  1. OH NO! When does Lawrence get home?!? I guess enjoy your time in it now since you're stuck there.... k, sorry but I've gotta LOL Don't worry you'll make it out of this one!

You know what, that's the 2nd time I've heard that! The other time was from a friend of a friend who gets them constantly. I can't believe a doctor would actually recommend taking pain meds w/beer. WEIRD. I don't really like it but it might be worth a shot... So what's the prescription for beer? lol Btw, has anyone else ever taken this Flomax stuff? Side effects listed can be stuffy/runny nose and BOY did I ever wake up with both of these! I can't stop stuff from coming out! I can't find on the net how long these side effects should last (Dr. prescribed (1) .4mg pill @ night). If there are any nurses out there reading this I'd love to hear your input! I took Claritin this morning to see if that would help at all cause it feels just like bad allergies. Oh hey, Tami - I have another question for you: does the actual passing (i.e. peeing out) of the stone hurt bad? The doc told me that the worst should be over but I would think passing the stone would be the worst part. It's definitely still in there, I can feel it deep down on the right side of my lower back/abdomen. P.S. - I had a dream that it came out and it was the size of a prune! LOL

I have gotten them ssoo often that I know when I have one and go right to the doctor for a shot and then have to just wait it out b/c they are usually small enough not to require being surgically broken up (only had to have that once). My kidney stones have all been calcium oxilates. The doctor told me those types of stones form from certain things we eat drink, for the most part. So, I had to cut out soda, iced tea (not hot, only iced), peanuts, greens (kale, collards, turnips, etc) ... and stop drinking water from the tap when I lived in WV (the water was high in calcium). When I changed those things, I didn't have any issues. Have only had 1 in the past 8 years -- and that was actually just a few months ago -- but it passed on its own in a few days with some pain medicine to get me through. And, I eat greens all the time now. Clear indicators are sharp pains in the lower right side of your back, and in the worst cases, naseau. I always have to strain my pee during a kidney stone spell too. I have a hugely funny story about my MOH's hubby dipping his hand into the toilet to get out my stone once it passed one weekend b/c I hadn't strained ... and since my pee was clear he didn't realize I had peed in the toilet. He freaked out when I was like "WTF are you doing?!" Anyway ... boy am I rambling ... but it's important to catch it in the strainer so they can see what type of stone it is. That way they can tell you if, like me, you need to avid certain foods or what is best for you to not get another. GOOD LUCK! Any questions, just ask! I've been there more times than I'd like to count! lol, WOW Tami! That is funny about your MOH's DH fishing out your stone. I am almost certain it's from taking extra calcium & vitamin C supplements. I was doing this because I had been sick for a long time and I was trying to boost my immune system. Sheesh, see where being healthy got me?!? My Grandfather also got them when he took Calcium supplements. He hasn't taken them since and has been kidney stone free No more Cal/Mag supplements for Jaime! Thanks for sharing your story

Ewwww. Oh, and I just had spaghetti for dinner - don't worry, that strainer is staying FARRR away from the kitchen!! Get out of there, you!!! Not only am I loopy from the drug but I'm feeling sooo easily distracted right now. I'm supposed to be reading something for American Lit. but playing on the computer seems so much more fun right now. Also, I looked up the other med I'm supposed to be taking - Flomax - and it's used to treat male prostate problems. It says if you experience an erection for more than 4 hours call your doctor - I think I'd be calling Maury if that happened! lol On a serious note though, it says if you're allergic to sulfa drugs (I am) that you might have a reaction to this also. Not sure if I should go ahead and take it or wait until tomorrow to call the doctor's office...

The doc will only give a cash discount (35%) if the doc appt. is $300+. Good news is they referred me to a place to have the scan done that costs 1/10th the price that hospitals charge (like down from $1k to >$100!!!) This doctor is really nice - she knows my situation (no insurance) so she's really trying to help me cut costs. Quote: Originally Posted by Christa Holy crap Jaime! I've heard so many horror stories of kidney stones... so far mine hasn't been nearly as bad as the things I've heard. The doc said the worst is over but I thought the worst was when you pass it... 7. *UPDATE* Well, the pain in the side of my back/abdomen area never went away so I finally went to see a Urologist today. It's a kidney stone. I can't believe I've had a freaking kidney stone for 5+ weeks. (Stupid CareNow docs ) I need to go in to get an X-ray scan done but the doc said my symptoms are classic for a kidney stone - straight out of the textbook. I'm actually relieved because I was beginning to worry that the symptoms were lingering for so long. She gave me this urine strainer thing that I have to pee in every time and try and catch some gold... I mean, a stone It does look like I'm pining for gold though - LOL I'm also on Flomax to help the stone pass and pain meds almost round the clock. She said it should pass within the next week or so!!! I go back to see her for a follow up next Monday. Pleeeeease think happy "flow" thoughts for me until then - hahahahahaha!

Btw, FMIL was so impressed she gave me a trophy (LOL) for my first 3 Layer Cake and then this Xmas she bought me 3 nice cake pans, flour sifter, etc...

My mom wasn't the best cook (for real- I was 19 before I realized meat actually had JUICE in it!) and she wasn't exactly the 'motherly' type to teach me how to cook. So the Sandra Lee type of cooking was great for me before I started enjoying cooking in my mid-20's. Now that I've learned how to blend flavors together, tried experimenting and learning that way, etc.... I prefer to create in the kitchen and cook from scratch instead of using a lot of shortcuts like she uses. These short cuts are exactly what I'm looking for right now. Sorry food snobs! Btw, I'd never heard of her before this...
  10. lol, oh well - I'm still gonna have to try out some of these recipes! We're lazy cooks and just starting out and honestly this looks easy! If they suck I'll let y'all know
  11. I received this for my birthday from my Aunt. It's a collection of her recipes in a cute little red box. I haven't tried out any of the recipes yet but they all look delicious! Has anyone else heard of her or made any of these recipes? I cannot wait to pick some of these out and try them! I'll share them here as I make them... 12. No problem! One of my clients is a really good chef/creator of recipes. Her & her friends test-tasted 50 (yes, 50!!!) chocolate martini recipes before they finally settled on this combination. We had a couple of them over at her place last weekend and they were sooooooooooooo yummy... *drool* Pure decadence.
  13. One of my clients made this for me as an Xmas gift, and then after Christmas we went over to her house to learn how to make it ourselves! I've also got a yummy cocktail recipe to go along with it - basically just fresh squeezed lime juice, cointreau, cranberry liqueur and I think some extra vodka (not sure on this part). I'll need to email her for the exact measurements though... Homemade Cranberry Liqueur: 2 Cups Sugar 1 Cup Water 1 (12 oz.) Package Cranberries 3 Cups Vodka 1. Combine sugar & water in a medium saucepan over medium heat until sugar dissolves. 2. Place cranberries in a food processor and process until finely chopped. 3. Combine sugar mixture, cranberries and vodka in a large jar. 4. Let stand 3 weeks in a cool dark place, shaking every other day. 5. Strain mixture through cheesecloth lined sieve. Pour into glass jars.
  14. Mmmmm... 1 part Hershey's Syrup 1 part Bailey's (or any Creme Liquor) 1 part Kahlua (or any Coffee Liquor) 1 part Vanilla Vodka 1/2 part Disaronno (or any Amaretto Liquor) Shake well w/ice & serve! Serves 2-3

Wow, your day is coming up quick! How are things going so far? Have you picked the location in PV? I'm getting married there at Las Caletas. There is sooo much info here that should help you out tremendously! Good luck with the planning!
  17. Calling all you fantastic, throw-it-together chefs (Tammy, Jamy, Maria,....) how can I make a good turkey burger? FI and I have just recently started cooking at home so we're slowly learning. We bought some pre formed patties but I would like to know what I can marinate them in to make it taste yummy? (We tried Turkey Dogs the other day and they were bland as heck!)
