  1. I would think they'd be fine too...just pack them in the middle so that they do not snap and all glow is gone before the wedding!
  2. I think I read that another BDW member is giving her FI's kids small gold rings too. This way it is like the whole family is getting married I thought that was adorable. Especially if you engrave something on the inside of their rings...like the wedding date...the date you all became a family.
  3. We used Vista Print and opted for a postcard theme: 100 postcards as Save-the-Dates 100 Oversized postcards as invitations 100 "Boarding Call" RSVPs 100 "Resort Cards" - we included a postcard on the resort to whet guest appetites 100 STD magnets -guests loved these! 100 "Passports" - notecards that we called "Passport to Paradise" to insert it all cards into 250 "Contact Cards"- business cards that we put our personal contact info, website and email addresses on 100 return envelopes 100 mailing envelopes International and domestic postage for 100 invitations Large palm tree stamp from Michaels Aqua and gold stamp pads 9 rolls of aqua satin ribbon to tie it all together 120 Martha Stewart aqua coloured crystals as embellishments - added an extra air of class Not bad at all for $350! They were creative and packed full of information. We got millions of compliments! We even had some people call us to RSVP...they said they loved the response card so much they were keeping it!

My questions to you is, when you change out of your wedding dress into a smaller dress are you going to put your wedding dress back on after the dance or are you just going to finish the night out with the short fun dress? I am debating this because I feel like I should get my money out of my wedding dress, but at the same time our dance would look so much better with a short sexy number on. I agree...because the Argentine tango has a lot of foot work, it will be lost under my wedding gown...not to mention make me trip! And to dance all night in my wedding gown may take work...the train is chapel length. So...(and I am thinking this through as I write) it makes sense to leave our first dance until later in the night...perhaps one hour before the end of the reception or the very last thing we do before leaving the reception. I can slip out (brides need to go to the bathroom change and then do the dance, finishing the last hour of the reception in a shorter dress that is less constricting for me or leaving in the shorter dress right away. That way I get mileage out my wedding gown...and tango in something more comfortable and realistic. Our wedding is on the final night of our trip...the grand finale! So to end our wedding week with our first dance as husband and wife would be very symbolic...and cool!
  5. FI and are planning a dramatic Argentine Tango...the dance of passion... think Antonio Banderas with that girl in the black dress in that movie...oh, what's it called? The one where he teaches street kids to dance? We want to make it intense and theatrical. We are going to wear white masks and I am changing into a short, slant cut white dress. We have chosen an R&B song to dance to...let's hope it all goes well! Perhaps you should consider dance lessons? Depending on when your wedding is, you can begin soon and learn a few social ball room dances...cha-cha or swing...just the basic steps can help you choreograph something fabulous...
  6. Part Two has posted...I did it 3 minutes after Part One... Same title, but it says #2 at the end....
  7. I am not having bridesmaids, but an all-child wedding party. We just bought 6 white outfits for our nieces and nephews, who will be flowergirls, ring and bible bearers. This decision came out of the fact that we did not want anyone to feel pressured to attend our wedding - if we made them a part of the wedding party, they may have felt obligated to go. I also did not want the stress of picking fabric and having dresses made to fit everyone's body type or shopping for dresses that fit everyone's ideas and preferences. However, if you choose easy going people, this may not be a problem. As people were spending the $ to come with us, we did not want to add the burden of buying outfits as well. We are having approx. 35 guests...and I think the kids (ages 3 - 10) will look adorable...please just pray no one needs a nap
  8. We should have no more than 54...29 have already booked and the other 25 are waiting...

  11. Thanks so much! How did you find that exactly? Still new and manoeuvering my way around...
  12. Just trying to get a sense of averages and wondered what everyone else's group rate is/was. How much are your guests paying to attend your wedding and have you gotten any grief about it? I'll go first...my guests are paying approximately $1500 taxes in....5 star resort. (If this topic already exists somewhere, please let me know...the search function does not work for me...)

  14. 3) instead of getting my makeup done at the resort salon i'm going to Mac or Sephora and getting a make over done with my MOH watching. i think they're free but you might have to buy some minimum amount of make up. don't quote me on that cuz i haven't gone yet. lol. then i'll buy the make up they use and have my MOH do my wedding makeup Me too! I have checked this out. In Toronto, it must be the MAC counters in The Bay stores only. You pay $55 for a private makeup session with one oof their artists. The $55 dollars you have spent then goes toward any makeup you want to purchase, like the products she just used on you! So it's actually a free make up lesson with a pro and some great product to recreate the look for your wedding day! If it is not in the Bay, the MAC store only gives you the lesson and a free mascara...not $55 worth of product. Another tip: have it done on the day of your shower, boudoir session or some other occassion close to the wedding...why let a professional job go to waste?

  16. Are the parasols from Oriental Trading or somewhere else?
  17. Another tip for brides near Toronto: There is a wedding gown store on Orfus Road called Your White Dress. All of their gowns are $299 and they do have a decent selection. I will say this: much will depend on your taste. They do not have any/many frilly, princess designer gowns with crystal beading. Mind you, I did see the most beautiful gown that I would have bought in a heart beat if I were an Ivory Bride...but I want pure white. The styles are simpler, but nice for a simple destination wedding all the same. They would also be great for a TTD. www.yourwhitedress.com They don't show much on the site, but if you can visit the store, it may be worth it.
  18. Interested in the glass vases for the orchids...how tall are they?
  19. Very true. I have two guests bringing random dates and this is fine with me. I agree that they are giving time and money to this wedding..they should travel with whom they please. My original post referred to someone with whom I have a negative history...hmmm, perhaps that is another thread....
  20. So this thread has really made me think - and now I am putting on blush to go to The Bay as we speak! I originally said no registry...but then I got to thinking...our guests will want to give us gifts as they have already been asking. We do need money and from close friends or family, I think this is what we will get. But from others with whom we are not as close or have professional relationships...money would feel inappropriate. For example, we invited FI's boss. They have a close but professional relationship. A gift of money wouldn't feel right in this instance. I am a teacher. My colleagues and students would not feel right about money either...and neither would I. So I think there are some relationships where the appropriate gift is a set of towels...not 5 twentys. Having said this, I am off to The Bay. We already have a lot, but I plan to think in "house guest/ dinner party" terms. So I guess we could use fluffy Egyptian cotton towels, sheet sets for the spare room, a set of crystal stemware for dinner parties, or a nice frame to display our wedding photo. We will also request gift cards. Just a few items to make it easier on those who want to give us something tangible.
  21. Not at all! I started planning 13 months early. The great thing about starting early is that you have time to think! You can window shop and peruse magazines and try things on with no pressure. So grab a pen, a friend and get started! (What are you still reading for? Get to it! )
