  1. Trip Advisor seems to be a good place to check out photos of resorts. It also has reviews. The photos are from previous guests...so you can get a good idea of what it really looks like. Here is a link to the Riu Negril: Riu Negril ClubHotel (Negril, Jamaica) - Resort Reviews - TripAdvisor There is also a Riu Tropical Bay in Negril: Riu Tropical Bay (Negril, Jamaica) - Resort Reviews - TripAdvisor FYI - The Negril is a Club hotel and the Tropical Bay is a Classic. Hope this helps
  2. Yah, congrats from another Feb Riu Jamaica bride. We will be at the Riu Montego Bay. I'm just like you...not sure what to do next
  3. I can't believe it! I'm so happy!! WoooHooo! When we book our trip they told us that we couldn't get a wedding date confirmation until the resort officially opened. Well they must have changed things, because they e-mailed me today and told me my time and date. I just filled out the online forms and got the confirmation voucher. We are set for Feb 28, 2009 at Noon...what I wanted. It felt a little up in the air before, but now it feels very real. Now I have to figure out what to do next.
  4. Thanks ladies, this is exactley what I was looking for. I'll have to head to Sephora this weekend and see if I can sample some. Woohoo! trip to the makeup store
  5. I am looking for some good suggestions on brands to try of tinted moisturizer. Summer is almost here and I have been thinking of trying one instead of my normal foundation every day. I do have the requirement that it must have a good SPF. I got a free sample of Nivea’s, but it’s SPF is only 4, not high enough for me. So does anyone have any good suggestions? I prefer brands like drug store brands, but am willing to splurge on a Dept store brand if it’s a really good one.
  6. I'm a Navy Brat and come from a large military family. My Pop and his brothers were all military. I also know the huge sacrifices military families make and want to give my thanks. I can't imagine what it must be like to be a military wife right now. They have my upmost appriciation.
  7. It might not be dental or food related. There is a bacteria that some people have problems with that lives on the tounge. If it is more of a sulpher like smell... that might be the cause. No matter how much you brush your teeth, pop mints and gum, or change your diet, it'll still be there. The 2 things that seem to work beast for this type of problem is gargaling hydrogen peroxide or the using a tounge cleaning system like BreathRX. Maybe you could a kit like BreathRX on thier desk? That way no one would know who left it and they should get the hint?
  8. I don't know if you have ever seen this website before...but I use the info from her all the time. I have one of her books and get her e-mail newsletters as well. She rates the cosemetics from a scientific approach instead of a user try and report approach. Paula Begoun: Paula's Choice: Cosmetics Cop: Skin Care & Makeup Tips & Reviews The website doesn't have many reviews...you need the book for that, but it gives you an idea on the e.l.f. stuff.
  9. OK Ladies...you'll get this straight from the horse’s mouth so to speak. Before I quite a year ago to open my own business I worked for Nordstrom.com for 10 years. I was a Web QA person and quite frequently was the person who placed the "warning" message you see. I am VERY familiar w/ this e.l.f. situation as it has been going on for a few years. Nordstrom doesn't carry e.l.f. and never will. It is not affiliated in any way with the company. The stuff is similar to Wet n Wild cosmetics. When we first dealt with this e.l.f. situation about 2 or 3 years ago some of us placed orders for the products to see what they were like. It's hit or miss. Some are decent and some are junk. (the eye shadows are junk in my opinion) Just to put things in perspective...here in Seattle many of the Goodwill stores carry e.l.f. cosmetics...that right you heard me...Goodwill!! Out of the 5 or us girls that ordered, only 1 got everything she ordered...but we all had problems of one type or another. You don't need to order this stuff online, allot of places like Longs, Rite Aide, Wallgreens, etc. carry e.l.f.
  10. Thanks guys. I have heard it's purple and white just like the ROR. Hearing that it looks near complition calms my fears a bit. It's scheduled to open in Sept...I've been so worried that "island time" would effect construction as well.
  11. What you need is Hotfix rhinestones. They are flatbacked and have a special glue on the back that affixes to fabric when heated up. If you have a soldering iron that has changeable heads you are all set...if not, you can get one of the irons at Michaels or Joanns crafts. I've actually seen the stones and irons in the bridal section. One important thing to think about!! Rhinestones hate water!!!! This would be a lounging on the beach swimsuit.
  12. It was great. We had seats 4 rows back...amazing. The costumes are influenced by fashion in the teens and roaring 20's (tap pants, flowy gowns, guys in spats, etc) that is my fav era and I just loved that part. I don't want to give away anything for people going to see it, but there is a fun part w/ one of the performers and a balloon ride through the crowd that was really cute. Also, this time it was in English, instead of French, like the other ones I've seen...so I think I got more out of the story.
  13. Tonight I am going w/ my sister, her husband, and my FI to see the new Cirque Du Soleil - Corteo. I'm so excited. My sis gave us the tickets for Christmas and I have been waiting months to see it. Has anyone else seen it? I've been to a bunch of the other ones and always loved them (well all except Zumanity..too cheezy for me) So I'm closing up shop early and heading to the circus!
  14. I was wondering if anyone headed to Jamaica in the near future could do me a favor. I am so curious about the progress on the new Riu in Montego Bay that we have booked. I've searched online for pics, but they are all really tiny and I can't tell if it's a ral pic or an artist model. If you are headed there could you make sure to take a peek at the hotel as you drive by...or maybe a pic if you can? It's right next door to the Sandals Royal Carb. I just want to know how far along it looks. The curiousity is killing me.
  15. I agree...prices are not going to drop after summer. They will stay high. I saw a gas station today at $4.03!!!! I recently had our flights to Jamaica booked and thought we were good to go...until out TA let me know that Continental canceled the flight and canceled our bookings. We had to start all over and were able to find new air on Delta that was only $100 more per/person. I felt luck that was all it was. I'll be crossing my finger until Feb that this new flight doesn't get canceled as well. Ooohh and the price of our resort double in the last week as well.
  16. Well here is what happened.(thanks for all the advice by the way) FI had called our landlord because we are having problems with the lights in our garage. As he was talking to her he asked about the neighbor and told her the situation (they lived in our house before we moved in). Joel just wanted to know how the neighbor would react if I went over and talked to him. Our landlord thought that not leaving a note didn’t sound like something the neighbor would do. Joel called me back to tell me that I should go to the neighbor’s house and talk with them. I was outside the house on the phone with him when the neighbor’s wife can over. Apparently my landlord took it upon herself to call the neighbors son (he does not live with them) to tell him he needs to talk with his parents. She was quite upset and not making much sense. She didn’t give me a chance to say much. She said the reason her husband had left and had not yet left a note on the car was because his tooth fell out and he had to go to the dentist. I don’t feel this is 100% the truth as they were in the yard working on the motorhome for an hour before he left.. She also thought it was me who had called her son. I don’t even know her and her husband’s names…let alone their son’s phone number. All I was able to say is that we called our landlord asking for advice and she had called her son and that I felt they should put a note on the car ASAP. She waked off and came out a few minutes later and placed a Post-it on the car. The car is now gone and I didn’t see the person come and get it…but hopefully she was honest and put the correct info on the note. This is what I was trying to avoid. I’m crossing my fingers that this is all there is and the poor car owner got the info they need.
  17. No, I don't know who's car it is. We live near a high school and many of the students paerk on our street during the day. I think it must be one of thiers. I thought about the anonymous note...but both Pop and FI said that w/o my info as a witness the car owner can't do much.
  18. What would you guys do in this situation? Here’s the conundrum… I’m off on Mondays and am hanging at home; to the side of our kitchen there are large picture windows that look out onto the street. I was making lunch and heard a loud crunching/scrapping noise. I look out the window and see my elderly neighbor in a very large motorhome scrapping the side off a car parked on the street in front of my house. He gets stuck to the car, gets out of the motorhome, goes back inside and backs the motorhome up to unattach from the car. He finally parks the thing in his drive way and brings his wife out to look at the poor car. They both head back inside the house. About 1 hour later I see him get in his truck and drive off. He never left a note on the car!! Nothing. I know hw doesn’t realize that I saw him hit the car. Here is my problem. We are renters and I know he is not fond of our dog. We have never spoken to these neighbors. We are very friendly with all our other neighbors and often have get togethers with them. I am very worried about starting a “bad neighbor†situation. If we get him in trouble by letting the car owner know he might call our landlords or the cops about our dog (or some other reason). I figure I have 3 options: 1. call the cops non-emergency number and report it 2. Talk to him directly 3. Leave my own note on the car as a witness. I called my Pop and FI and they both are telling me to do different things and each have very valid reasons. I’m so confused….what do I do? I don’t want to be “one of those neighborsâ€
  19. I post on the DW board on the Knot...but that is the only one. The other Knot and Nest boards can be really brutal. If you are talking about the DW board and you keep seeing people talking about "The Bow"...that is another private message board created by the DW girls. It's private because there have been many problems in the recent past with board vs. board cat fights...I kid you not. (Pun intended) It seems that most other current and former "knotties" think that DW weddings are simply wrong etiquette wise. They come over and post attacks on the girls on the DW board and the whole thing explodes in to a cat fight. It is so ridiculous and high school like. The girls on the attack then post “come over and see the cat fight†messages on all the other boards. I admit that I think it’s really funny and have feed the Trolls myself by pointing out when they contradict themselves. When the cat fights aren’t going on, the DW girls are really cool and have lots of great ideas. I’ve thought about posting a link to this board on there…but am hesitant for fear of attack. Lol. I have seen a few of the girls on this board as well.
  20. You are so right Starry...just use normal precautions. I had more problems in the FL Keys than I had anywhere else. So it can happen anywhere. The one thing that always sticks with me when I leave Jamaica is that the people there smile more than anywhere else I have been. FI jokes that it is from the "herbs" they smoke.
  21. I agree with all the pp 100%. He'll be looking at you...not your dress. I also think that classic, less embellished gowns are a better choice. In 10 to 15 years when you are looking at your wedding photos your dress will look more timeless instead of outdated. Just think about all those Neo-Victorian bead and lace nightmare dresses from the 80's we all see now and laugh at. Think of your dress as a blank canvas and add via jewelry and accessories. That’s what my plan is.
  22. I think we have all heard those stories as well. I have been to Jamaica 3 times and have never had a problem. I always go off resort. There are problems in Jamaica, just like almost anywhere, but it is concentrated around Kingston....which is on the opposite side of the island from MB, Negril, or Ocho. Many people in Jamaica are very poor, so I suggest going off resort to see and understand. My friends and I always take school supplies (like crayons, pencils, etc) and pass them out to the kids we meet. They always seem to be a big hit.
  23. I would have loved it if they had just moved us to another flight...but that isn't what they did. They just canceled our reservations out right. I even went to the airlines website and when I try the conf # it has Joel's and my name and tells us the conf # isn't attached to any flights. Getting from Seattle to MBJ with out having to switch planes more than once is really hard and I think no matter what right now we are going to have to apy allot more $$$.
  24. Ggggrrrr. We have had the reservations less than 2 weeks. I was so happy last night as we got the paperwork in the mail and this morning I found out that Continental just canceled our flight leaving Jamaica. Now we have to start all over again!! Why does this have to be so hard. OK...rant over...sorry had to vent
  25. I should clarify... 3 rows of emerald cut in a channel setting is difficult. emerald or baguette boardered by brilliants will be easy to find.
