  1. That's awesome! Have a great time while you're here!

Our photographer is my brother's GF and she is jazzed about the whole thing too! I'm headed out to Winnipeg to visit my MOH this weekend and get her dress (hopefully!) - hope it's not too cold! I've been trying to check that post but it won't let me look at it! Weird. Is there anything you would like from me while you're in Winnipeg? I have those brochures and some left-over OOT bag stuff. It's actually pretty warm here right now, just REALLY icy!
  3. I made my album on iphoto through their store. It was super easy, only took me an hour. If you have iphoto on your computer you just drag the photos from there. The book only cost $29.99 for a hardcover. It was shipped to me within 7 days, no rush shipping.
  4. I didn't actually see a single mosquito while we were there, other than our rehearsal on the beach at dusk. I did end up with a lot of bites though. At one point I had 14 bites on one foot! Definitely make sure your guests pack repellent and after bite. I think we got most of the bites at the restaurants during that short dusk time. I didn't find the reception on the beach to be worse than any other night for mosquitos.
  5. I had my sister/MOH deliver it. I wish our photog would have been there although my DH is very weird about people watching him open gifts. I was also a little worried there would be just a hint of jealousy b/c it was our wedding photographer who took the BD photos. In the end it all turned out great, DH loved the photos and all was well. We did have to look at them again later when he didn't feel so rushed.
  6. I think it will be beautiful with your dark hair and the red flowers! I was worried about the wind and the veil too. We ended up tucking the veil into the back of my dress for some of the photos but you couldn't tell and it just kept it under control a little better.

Where did you get your sand frame? I still haven't gotten one. It was actually an old frame I've had forever. You can often find them at places like Hallmark, Urban Barn, and home decorating store. It has three glass panels and the sand and photos just stick in between.
  8. Hey Ladies, I finally posted my planning thread! I think only one more "for sale" thread left to do! Can't wait to check out all the stuff from your weddings. http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t36939
  9. Wow, sorry about all the different sizes of photos, 10 months and I still haven't got this all figured out
  10. OOT Bags – I didn’t get a good pic of the bags when they were completed but here’s what was inside. Travel mugs Spanish phrase books Travel Candles Key/Money holders Body lotion/shampoo/conditioner Immodium and Ibuprofin Meet the guests pamphlet And lots more! Bridesmaids Bags Garter – My DH is a huge Canucks fan, he loved this! I’ve posted a couple photos of our wedding and TTD but you can see a larger teaser gallery at Welcome to DanHarperPhotography.com Well ladies, I hope I haven’t forgotten too much. Everything worked out better than I could imagine it was. It was an awesome day with a lot of thanks to all of you!
  11. Flowers – I ordered my flowers from <company name removed> and was completely and totally in love with them! Resort: Playa Pesquero, Holguin Cuba A friend of mine got married there last January and every since seeing her photos I’ve been in love with this resort. Everything was wonderful and we had a blast there! Ceremony Décor – I really wanted a lot of green and nothing too girly for the arch. Reception Inspiration – Martha Stewart Pom Poms and Luminaries I ended up only using the luminaries but I loved how it ended up. Postcard Invitations – These were made by a friend of ours and the photo was taken by Nathaniel from BDW Prewedding Mailout - I also made luggage tags but I don’t have a picture of them.
  12. Okay, so I’ve been home from my wedding for a couple weeks now and I’m finally sitting down to write my planning thread. Thanks to all of you ladies for your help, support, and ideas! I will admit right now that I’m terrible at remembering where I found things so if you see something that was your idea, feel free to take the credit! Here goes… The rings. We had them made by a local designer and I totally love them! Engagement photos by Dan Harper Bridesmaid Dresses – I originally chose some little sundresses by J Crew but was convinced they weren’t perfect. We decided to go with these from Davids Bridal, in chocolate brown, and the girls looked SO beautiful in them. (excuse my hideous tan lines and weird face) My Wedding Dress – Davids Bridal Wedding Accessories Sandals – Aldo Shoes. Necklace and bracelet – I made myself. I had a necklace made but changed my mind at the last minute. Veil and sparkly headband Groomsmen Attire – The boys picked their own outfits from Island Importer. They were comfy and they suited the boys really well. Groomsmen Shoes – Reef Sandals (They were really cool with a pen and paper holder inside the sandal!)

Thanks so much, I am also speechless when I look at those photos. He had those together for us 3 days after we got back from Cuba. By the end of the month he said he'll have about 700 more!!! We were really so happy, the whole wedding was just magical. Just remember that all the planning will be crazy but the day of will be so magical that any little flaw will seem like nothing as long as you remember the big picture.

I would love to see them! Thank-you! You can check out all my wedding photos at Welcome to DanHarperPhotography.com K'osh who did you book through? I'm having a hard time getting rates for 2010 and getting my resort booked? Thanks again guys!! CHEERS! I booked through TA Linsday from this site. She did a really great job! And we got a good price too!
  15. I didn't hear anything about free weddings either. Maybe if you eat in one of the a la carte restaurants? We had a symbolic ceremony (300 CUC) and the beach BBQ reception (30 CUC p/p) The total in Canadian dollars was just under $2000 for 35 people.

It was good because then no one could stand in front of you. Just curious. Did you have a great time? They did have to move the wedding area. Apparently the tree they used to use was destroyed in the hurricane. The new spot is a little further down the beach on not quite so busy. We had an amazing time! Everything was so perfect. Thanks for all of your help and advice along the way!
  17. I love the whole thing! It is so extremely flattering on you!

  19. You should, they do a fantastic job and it will be absolutely beautiful!
  20. I bought the flowers from Angels Accents but they're for sale if you want them Also, we asked for coursages and boutenniers from the resort and neither ended up arriving at the resort at all. It was a very good thing I had brought my own flowers! I did bring ribbon for the cake though. We just had a plain white cake with flowers on the top. I would skip the ribbon b/c it looked like they really didn't know what to do with it anyway. If you're interested in the luminaries I have light pink, fuscia, and white bags left. They turned out super pretty on the tables! The resort hair dresser was pretty good, she seems nervous at first but she did a great job. I brought pics with me. She did my hair and all three of the BM's, she even put real flowers in their hair!

Congrats! Haha, good observation! The funny thing is our photographer does a TON of band photos. My husband met him when they were shooting photos for his second album.
  22. 1. Is there a DJ for the ceremony/reception? Do you get a chance to talk with them (either directly or through Yaly) regarding your music? My plan was to make a cd for the ceremony itself and perhaps a few songs for our reception (first dance, etc) There is a dj for the reception. I didn't get to talk to the musicians about the ceremony but they did a great job and we had them bring speakers and put a friend of our in charge of playing the special songs on the ipod for when we started walking down the aisle. They have the connectors for the ipod. We just used playlists and ipods for the reception but there was a dj there if we needed him. 2. Did you all bring your own decorations? If not, is there a fair selection of decorations available at the resort? I'm concerned about the wedding arch itself (beach ceremony) and the reception (beach bbq). Are there centrepieces, etc. available? I just asked Yaly to do the arch with lots of green and some of the bright pink flowers. She used real bright pink petals for the aisle. They only have a red runner/carpet. For the reception I made luminaries and brought votive candles. If you ask Yaly, she might be still have them. We also brought fake flower petals. I did go and check on the reception set-up in the afternoon. It was a good thing too b/c they didn't do anything I asked. There were even black candles on the cake table! And these crazy orange fabric hearts on the sand. Be VERY specific! I would maybe do a mock up and take pictures. They also have white linen napkins which are nicer than the green ones they normally use. 3. Do you finalize your menu once you get to the resort? How did you find the food? The menu was exactly what they wrote in the description of the beach BBQ. It was one of the best meals we had all week!! 4. Are there some fun excursions around Holguin itself? I do know about the swimming with the dolphins and the jeep safari but am wondering if there is anything else to do off the resort. I have a pamphlet laying out all the excursions, I will try to remember to send it to you tonight. There is a little train that goes into holquin every morning too. Not much to do off the resort though. 5. Is there a fun nightclub at the resort for me and my MOH to go to the night before the wedding? I'm not big into nightlife but for my last night as a single woman, I might as well let my hair down.... There is a little disco. Some nights it's pretty decent, some nights really empty. If you have lots of girls with you though you can totally make a blast of it! 6. Will my appliances (hair dryer, camera charger) work at the resort without a converter? We tried with and without a converter and couldn't get anything to work. Some rooms got lucky with some appliances but it would be smart to plan on nothing working. Also bring a battery powered alarm!! and let your guests know to bring digital watches with alarms. There is only one clock at the whole resort and wake up calls only worked about 25% of the time. We were constantly confused about the time! If you have any other questions, fire away!
  23. Here's the link to some of our TTD photos. http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t36206
  24. Our TTD session was really short because we just plain ran out of time and light. Here's a couple but you can see more at: Welcome to DanHarperPhotography.com in the Graeme and Connie album, at the end.
