I need to know how to handle this situation...
Bisha replied to KAMAY11's topic in Just venting or funnies
Totally understand what you're going thorugh. I dont think any wedding goes without some kind of family drama! We had drama provided by both sides of the family in one way or another. As an example, FIL decided to invite his girlfriend's mother to the AHR without telling us. Mind you we paid for EVERYTHING ourselves. The way I found out about it was that her reply card said 2 with no names. I sent her an e-mail asking if she was referring to FIL as #2 and when she replied it was her mom since FIL invited them! I totally blew up but my e-mail was short and to the point: "it would have been nice to know who was being invited to OUR wedding without our knowledge!" She sort'of blew it off and it didn't go any further than that but, it felt good speaking up! It always does! -
I agree with everything that April said with the exception of the prices. I've also been to both several times but found Cancun to be much pricier than Riviera Maya/Playa del Carmen. It might have something to do with the resort we chose and the fact that every other time we went, it was through some kind of a special. I can also second the fact that Cancun is not always "spring break" central. We were there first week of November for our wedding last year and it was pretty quiet. Even a little too quiet. Not enough of the or or LOL

Well, one evening in February I came home a little late, 7:00 pm, because I was shopping for wedding dresses. I was on the phone with a friend of mine and I pull into the garage and get out of the car. I tried to open the door from the garage to the house and it was locked. I got off of the phone with my friend and in my mind I cursed the FI for accidentally locking the door into the house. I didn't have a key on me because I had given it to my sister so she could feed the dog while we were away the weekend before. Well, I figured I would call my sister and ask her to bring the key, but while I was on the phone with her, I noticed something weird in the garage. The cover for the dog door was off! I immediately thought, someone broke into the house. I decided to get the neighbor and we walked around to the back of the house. There were footprints in the snow and the sliding glass door was unlocked! I freaked and called the police. I was not sure if someone was in the house or not, but the dog was not barking. Well, the police came and we went in. Everything looked normal. The dog ran down to greet me but she still was not barking. We walked around the house and I noticed that things were missing. Three laptops, all of FI's watches, dufflebag (which they used to cart our stuff out of the house). The FI came home and the police dusted for fingerprints (just like CSI!). They made me go through the house again and make a list of everything that was taken. Well, they didn't get my jewelery because I had it in a hidden drawer. BUT, when I found out what they did take, I started laughing. The policeman asked me what was wrong and I told him nothing. He said if they did something I had to tell him, so I told him that they stole Mr. Purple! He started cracking up. Long story short, they found the duffle bag the same night when these guys tried to rob another neighbor but he called the police and they ran. The police brought the duffle back so we could identify our items. They pulled everything out one at a time but when they got to Mr. Purple, the policeman said "I'll let you get this out, Ma'm. I was so embarrassed! They started making jokes like, "does he sing, I love you, you love me?" Like Barney. Let's just say I hope to never be pulled over by any of them! BTW, they did catch the guys. I threw Mr. Purple in the trash. Such a violation. It's certainly great that you can look back at this and laugh but, I'm pretty sure it wasn't funny at all when you found out you were robbed!

I think it's a very personal choice! Before FI and I got engaged and we were one of the very last ones out of our friends, I let him know my feeling on the topic which is, if it's not something I like or would wear I'd rather not have any at all. It's the thought that counts! I guess I was fortunate to get the ring that I got but, if it was none, I would have been fine with that too Oh, and to this day, he wont tell me how much he spent. not even a hint. I just know it was A LOT!

Danielle, I just realized that your DW date is the same as mine!

I keep saying that I'm not too worried about it but, have been a lot more diligent about turning the alarm on at night since I can sleep through a burgalry in my own house (very heavy sleeper)! Thank you for the reassurance and I do hope that they catch whoever it is. I always say that I dont care about material things but, the idea of someone going through my stuff or, god forbid, hurting my animals scares me to death! I had noticed a higher police presence in our neighborhood lately but, attributed it to traffic stops and nothing more. I guess it is better to know then not to know and it's great how good the neighbors have been about it but, that still does not make me feel any better about the situation!

So my neighbors stop me as I'm heading out to work to let me know that there have been 2 breakins on a newrby street and to tell me to spread the word to other neighbors to be careful. Even though we live in a very safe neighborhood, we have an alarm and I thanked them for the warning and told them I'm not worried but can't seem to get that off my mind for 2 days now! We're in a 2nd floor condo and leave our windows open when the weather is nice and our dog does bark when someone is outside the windows. She's super sweet but has a mean sounding bark! So, I keep trying to make myself feel better about it but it keeps bothering me. To make matters worse, I saw another neighbor this morning and she told me that her husband's car and the association pool were vandalized! I really love my neighborhood and I know that no matter where you live this stuff may happen but, I'm just super bothered by it!

We had a really long engagement, 3 yrs and were living together the entire time we were engaged so a lot of people, 1 friend especially, kept saying "ur hubby" and I kept telling him that I dont have one! LOL When we finally got married, we kept calling each other hubby and wifey and giggling each time Oh and now, every time we fill out a form that asks for your marrital status and we check "married" we giggle some more! LOL

Who wants to complain about the economy with me?
Bisha replied to Nrvsbride's topic in Just venting or funnies
I read this post yesterday and was thinking of joining you girls in the complaining but, couldnt think of anything useful to add. So, yesterday, I sat down to do the bills only to realize that we went way over budget in the past 1.5 months and have to dig into our savings in order to avoid the ever increasing finance charges on the CC. We had a financially straining summer with lots of birthdays and I was a MOH in a wedding with a few more that we attended as guests. My husband keeps compalaining that we "cant have everything we want" and he complains because I take care of the finances and won't let him spend. So, today, I decided to chime in. I agree that the economy has really put a strain on everyone!! But, like a lot of the other girls have said, we need to be grateful for what we have! Can someone please carry this message through to my hubby?? -

I suppose I will have to try and just chill a bit after all its still so far away LOL, Thanks for the advice ! We hired a DJ that I think (I honestly can't remember) was recommended by the hotel. I have the contract at home and can look up the name of the company if you're interested. I thought they were pretty good. The DJ came and met with us a day or so before to decide on the type of music we want. My husband is a DJ and brought his CDs down to Cancun with us and got to spin a little during the wedding. That was pretty cool! and to answer your other question, they did start to clear the tables but, not in a "it's time for you to leave" kind'a way. Honestly, by that time, we were having too much fun to care about food anyway!

I know this is a convirsation I have brought up before in a thread I started but I don't seem to have got very far with it. I know most of you are going to go with the flow and probably move on to one of the bars after your 3 hours of reception are up but I was just wondering how the others that have already got married there got round this music / time issue ?? Did they pay the extra or did they just end up staying with no extra cost ? Any thoughts ?..... We got married at Dreams last year (Nov) and had the reception in the Lobby Tower. We stayed until the bar ran fresh out of Tequila! LOL and then they went and got us more Tequila from another bar until that ran out and so on! The DJ had stayed past their time and so did the bar staff. No one was rushing us away nor were we asked to pay more to stay. We just kept partying until we could party no more The only thing was they asked us to make the music lower around 10:30 or so. I think it also helped that one of my BMs was running around and making everyone including the WC, DJ, waiters, bartenders drink Tequila shots with her. She managed to get EVERYONE around drunk! LOL I think if you're laid back and don't stress about it, everything will work itself out.

Drasticallly uneven wedding party
Bisha replied to morenaindc's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
You can have 1 guy walk 2 girls at a time (that's 6) and the MOH can walk by herself. -
I had found out the hard way that you absolutely cannot please everyone when it comes to setting a date. Our wedding was on a Tuesday because that was the only day Dreams had available. I kept going back and forth and finally realized that those who want to be there will be there no matter what day you decide and those don't, wont! And I do also agree with the rest of the girls that on vacation, no one knows what day of the week it is anyway; the beauty of a DW! Good luck with your decision!

WOW!!! I honestly can't believe that!!! It's crazy! I do wonder what he tells people that say they're not Catholic or, ready for this, ATHEISTS!!! ?

That is really funny! Thank you very much for the laugh!!! I wish I could say that I can relate and I guess in some way I can but, for the most part, I'm the super forgetful one in the relationship. I sometimes think I can forget my own B-day!!!

Choose my BM dress please!
Bisha replied to edssbride09's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I also chose #2. I can relate to being busty and being asked to wear a strapless gown, very uncomfortable! I dont think you need to worry about the color being too bright either since it's the beach and the bright colors looks great since verything else around is bright as well. Good luck and deffinitely let us know what you chose. -
Thank you, thank you! To answer: Quote: Do you have any pics from your wedding that you can post? , I have tons but not in full resolution. That's why my siggy pics are so tiny, I copied them from my Kodakgallery account. I'll upload a few of the prof. ones when I get them in a bigger size . Really happy to be back!

Hello again everyone! I'm not really a newby. I used this site quite a bit while planning my DW in Dreams Cancun on November 6, 2007. Since then, I had been super busy at my previous job with no time to browse the net. I had recently started a new job and found myself with lots of free time and in the process of planning our first anniversary vacation to Costa Rica and somehow, found my way back to this site Everyone was exteremely helpful here during my wedding planning days and with my ample free computer time at the new job, I decided to return the favor as well as find some chat buddies
