  1. " second the question about travel mugs. not sure if i should spend the money on insulated travel mugs with lids and handles or just get stadium cups. " We bought our travel mugs at the dollar store if you are worried about cost. I am a strong supporter of the Travel Mug. Every one of our guests used them. People didn't have to get up as often for drinks, they didn't have to worry about it spilling and it kept it cold for those who dozed off. Also environmentally you should see how many cups resorts go through in even one hour. We personallized them by purchasing a sharpie paint marker (that in my trail run didn't rub off) but they got very scratched up. I brought it with me and kept changing what my mug said...bride to be...just married..no rum today...Maybe I should have invested in a mini sharpies and let everyone personalize there own. It would have been fun.

  3. What I would do again DW AI Riu Bachata Pick the beach location the dress OOt Bags (posted the stuff we were glad we use and the ones we could have skipped in http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t35759 ) Welcome books with guest photos Scavenger hunt - everyone had a great time running around the resort taking photos Asking a guest to be our photographer (amatuer photogragher) Write our own vows (they were the only ones people could hear) Ipod and portable Docking station Not bring down extra decor. It was beautiful as is. Wouldn't do again 8:30 sitting for dinner (way too late for my daughters and they were miserable) hair style (i think it looked good but not perfect) Jump over my balcony the night before to sprain my ankle. Some how arrange my girls to be watched by family for a few mornings so Hubby and I could spend some time together relaxing. We spent 4 full days apart on our 7 day trip! Find someone to take my girls for a few days to get a honeymoon. Put someone in charge of a wedding pic list. I didn't realize (and I am not heart broken) that some photos were missed. It was too much for my photographer to handle ontop of taking the photos. Allow guests to change our playlist. We spent time on the music and had certain songs included for different reasons and they didnt' get played because everyone took out there Ipods and started taking over. We still had fun though. Miss the Trash the Dress session - we didn't really have time to do this, but I should have made the time.
  4. Amanda, they look great and you look so beautiful. I can't wait to read the full review!
  5. Hits.. Totes ($dollar store Canadian flags on them) most used them daily Travel mugs ($ store) bought sharpie poster paint and put Puerto Plata and their names on it. They scrathced off by the end of the week, but everyone used these! Band Aids - blisters like crazy for our group Conversion charts we laminated a chart of the exchange rate as of a few days before we left with Domincan peso to American on one side and USD to CDN on the other Odour eliminator -people sprayed rooms, clothes... Face cloths - Norwex face cloths can take off make up with only water and they rarely give you face cloths down there. Welcome booklet with guest pics and names. Helped everyone feel part of the group. Misses Beach balls/footballs - no one used them they all just veggied out. Sewing kits - no one repoted needing it, but I have been on vacation and a bathing suit strap needed repair and I didn't have anything, so still glad I put it in (so cheap.) lip balm - never saw anyone use and we didn't touch it. post its - not many used.
  6. I agree about the credit thing. My mom and father seperated and even though she was the main source of income for many years once she wasn't part of a duo the bank wouldn't recognize her, because she has no credit history as a single.
  7. Ok I know none of us are going to get divorced, or are even thinking about that...but I never realized (because I am not planning on getting divorced) that we will have to adhear to the Dominican Republic's, where we got legally married, divorce laws. It never occured to me that they may different or something I might want to check out before I decide where the legal ceremony is. I did check it our breifly after a friend suggested and their laws and proceddings seem to be similar to Canada, but I thought what if there are different rules about the seperation of $$, alamony payments, child custody, child support... What are other people's thoughts?? Have you looked into it?? I know you shouldn't think of a way out down the line, or go into a marrage with a exit strategy but lets be realistic, what is the percentage of failed marriages??
  8. I brought mine down with me and it worked out well! We had it for the ceremony and then at the dinner we played our dinner music playlist then had it blaring for the dance. It was well worth the money (we payed $359) at the reception, though, everyone else's Ipods came out and our playlist went out he window. Oh well we had fun. People even brought us thier Ipods during the trip to charge so it was helpful to all.
  9. Bye Amanda, have a great time at the Bachata, I can't wait to hear how it went and see all your pics!!
  10. lol sounds like a lot of people like the idea but no one wants to take control of it.
  11. We danced to a slow song then cut into Kung fu fighting, YMCA, cotton eye joe, I like big butts, twist and shout, I like that old time rock and roll then back to our slow song, not an original idea but sure was fun and we didn't tell anyone before hand.
  12. I got married at the Riu Bachata in Puerto Plata and they expected all my paperwork done prior to us arriving. We went to the consulate here in town and they translated and notorized it. This information we found out on the consulates website. We then faxed it down and brought the originals with us. I am glad we faxed it down ahead because the resort noticed a mistake in the translation. Which we had to get fixed.
  13. I guess I should give an update since I posted this a while ago. I have been in a bootcamp since the summer. I go Mon. Wed. Friday's at 6am. I haven't lost much wieght but have gone down 1.5 dress sizes. I can now do sit ups no problem and am very happy I kept up with it. Thanks for all the encouragement!
  14. Our free wedding package included a dinner at one of the resturants. It said we will have a seperated area (not completely private) well the way the resturant is set up we had our own area. I have no idea who else was in the resturant (actually another wedding was there too) because we were left to celebrate ourselves. Completely segregated. We were allowed to stay afterwards and crank our Ipod/docking station so we danced did speaches and had cake. So check out where you are thinking of going and find out their policies and reviews from other brides.
  15. I was also worried about this, but I tanned in the beds before and got a nice even tan then used SPF 50 the whole time I was there. No tan lines on my wedding day!
  16. Wow, great dress. You look stunning! Perfect for the beach.
  17. I finally posted pics yesterday but can't edit the thread title to say pics included, but check them out if you like. http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t34663-2
  18. Some fun ones Amanda - most are taken on rocks behind gazebo
  19. Got the pics today!! they look fantastic, I will get on posting them soon...I promise, just wait until my kids go home.
  20. We went with The Calling where ever you go...well for one minute then kung fu fighting, twist and shout, good time rock and roll, I like big butts, cotton eye joe, YMCA and back to the calling. It was a blast, only a two guest knew it was coming and the rest thought it was great!!
