not having Attendants?
blkladylaw replied to mexico2009's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
I am having 55 guests and we are not having any. I have 3 close girlfriends who have assisted with planning and are throwing my shower. I have gifts I got for them and am acknowledging them in a Special Thanks section of my program. I've thought about getting them corsages but not sure yet. It is more drama than it is worth I think and less planning I have to do around that. No rehearsal dinner. No covering anyone's hotel rooms. No picking dresses etc. No worrying about people being places on time. I just want them to come in whatever they want to wear and have a good time. They will be there up front with my family...I'll just hand whoever is closest the bouquet and he will have his mom or Uncle hand him the ring from the front row. No big deal. I've never understood the need for bridal parties anyway. Part of why I wanted a DW was because I wanted simplicity...and that is what I am having. -

Then the front page had our names and welcome to the wedding of... the last page said thank you for coming and a repeat invite to join us at the reception (since they had to go elsewhere). I am working on my program now...I originally was not going to do them as I have no attendants, I think most people know the order of a typical wedding and we are not doing anything special (no unity candles, etc), its only 50-55 people who mainly know each other. But then I considered that I could do some affordable ones for about $100 or so and in the grand scheme of my budget that is like spare change lol so what the heck. I think it would be a nice place to acknowledge my grandpas recent funeral last month, to have a special thanks section for my cousin who is a wedding planner and is being my day of coordinator (as I didnt hire one) and for 3 of my girlfriends who are throwing my bridal shower and have been an ear of advice and support throughout. I think it is worth it for those acknowledgements. I'll also list our parents and my grandma and brother and a brief order of ceremony. THANKS for the reminder about the reception! I have all this info on my wedding website but forget that many folks do not have email so this will be helpful to have here. My reception is a short walk away on a yacht they will be able to see from the Chapel so I'm not as concerned about that (and probably not a good idea to mention it as some who may be attending the wedding as friends of folks who just wanted to join on vacation but were not guests of my guests or invited may take the mention of the reception on the program as an invite to come to the reception!) but I definitely want to make mention of the after party we are having in a VIP section at a club in Vegas. Many may not be aware and it is open to everyone no limit on budget as it is a fixed cost. Good idea...off to add this now... Yes i'm sneaky!!! His grandparents can't make the trip so I have a section titled Special Guests Who Could not Attend and am listing their names (probably for the best as I was worried about the religious wording of the ceremony as his grandma is deeply Jehovahs Witness and I wasn't sure what is OK and what is not..now I don't have to worry). here is my memorial for my grandpa who just passed... My grandpa passed recently...I am adding this to the end of my program. He got to meet my fiance in December when he came home with me for Christmas, hence the reference to that. I am also doing a section called Special Guests Who Could Not Attend to list my fiance's grandparents who can't make the long flight and are elderly. ---------- In Memoriam I know you are smiling down on us today Granddaddy. Valley of the Fire Weddings Thread
blkladylaw replied to pawfectchis's topic in Destination Weddings in Las Vegas
Mine is at Lake Las Vegas in Henderson Nevada and I am going to book transport for my guests soon. The concierge at Ritz Carlton at Lake Las Vegas gave me a referral of one-way from the Lake to the Strip of $154 with AWG Tansportation Company for their 35 passenger bus. -

blkladylaw replied to blkladylaw's topic in Buy / Sell / Trade Archives
This dress is a popular choice for weddings. Recently Tadashi received this letter from a lovely women who wore this Tadashi gown for her silver wedding anniversary, which took place in Tel Aviv, Israel. Thanks for the input. The Kahala is my favorite from what I have seen so far. I don't want to be in the middle of Waikiki madness as I already live in a hectic city and we are staying in Vegas a few days beforehand (though the wedding day will be at a very non-Vegas serene setting of Lake Las Vegas). I want serene and secluded and the fiance wants city action so it is compromise to stay close to Waikiki but a few minutes away from the heart of it. I am also looking at renting homes in Kahala, Hawaii Kai and DiamondHead areas. It is actually cheaper or equal than some of the $500+/nt rooms I'd want at the Kahala and some of the MTV cribs style homes have our own private pool, jacuzzi, lavish bathrooms with large tubs, fancy showers, etc. and have a very romantic setting. I have a couple of homes that I like right now that the owners have availability and may book part of my time at a home and then part of it at a lower end hotel.

I have 3 close friends who have been supporting me and planned my bridal shower. I do not have bridesmaids though. I am giving them these Dolce and Gabbana earrings from Overstock.com. I had an extra % off coupon so they were pretty reasonable. They were also at SmartBargains.com

They are at Zappos and Endless.com. Posted them on my blog just a second ago.... hautelegaldiva.blogspot.com -

Here are some Louboutins I am considering but price is kind of steep for flats, which is funny because I don't seem to mind paying it for heels! -
I am thinking about using these fuschia flower balls for centerpieces. Not sure yet (though I already ordered)...may just do a small vase of fresh fuschia roses or gerbera daisies instead....its about $125 more which in the scheme of the budget isn't much. Though I could sell the silk flower balls afterwards and get money back. Silk Kissing (Pomander) Balls

Does anyone know of a good appetite supressant?
blkladylaw replied to Celina's topic in Beauty, Exercise, Diet
I am on Phentermine. I have used it before when my weight got overboard to boost a major initial loss of weight as I started a weight loss plan. First time I used it was in law school when I ballooned after my first year (lots of pizza while studying). I dropped 20 in a month (probably too fast I know but I was well into the 200s) that time and another 40 the next 6 months or so with exercise and diet. The quick initial loss helped with exercising because I put less stress on my body with less weight during cardio which made it easier for me to work out. Well fast forward almost 10 yrs later and I surpassed the weight that I was at back then when I started....and I have the wedding coming up and a form fitting dress...yikes! So I decided to get serious and I went to my doc for Phentermine again back in April. He also put me on some thyroid meds as my numbers were a lil low and he said it would help boost my metabolism some. In April I dropped about 18 lbs. without trying much at all. I am now down about 30 lbs. as of today. As I experienced before the effect slows down after the big initial loss without effort in diet and exercise also. It still does help control my eating I think just not as much. I actually have to remember to eat because I just don't feel hungry and when I do the thought of some of my unhealthy favorites turns my stomach. I find myself desiring fresher food while on the pills. I'd like to drop another 15-20 before the wedding and I am putting more days a week into the gym, using the Nintendo Wii Fit game, going for walks with the fiance, and trying to drink only water, limit carbs and do more fruit/veggies and less snacks which is my vice. My days have been ranging from 800 - 1300 calories. My ring is now falling off my finger so I am gonna have to get a ring guard. It is safe but be sure to get checked by a doctor. If any history of heart issues it is probably not a good choice as it speeds up your heart rate. Many docs require an EKG exam first. It is also for short term use... I don't recommend taking it for more than 5-6 months. Also no caffeine while taking these. -
May not be what you are seeking but the 40/40 club at the Palazzo had a great outdoor patio. Lots of lounge couches, plasma screens to show a DVD of pics, private bathrooms, etc. Not sure about their menu or a change of the setup for a sit down dinner reception though. It would be perfect for cocktails/light food. I checked it out last month in person and loved it.

My doc put me on Levexoy...?? can't remember the name. He knew I was trying to lose weight for the wedding and said my thyroid numbers were a lil low but not bad. He told me to try it to see if it helped. He also gave Phentermine for a appetite suppressant. I'm down 27 lbs since I started it in April...though with exercise 2 days a week and watching my food intake also. I need to up my exercise though to more days.

Need help finding Manolos!!!
blkladylaw replied to adrianna28's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Love these. I have them in silver and also in a teal/red paisley. They also have a bronze out right now in addition to the pink/raspberry, purple and black. I saw those blue ones but they sold out online quickly. I'm waiting on the pink and purple ones right now. Love the Sedaraby! -
I have a lot to do still. Still need to get appraisals for and insure rings. Need to make a photo presentation to music to play during reception. Need to make music CDs for reception music. Need to book honeymoon hotel. Need to figure out what I am doing with my hair and makeup. Arrange for transportation for guests back to Vegas strip from Lake Las Vegas. Figure out my undergarments/girdle. Finalize plans with the pastor and finalize which vows we will use. Make a list of shots I want for the photographer. I don't have a bridal party but I need to find some gifts for friends who have helped me. And think of who will handle little things like giving tips, who will deal with vendors, how my things will get to and from the bridal changing suite at the chapel, etc. And of course lose more weight and send final payments. I'm sure there is more I am forgetting.

I've dropped 22 lbs so far...I'd like to drop more before the wedding and slim down my arms and stomach. I always try to avoid showing my arms but with a wedding dress that is kind of hard to avoid. Plus it will be hot so even though I have found some bolero jackets that might work it would be too warm for them. I don't really feel comfortable in it yet...it is tighter than I'd like even with the weight lost so far. I don't like a-line on me as I think it makes me look larger and I didn't want a traditional looking dress so it was hard finding something. Now if I could wear black I'd have a multitude of dress options but I think my mom would have a heart attack! White just seems to show everything. I'm remembering why I have so little of it in my closet.

The whole point of going away was to have a small intimate group of folks closest to us. I just got back from a funeral and now everyone in the family knows about the wedding...people I haven't seen or spoken to in years....distant cousins etc. I now have several additional people that have heard "Vegas" and are trying to come and some are even wanting to make it a "girls week away" and bring their friends and others I do not know. I am finding that the Vegas location is inspiring a lot of people to want to come and hang out and bring their friends, neighbors, etc.! And I have to say I am not doing very good and figuring out how to say 'no'. I now have over 10 extra guests that I did not invite....$1200+ extra dollars and we are paying for it ourselves.
