever I take time off and then come back to it, I always remember how much I love it. You just feel good afterward!

Woo Hoo Shannon! Have a great weekend and I hope your wedding & honeymoon are just perfect!! back to the name change thing (briefly) - I know, it's really no one's business what we do! So why does everyone have an opinion and why the heck are people so verbal about it? Amy, I don't think you're being weak at all! I really feel similarly to you so that's why I was so upset. While I don't hate his last name, I'd like to keep mine for my profession and just want to be able to choose when I want to change it (kids or just later) w/o being strong-armed. Whatever. It's done now so I'm of the mindset 'if I ignore it it'll go away' sort of thing. Sita, sounds like it'll be a great paper! Such a high-risk age group and I'm guessing there's lots of good research out there (drugs, STI's & other high-risk behavior). I'm skipping the whole bach party so I get to avoid this latest stressor. We'll have a girls night out in PV, but I'll probably just wear a sun dress. I have no doubt you girls will find adorable outfits to wear! Good luck on the hunt! Oh, & there's still a lot of work left on my dress. Made several changes from the original & it's gonna need a lot of her time so I have to go back around the 11th. Thanks again chicas! you all are the bestest! Hooray for our May girls!

Jenny - what a pain in the butt! Such a jerky move by the opposing counsel. I hope you get the case rescheduled! And good luck on your interview!! Fingers crossed for you

ooh, right, sorry Di! NP = nurse practitioner I know, I should've just stuck up for myself, which I'm mad at myself about. I think the woman was trying to be all jovial & light-hearted ("honey" this & "sugar" that) and I'm sure she just doesn't get why anyone would keep their name. After all, in her day you didn't even have the choice, which she kept telling me. Also "it's not rocket science, you just change your name!". Ugh. Whatever. I asked her how long I have to change my name & she said a year - so what, after a year I'll turn into a pumpkin? After a year my maiden name doesn't exist anymore? Who keeps track of that? I really don't get it. I think it's a NY state thing - being required to make the decision now and if you EVER want your name changed later to your spouse's last name you have to get re-married in the NY marriage bureau. I've never heard of this (I was married before in IL & know people in different states that haven't heard of this either).

Found my shoes BUT.....

Glad they fit! They're really cute! -
Thank you so much girls for all your words of support! It's nice to know you've all been there - misery loves company right? Sita, yep this was a woman. And I've had a similar experience with a few other professors - some of these academic types are ridiculous. Total power trips. Congrats on finishing this semester!! At least with classes done you can focus more on your thesis. What's the topic? I really want to work in a private office doing primary care. Before I went into nursing I worked in an internal medicine office as a manager and I really like the continuity of care and relationships you build with your patients. Our thesis can either be a project/intervention (with paper) or just research paper & we can work in groups of 3, which is nice. We chose to implement an early childhood literacy program at my clinical site (a family practice clinic) that provides each child a book at all of their well-child checks (it's a national US program called Reach Out & Read). It's definitely a challenge, but hopefully we can get this up & running. Chrissy - your professor sounds like my program director. She's never wrong & knows everything - just ask her. I just don't get why this profession is so full of that eat-your-young mentality! It really does a disservice. Cristini - That's so wonderful that you're a pharm professor! I had 2 really great pharm professors and I soooo appreciate that they really knew their stuff. And I know exactly what you mean about the email thing & I think you're exactly right - there's no way she would've said the same things to my face (or even on the phone). It's really easy to just hit send after typing a rant, but I would expect a little more from a PSYCH professor/practitioner! In class (family therapy) she tried to make excuses that she had had a bad day & realized it was a little harsh & that's when I said I felt it was unprofessional & inappropriate (it all surrounded me asking the TA to make copies of our presentation handout for the class, but only because he had offered to do so and had been making copies all semester for all of the groups. Unfortunately the prof didn't know that so she reacted really badly.) A little thought before hitting send goes a long way. Wow, having that kind of unstable boss sucks for your FI! Good for him for sticking up for himself! I'm sure that stopped her in her tracks and I hope she did 'grow up'. Ah well, thanks again girlies! Appreciate the camaraderie! Now, back to the wedding planning! Have my 2nd fitting today.

Show us your wedding dress!
KarenM replied to Jennifer's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Diane, Sita, Sungoddess, Wendy & Ange - you are all gorgeous!!! Seriously beautiful gowns! (Wendy I love the pockets too - that dress wasn't available when I was searching, but I just love it!) -
Hiya girls! So much to catch up on! Welcome to our new May crew *rant alert* I have had a miserable 24 hours. Went to get our marriage license yesterday AM and fought on the way. Great start. Then the stupid lady at the marriage bureau bullied me into checking the box that I'm changing my name, which I had already decided I don't want to change it professionally so I was going to keep it til we have kids. So then I'm crying in the bathroom at the marriage bureau b/c I'm so upset at the stupid woman who was condescending, judgmental, rude & totally inappropriate. Then last night one of my professors "yells" at me over email because of some miscommunication that was, in fact, an error on her part. I've never been chastised by email, especially by a professor, and this was particularly scathing - completely inappropriate & unprofessional (which I told her in class today). Then my program director wanted to meet with me (b/c somehow I've been appointed the FNP class rep) at 7 this morning, before our 8 am class, to discuss why too many people are showing up to our clinical site (um, DUH, because you placed too many of us there!!). She didn't show to our meeting and then when she did come, 45 min late, refused to listen to what I had to say. WTF?! I am so sick of dealing with crazy ass under-functioning people. Only 1 more week of this freaking semester. I will make it! sorry for the raving lunacy. I about lost my mind but I think I may still have 1/2 a cylinder left. ANYWAY, Sita - that's great you're getting your masters too! Wow is it a lot of work though. What's your specialty? btw I loved your planning thread! Your dress with the pink crinoline is gorgeous and I love your necklace! dianep - that's so nice that you'll sell/give your dress to another BDWer! I'm gonna go check out your dress I think the tanning thing is just one of those personal choices. I'm gonna go tanning too which I'm not thrilled about cuz I know how bad it is for your skin, but I also don't want to totally fry myself once I step off the plane. I have gone to mystic tan before & it actually worked really well, but I'm a little worried about doing it before we go b/c we'll be there 5 days before the wedding and I'm afraid it'll start sloughing off & get streaky from the salt water. Good to know about the Jergen's Amy!

Congrats Amy, everything looks amazing!! Great details everywhere & your dress is gorgeous on you! I remember your legal day thread - so so special to be able to have your grandpa there. I'm sure that meant the world to him. -
Officially got accepted to my doctor of nursing practice (DNP) program! woohoo!

btw Amy I love that pic from your fitting. It's really cute actually & hilarious that it was the only one taken at your final fitting

I would probably leave the tattoo out there, but I've heard dermablend works pretty well for tat's. A friend of mine uses it to cover hers up sometimes.

Paul's wearing that suit too! They had a different pic last year (w/ pink shirt), but it's the same Calvin Klein suit. We also got it on sale & love it! -
dianep - we're going tomorrow AM for our marriage license! I've been filling out the application online today. One more step closer!
