  1. THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! You girls are so amazing (and you look so great in your dresses!!). I really really appreciate it. It's tough for me to know... I had lap-band surgery last August, so I'm on my way down, I just don't know what its going to look like when I get there. I'm planning on being a size 12/14 by September but people keep asking me what type of dress I am going to get... its... kinda... well... yeah. I read the "suggestions" and they say that mermaid dresses are for tall super skinny size 2 girls... but then I look at the dresses and think "it doesn't have to be that way... I bet normal girls can wear them too. Here's the dress I am looking at: Moonlight Valerie Couture Wedding Dresses - Style H9906 [H9906] - $990.00 : Wedding Dresses, Prom Dresses, and Designer Wedding Dresses It's a mermaid dress, but does have an overlay, so I think it is a bit more forgiving than other mermaid dresses.
  2. This is going to sound really odd, so I apologize in advance. I really want to see a picture of a gal (a real bride would be great) who is a street size 12/14 wearing a mermaid style dress. It's nearly impossible to do a search for it anywhere... so I thought I'd come here and see if any of you are a size 12/14 and wore a mermaid style dress and would be willing to point me in the direction of some of your pictures. Bonus points if you are 5'5-5'7. I found a really pretty mermaid style dress and I must have it... but I am not going to actually try on dresses until September (my wedding isnt until Feb 2010) because I'm in the process of losing a bunch of weight. I just want to know that I'm not wasting my dream on a dress that likely wont look good on me. On another note... if anyone wants to be ambitious, I bet you could make a lot of money in advertising ect (however people make money from websites) if you wanted to start a website that featured photos of real girls in dresses at varying heights/sizes/types. They have those websites that have the "virtual" girls that you can plug height/weight in to and get a virtual you... but I want a website that has real girls. Ok, ending my weird post....
  3. It's been so long since I posted...I'm in hurry up wait mode since we signed the contract in September. It's been an 8 month journey so far and I have a little more than a year left. EEP! All this talk about receptions and cocktail parties got me thinking about what I want for a private function...Soo.... Just a quick question about tables... I know that if you do a private function, there is a "basic" setup that is included (white linens, ect). Does anyone know or have a doc that details out the "basic setup"? Also... do you know if we can have our choice between round tables and rectangular? I'm guessing this is something you hash out in the meeting like 3 days before the wedding, but I'd like to know so I can design my centerpieces/tablescape accordingly.
  4. Have you tried ordering the free samples from Vista Print? It was helpful to me to see all their products and options ... and they got it to me quickly. I don't see why you couldn't print menu cards on postcards -- the post cards are glossy on one side and matte on the other... I would do your logo/ect on the glossy side and the actual menu on the other. Don't pay for the postcards though... you can almost always find them for free. If you want long and slender menu cards, look at their RACK CARDS as an option. If those don't suit your fancy, try making a mock up of what you want, in the size that you want and measure it... chances are you can find a blank product with the cardstock in the size you want.
  5. Hey Myen, I tell my guests that inquire about other resorts that: 1. If they stay off the property, it will cost them about 100 dollars each to come to the wedding and the welcome dinner/entertainment. 2. The resort has a specific percentage of people that HAVE to stay on site for you to have your wedding there (I don't know exactly what it is... but I think it is 85%)... I tell my guests 90%. ... for the guests that are REALLY concerned with the costs... I suggest they stay 3 nights at MP and then go find a bargin basement place elsewhere for after the wedding. I have a good majority of our guests that prefer it that way... especially those with timeshares, ect. They get to be a part of the wedding festivities... and then they get to have a vacation. I'm still working on a cost comparison... I just got back from a surgery, so I had to put it on hold. I'll keep working on it and see what I can come up with in the next week.
  6. I learn the most interesting things on this forum... first digital perm now eyebrow threading. Thanks ladies
  7. That's a great email. Can you add a sentence or two about why specifically you want to work for them, "During our conversation, you mention x, y, and z -- which alligns perfectly with my personal and professional goals. It would be an honor to work for your organization." Ect... if you can recount something personal from the conversation, it will stand out to them even more. Other than that... I think you did a great job. Good luck!
  8. Yum. You can make a polenta pizza too... Just cook the polenta in the microwave and then press it in to the bottom of a round pre-sprayed cake pan. Bake or broil until crunchy and then carefully flip out of the pan on to a cookie sheet and broil the other side until slightly brown. I take marinara and mix it with chicken (I know, avoid chicken), spinach, and a little ricotta... mix it up... and put it on the polenta round... then crumbled feta cheese over the top and broil until the cheese melts. Its a "eat with a fork" type pizza if you load it down like I did... but I'm sure you can make it an "eat wit your hands" if you wanted to. Tip with ground chicken or turkey... I always take a beef boilon cube and crack it into the pan with the turkey/chicken as it cooks... and then add whichever seasoning (marianra sauce, taco seasoning, ect). It makes it have a richer flavor and a color that can fool most FI's.

Our guest list was at 260 people and there was no way to cut it down (my mom has 12 siblings and I have over 40 first cousins). With having a DW we kept the invite list the same but are only expecting 30-50 guests instead of the 180-200 we were expecting had we gotten married here. (and it's SIGNIFICANLY cheaper to get married in Mexico than in NY or NJ!). Basically, the people we never see are not going to go to Mexcio, but they would come if we got married here. I wonder if that's part of the reason we don't mind so much lol Dez, that's EXACTLY why we decided destination wedding. Average wedding in Seattle is about 30k... the cheapest estimate I could get was 25, and that was really cutting corners in areas I didn't want to cut. He has such a HUGE family... and they are ALL local... we'd have 350 on the invite list and MOST of them would show up. People (ie, my dad) kept telling me to "cut the guest list" and I kept asking which one of his brother's he didnt want me to invite.
  10. Just make sure to play plenty of Jimmy Buffet and have kosher dill pickles. MMM. Jimmy Buffett makes any party better.
  11. Oh man, you guys are totally not weird. I don't have a ton of advice for the uninvited guest threads because the only people I don't want coming are people who will cause problems (like ex's ect)... other than that... I love meeting new people and its going to be a blast to have a big party down in Mexico. We are going to do a pre-party thing too... It's going to be a tropical theme and we are going to call it "Cheeseburgers in Paradise" and do burgers and maragritas. Keep the attitude of hospitality.
  12. Hey Emaya, I am getting married Feb 2010 and we are sending our first round of announcements out ASAP (likely by the end of the month). That gives our guests about a year and a half. We are asking everyone to get us their email addresses and we'll send email updates every once in a while between sending our STDs and our regular invites. This will be to alert folks of things like airfare being published, tours being offered, ect... much like a wedding newsletter. Our regular invites will go out around the beginning of December 2009 (so about 2.5 months prior to the wedding) but will likely only serve as an "announcement" as I am guessing (hoping) most of our guests will be booked and ready by then. As for the airfare, you can explain to them (if they don't already know) that airfare is not published until like 330 days prior. Expedia does have a cool tool that can give you historical prices to help you out... To find it, go to Expedia.com and then click on the FLIGHTS tab at the top. In the middle column, about in the middle of the page, you'll see a "find the best time to go." Click on that and fill in the information. As for the 1400 dollar sticker price... I am going to be compiling information for my FI's family -- a cost comparison chart of sorts... so they can see what an average vacation to Cancun does cost so they can make the decision on what to do. I firmly believe MP is an excellent value and after all the research I did in picking a resort, I want to save them the hassle and give them a hassle free vacation. Good luck!
  13. Me too! I am a 2010 bride -- Feb 13. The other thread is HUGE and has tons of info
  14. I haven't figured out timing or anything... but I really want everyone to walk down the aisle to the song Be My Music by Cait Agus Sean. It is beautiful.

It sounds like there is a lot going on in Miami, stuff that potentially could lead to a great experience for everyone -- all around. Good luck in your new endeavors.
  16. Oh wow. Most of that information on me is on facebook/myspace... Even the ex-boyfriend thing... I posted a blog with the nicknames of them "i love you like i love hockey guy" and "lets make alien babies guy" and "body builder jerk" I'm gonna need something harder to help limit a guest list. "What color are my sheets?" "Do I prefer grilled, BBQ, or smoked chicken better?" "Am I secretly a fan of the MacBook?" "Which musical instrument do I destest the sound of?" ...there. That does it.

  18. Oh, I'll kick him out of bed when we are married. We don't live together or sleep in the same bed now. He'd be in trouble. I'm going to make that boy go get a sleep test. I can't have him not going to work. I mean... once in a while is... well... no one is perfect. But once or more per week. There is something wrong.
  19. OOOH! I voted for Renny for America's player. I think she would be so good!
  20. He has 4 alarms. Two of them are across the room. I'm not denying that nutrition could help...but he doesn't want to believe it has anything to do with anything.
  21. Oh, I forgot to mention that on the weekends he can sleep 14-16 hours a day... and still not wake up rested.
  22. So I wasn't sure where to post this... but you ladies seem to know everything, so I thought I'd throw this out there. My FI is a busy guy... aside from working full time, he goes to school, manages me (I'm a lot of work), is trying to become a competitive ballroom dancer, is trying to live in community with folks at church, and is trying to manage family drama. It's a lot of work. He is able to phyiscally do it because he works 6:00am to 2:30pm. Problem is... he is late to work at least once a week, sometimes more... and the rest of the time he wakes in such a panic that he never has a good morning. He constantly oversleeps his alarm... or turns them off in his sleep. At one point, I set my alarm and would call him to wake him up because I was working a similar schedule... this has stopped working cause he "doesn't hear his phone." He is on the verge of getting fired for poor attendance... which, makes sense... showing up anywhere from 15minutes to 2 hours late once a week isn't acceptable. Any ideas on what could help him? A lifestyle change is going to be rough cause he has to work and go to school... but ... yeah. It's a sticky situation. When I was in college I had to do the same thing... and while those years sucked, I could still wake up because I was running on determination to get through to the end of the tunnel.
  23. Does this work? I'll eventually get a picture up too, I've just been too lazy to resize it.
