I have yet to post my reviews from getting married a month ago in Cancun. I did not get married at Dreams but we stayed there for the last few days after our wedding...our "mini honeymoon" we called it. I have to say Dreams was a phenomenal hotel!!! They greeted us at check-in with bottled water and a cool hand towel, and our room was decorated with rose petals and champagne as a honeymoon room. We were in the room over the dolphins and our room was great, we thought for an AI the food was especially good, and I loved the hotel!! I have stayed in many places and traveled a lot, and I was really impressed as a guest with the hotel, the service, and the atmosphere. Hope that helps- I didn't take many pictures but I will get around to posting the ones I did take. And I highly recommend doing the spa experience- was fantastic!!!!

Thanks everyone- these are soo useful. I will post mine too in a few weeks when I get back. LOL_ I already think one of mine is "wish i had planned more time for photographer to take group pics". It was a budget decision but I hope I don't miss tons of time from guests to take them after ceremony!

Well, after much planning I leave in just a few days for Cancun. I can't wait...I have been counting down months, then weeks and now days . I laughingly thought that the last few weeks would be stress-free, time to regroup, get pampered and pack. Ha!!! I found these to be the busiest of all- last minute errands, picking up dress, changes in guest totals, interary cahnges, emails from vendors, etc. I don't know if anyone else found this to be true but this was my experience- FYI to all you other brides... plus your emotions are running so high from excitement, nerves, etc. so rely on support systems when it starts to feel overwhelming- they are invaluable! I am sooooo excited that it's finally here!!! I had a crazy experience a few weeks ago that I wanted to share. Get this- I just found out that the Hyatt Cancun Caribe CHANGED to another resort!!! They never prewarned me, let me know or anything- I found out because travelocity, american express had started contacting guests.... what?? I had to scramble to tell all my guests new hotel info, make sure that all my contract information, hotel room info was still valid- needless to say it was the biggest mess ever. And a WC who just replies "no problem- everything is the same". Ha!!!! I know that she is playcating me to a certain extent but I have everything documented/ been in touch with hotel/ so at this point I have let it go overall and know that I will get down there and assess things and adjust if needed- but everything will still be great (thats my mantra:)). I will keep you all posted when I get back . We have 60 people coming and I can't wait. We are still doing ceremony and dinner at (former) Hyatt Cancun Caribe and then reception at Fiesta Americana Condesa. I will give lots of pictures and reviews of hotels/vendors when I get back. Cheers and thanks to everyone on the forum for EVERYTHING- I don't know how you would plan a DW without this .

We are moving hotels right after we getting married, and will be moving from Hyatt Cancun Caribe to Dreams Cancun Sunday Feb 8th through the 11th. Are any brides staying at Dreams during those times? Just in case I see you

I am staying at the Hyatt Cancun Caribe for a week in February for my wedding. The dinner for the ceremony is at Hyatt's Blue Bayou Restaurant- we love the ambiance soo much for dinner there! I just saw on Travelocity a random post that the restaurant was closed for some sort of reconstruction. I emailed the wedding coordinator (I hadn't heard anything about this!!) and she told me that the restaurant would still be having construction in February but that it would be open for my wedding for all the guests. AHHHHHHHH......what does that mean? I asked for more clarification and I haven't heard back. I am trying not to panic (trying) because the restaurant was part of the reason we picked Hyatt for the ceremony/dinner. Has anyone seen this or heard about it? I am trying to figure out why they would close a 4 star restaurant for several months? Does that mean it will look semi-under construction for my dinner? Any help would be great if you have heard of anything or are going down to Cancun in January for site visits I would really appreciate if you could find out anything for me!!!! Thanks a million.

Neen- we just did that! We got legally married on Christmas Eve in Fairfax, VA and then went to a cute Italian restaurant afterward to have a bottle of champagne and some lunch! It was perfect and although we have a month before we leave for Mexico, we consider Mexico to be the "wedding' and won't put on our wedding bands until Cancun. Hooray! Congrats and have a great wedding..it's soo soon and it will be amazing!

Hi all. We had people commit about a year ago and within the past few months had 3 groomsmen drop out! Poor FI would ask someone else that he was close with and after today's realization that another guy (who committed 8 months ago) is dropping out one month before the wedding!!! Dare I say is it a guy thing? I totally understand if major things come up, but how do you commit to being in a wedding, sending in an RSVP card and then just deciding you can't afford it one month before Sorry- just venting. I feel your pain on this one!!! I can't vent to FI because he is the one so disappointed..

I have heard that it varies with resorts regarding how long you need to be in Mexico for a legal wedding, but if it is just a renewal of your vows I wouldn't think that it would matter how long you are in the country beforehand. We decided to do the legal signing here (so much easier) and I am so excited- we are doing it on Christmas Eve. I can't wait!!!! Plus, it's so hard to keep the secret but it will be nice to have a quick, private legal ceremony just the two of us.

Congrats on switching- let us know how it goes when you break the news to Le Meridien- I am so glad that you don't have the headache of your hotel reservations there. JW is beautiful, I looked there on my site visit and loved it! Are you using the gazebo for the ceremony?

Another option for sandals is to go with basic flips (you can find those in black, or brown leather..and I think you can pull it off on the beach and still look chic). Or look around in department stores, sports stores (like REI) or perhaps in guys clothing stores like Pacific Sun, Levi, Lucky Brand- they are probably having big sales this time of year on sandals!

mrsbancroft2be- I am debating back and forth about having a welcome cocktail hour. I think I will give guests option on Wednesday night of meeting in the hotel lobby for a non-hosted hour or so, as a meet and greet. Since our guests are going to be at 2 hotels, it would be a nice way to connect everyone I think (especially for the few guests who don't know many people)but definitely doesn't need to be hosted by the bride/groom. Thursday we are so busy- my mom is throwing me a shower poolside , guys will likely be fishing, then later we have rehearsal and dinner. So I don't want to overwhelm people- I guess I will throw the option out there, and if guests would like to go for a drink they can or not... The rehearsal dinner is killing me too- I found a great restaurant and really want to do one, but at even just the wedding party and family it's 25 people (hosted by us..so it's another thing to add into budget). I guess I will do just a few bottles of wine and a set menu to try and keep cost down. And I soo don't have it together, trust me !!!

I also can't wait for the big day..I don't know what I will do with all the extra hours in the day without anything wedding related . I think I will go into withdrawals not being able to plan or be on the forum all the time! LOL. Isn't it amazing how the to-do list never ends. Especially my fiance's who to-do list never seems shorter (hmmmm). So here is what I have done: Site visit Had the families meet (major hurdle) Send out STD's Send out Invites- about 55 ppl confirmed and waiting on 35 invite replies still Wrote special thank-you's for those in bridal party Booked venues/details Signed all contracts for vendors except florist spoken to minister about ceremony and did vows Bought dress/accessories Got my rings :) Booked photographer (gave her poses), DJ and gave DJ the songs to play Picked out flowers...I have the "image" of what I want Worked with my mom who is wonderfully doing welcome bags Bought groom's tux Booked appointments for hair make-up at Hyatt and apts. with WC's **Most proud- started working out with trainer What I need to do: Transportation for wedding party between locations Pick a Hotel for remaining three days (to get a mini break from guests ) Bought FI's ring Final dress fitting Picked out groomsmen attire Get CD of songs for actual ceremony for wedding coordinator purchase bridesmaids/groomsmen gifts Confirmed flowers/contract with florist Get final numbers/stragglers for final dinner count Do rehearsal dinner rsvp and email or call invite (we lagged on this one because we couldn't decide how big/small and what we could afford after all the other wedding stuff!!!) Do programs and print up any small signs for ceremony and welcome letter for guests Pick reading for my brother for ceremony Have a glass of wine when I think about my to-do list I feel like I am forgetting a million things right now... what have I been so busy with the past 8 months? For some reason my mind keeps jumping to the "to do" list! I think the remaining items are some of the expensive things..doh.

I love the advice on here and wish that I would have seen it a few weeks ago . I ran into the same issue (almost all of invitees were not local but local folks wanted to throw me a "shower"), and kept trying to figure how to celebrate and have a ladies day but not hurt anyone's feelings. I asked around a lot about this and got different advice each time from former brides:) ... so it is definitely a tricky issue but I see no reason of why you can't celebrate with friends/family , especially if you are doing a destination or smaller wedding. I was invited to a friends shower and not invited to destination wedding, and didn't hurt my feelings at all...I think people understand but that's just my thoughts . In the end, I told those hosting mine that it would be ok to invite some girls that were not invited to the wedding as long as it was stressed that I really just wanted to hang out and get some girls time, rather than a shower "ie gifts" (because that is sooo what I meant but I'm afraid it won't be interpreted that way!!). But I was really torn about it!!!! I wish I would have had the idea to tell them to refer to it more as a celebration...lol. Well- it's this weekend so I'll let you know how it goes!

To all of your many brides who have raffia fans handy...could someone please tell me the exact measurements for height and width? From what I've gathered they are about 9.5-12 inches wide...are they the same measurement for height? I am placing the ceremony program on top of the center of fan, so I didn't want to make them too big. For those of you did this, what size program (5x7? 4x6??) did you use? I am trying to do my ceremony programs while my mom is ordering them, so if any of you could let me know that would be great thanks!!

Oh I just missed them- I love the pashminas and fans, so glad they went to someone to put to use!

It's me again....and to top it off, I just found out that one of the groomsen today who had not sent in the invite decided he can't make it now to the wedding!!!!! He agreed 8 months ago to be in the wedding and now doesn't think he can come... what Sorry, it has been one of those weeks, but I cannot imagine agreeing to be in someone's wedding and then cancelling right before..I would completely understand if something happened, but I think it is more due to poor planning and with the holidays doesn't want to spend the money. OK, sorry just venting But isn't that soooo rude?

I am soo glad that I found this post, this has been eating away at me the past few weeks. Our deadline was Dec. 1st and I still have about 35 invites that have not come back. Two of which are from part of the close families members if you can believe that- and I have a feeling they are actually dragging their feet because they might not be coming!! It is so inconsiderate... I have to admit getting married has given me such insight to the process and having such appreciation now to what all other brides have gone through!! I promise to not have a late RSVP to a wedding again ...
