It's a picture that goes in a frame that says "United in Love" their names, and the wedding date, with flowers and a border around it. I will definately take a picture when it's done. It really isn't their style at all, which makes it more fun to do

Hmm, maybe I can hire some kids to do mine. Say I'm volunteering at the boys & girls club & we are having arts & crafts day I might head to michaels tonight with my 40% off coupon & get supplies. Counted cross stitch is quite easy, but can be time consuming. You have a pattern which is your guide, some are colour coded, and you count the squares and put stitches in the right squares. Doing words or a saying would probably go quite quickly though. I am doing a counted cross stitch from a kit right now as a gift for the bride and groom so if you need more help ask away.
  4. I worked out today too. A double-step class (you use two steps and move back and forth between the two).
  5. Those look great! We are just finishing up our welcome package. Just waiting for Katie to do 1 more page when she has time. I would not have been able to do any of this without the help and ideas I have received from the ladies here.

I seriously considered trading my vehicle in just so I can get an ipod hook up
  7. We established a long time ago, a two week maximum for house guests. In the past we have had relatives that thought that it would be great to have a vacation in our part of Canada. We don't mind them coming to visit, but then they would like us to entertain them and show them around, which is fine for a few days but after a week or so I begin to get bitchy My father-in-law showed up, from the UK, a couple of days before my expected due date for my second daughter to wait for her to arrive! After a couple of days we sent him away, and he returned the day after she was born and I was still in the hospital. Ugh!
  8. I asked my daughter and she recommends Stock Photography: Search Royalty Free Images & Photos | iStockphoto.com She has used some stuff from there for various projects, including the logo she made for herself for the wedding. I'm not sure how it works but I think that you do have to pay for some of the images but that they are vectored so you can modify them (that is what she said, it might mean something to you but it doesn't to me

I have a friend who grew up in Mexico City and was used to the things you describe above. She married a Canadian guy. The way they solved the 'cultural' differences was to have two weddings. They got married in Canada first and his family planned the wedding the way they wanted it, then they flew to Mexico and her family planned another wedding the way they wanted. But she did tell me that she had nothing to do with the planning of either wedding. She just let the families do their thing and just showed up in a dress. She was too busy getting her phd to worry about it. Hopefully you find a solution to the invitation dilema that you can both be happy with.

  12. I've had lots of people ask me where my daughter is registered, or what they would like for gifts. Is it ok for me to say that they are not registered because they have everything that they need for now? If the person has persisted after that I have mentioned that they can 'donate' to the future down payment on a house. I feel uncomfortable doing that but don't know what else to say or do?
  13. Thanks for an awesome link! I'll be a laminating fool this weekend for sure

I really wanted to do an engagement party for lots of reasons, but the main one was that I knew that Katie and Chris wanted to plan their own wedding and I am such an organizer and can be very controlling once I get into something and knew we could end up in a conflict. So I asked them to let me do the engagement party my way and I'd do my very best to let them do the wedding their way. It was a negotiation process and I'd say we're still working on it!
  15. I just wanted to post a little update to this. I have run into a minor technical difficulty. My daughter wanted the logo printed in the bottom corner of the bag, so that is what I did. Unforuntately, when you put stuff in the bag, the logo actually ends up half on the bottom of the bag, so I would have been better off putting the logo a little higher up. Just a FYI for anyone else doing this in the future.
  16. I planned an engagment party for my daughter and her fiance. The theme was Mexican Fiesta, so we served mojitos and corona beer as guests arrived. We had salsa, and other dips with chips, and nuts set up in various locations. We played salsa music. We bbq'd beef, chicken, chorizo sausage and shrimp, all on skewers, we had two large bowls of salad, Mexican rice, and vegetable trays. We had a cake made that had a Mexican theme, and we had fresh fruit, ice cream, and cheese and crackers. I put together a quiz type of game which was great and got the many different groups of people interacting. It was basically a list of questions that I asked the groom ahead of time, then asked the bride the day of the party. Guests had to guess if she's know the answers or not. The rest of the questions were related to weddings and customs around the world. I can figure out a way to post it as an attachment if anyone is interested. You can see some pictures here Engagement Pictures from Cheryl pictures from friends & fun photos on webshots It was a lot of work, but I'm glad I did it. Chris (the groom) and my other daughter's boyfriend, are both trained chefs, so that helped alot. I would be glad to answer any other questions you might have.
  17. I too haven't used one in a while, but when I did I used WS_FTP by Ipswitch Network Monitoring, Secure File Transfer, & Messaging - Ipswitch.com Not sure it it's free or not anymore.

We've always figured we didn't need one but after this winter I think we're going to rethink that.
  20. I am so done with this winter! Stop already! And to top it off husband is in Florida this weekend playing golf.

We have a running joke now that before anything is decided on, she has to tell me "Final Answer". I hope may daughter likes my help too! Our planning is kind of complicated (not quite the right word) by the fact that the groom is very much involved too. He made all the travel arrangements and deals with the agent, bought all the clothing for his groomsmen and himself, and almost everything has to be run by him for his opinion, except of course, what the bride and bridesmaids are wearing. He even helped with making invitations. I was so pleased when I got assigned a task because I was feeling left out of everything. So the OOT/Getting Ready for Mexico bags have been my job.
