Bonus!!! 4 am comes very quickly! Mine wasn't and I flew skyservice booked through Sunquest. We actually tried to pre book sicne we needed two people as far away as possible from each other and eventhough the lady at the counter said I got your back she put them one row apart!! My seats were given away before I checked in. Since I was travelling with two little children they had us in the front row for the more space but we ended up in row 18. On the way back we got row one. So I say don't expect to placed together but if you do, bonus!
  3. Hey gals, I just got back from my wedding and one of the most fun days was our scavenger hunt day. I had in my welcome book a date/time and place to meet with the only instructions (optional) Scavenger hunt bring camera. We had over half the group come. I told them to get into teams of two but if we are an odd number groups of three were ok. I then gave them a list of pitures and told them to be back in an hour with as many as they could get. The one with the most wins, but if there is a tie it will go on creativity. And off then ran. The had a blast and when they got back I went through their photos and ranked each pic out of 3 (1 got the pic, 2 got the pic with some creativity and 3 very creative) but in the end only one team got them all. I announced the winner at the wedding reception and gave the winners photo albums from the Dominican. I would definetly do this again!! I would next time write down some of the more creative ones and mention them at the wedding while announcing the winners. I tried and did mention a few but could not remember very many. here is our list we stole from various list on here... 4. Our key was with another guests as he wanted to grab something out of our room. He then disappeared. Me and my girls were exhausted and just wanted to go to bed. SO after looking for him for 45 mintues I took the girls to the room and FI went to the front desk to get another key. While he was gone I got the bright idea of checking the patio door to see if we left it unlocked. Since we were on the first floor I just needed to jump over the railing. Ok not my best idea. Checked the door, nope locked, jumped back and didn't realize there was a ledge that one foot landed on and the other half landed on causing me to go over on my ankle. Instant pain. I then had to pick up my baby and hobble back to the room and wait for FI. Who came and couldn't believe what I had done. My ankle immediatly swelled up and I couldn't put much pressure on it. I cut and bruised my baby toe. I iced it put it up and started problem solving for the wedding the next day. Next day I was sitting by the bar with my foot up and a angel named Donna came by and asked if I was the one who is hurt and has her wedding that day. She said she was a natural healer and could she help me. I said sure (how could this hurt) I am believer to a certain extent, maybe 60-40. She took her hands and petted my leg downwards without touching me. After a few minutes my ankle got hot and the pain was gone. I could walk on it with a little limp. This wonderful lady then asked if she could do it again before the wedding. So she met me in my room at 130 and did it again. This time my foot got tingly and at the same time she said "Got it" the tingles ran up my foot and out my toes! I walked without a limp down a rocky path, stairs then along the beach to my wedding at 2pm! I am now a believer. This women was a guest at the resort who did not have to help me and asked for nothing in return. I have learned it is called Reiki and have attached a website if anyone wants to learn more about it. 5. I glued gun a small piece of ribbon to the shell and tied the rings to that. I didn't have to worry about him tripping!
  6. here's my review without pics, sorry they are coming http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t34663
  7. Here I am back from the most awazing trip. I am bad because I don't have pics yet but I did just get back on Monday. But I will post ASAP I promise! The Resort The Riu Bachata is a 5 star resort. Food was great, pools and beach fantastic. Views are unbeaten. Freindly staf working way too hard. Didn't visit the a la cartes as I travelled with my two little ones, but you had to reserve the day of (usually by 8am) and often times pesky weddings filled up half of the resturants so there was limited space. Rooms were pretty standard. We were upgraded to an ocean view room so we watched the sunset everynight. North Americans need an adaptor to use plugs. The front desk lent them out for a $2 deposit but did run out sometimes. Pre Wedding Met with the WC the day after we arrived. At the meeting we picked the flowers, resturant, seating time, location of wedding. We went through paper work and signed a bunch of stuff. Took about 45 minutes. We didn't see the WC again until wedding time. Which was great. Our wedding was free becasue we stayed a min 5 days. Extra costs for us $560 USD in paper work costs while there - marriage certificate and such. (spent about $500 CDN in paperwork costs before hand translating and notorizing) $150 USD to the minister because we got married on Saturday - his day off. $105 USD in flowers for the Bridesmaids GM MOB FOB and sister of the groom and two bags of flower petals for the FGs. $45 for hair day of. Total extra cost $1360. Our package price for the one week AI (Including flights) was 1499. Wedding day Woke up (after spraining ankle night before - long story left to another thread) put foot up. FI brought me breakfast in bed. Hobbled to bar area waited for BM's to go to hair salon. Appointment at 11 am but went early as I hadn't decided what to do with my hair. Still had no idea when I sat down in the chair, but they did a fantastic job. All four of us got our hair done and one fo the BM's got her make up done (with only 2 ladies working ) we took almost 2 hours. We grabbed a bit to eat and was back at my room to get dressed and put make up on at 1:20 weddign at 2pm. Boys met WC at 1:45 to get flowers put on and be brought down to the beach. She dropped our flowers off and came back to get us at 2 (ish) we walked down to the beach (2 min away) and the ceremony started. They have a arch there decorated with flowers and it is quite shady. Chairs were covered with bows tying them. Our backs were to the ocean and we faced the guests. The minister stood directly in front of us with the translator (WC) standing right next to him blocking most peoples view. They spoke quietly so many didn't hear them. After rings were exchanged we said our own vows which everyone could hear. We signed the book, had a toast got rice thrown at us (resorts custom) and took many pictures. We asked a friend of ours to take photos so hopefully I will see them soon. We met him back on the beach for sunset photos. Reception Dinner was at 8:30 at the Steakhouse. It was the normal a la carte menu with appetizers served buffet style. My three vegetarian guests got to eat off the Italian menu. Everyone loved the food. They set our tables off in our own "wing" of the resturant even though they could have sat probably 20 more people there. They set the tables up like a U so we had a head table. The flowers from the beach now decorated the tables. We were 31 all together. We had brought our docking station and Ipod and played it. Although everyone brought out there Ipods so our playlist didn't get played (oh well everyone had fun) we tipped the wait staff to stay late as they were off at 10:30 and we stayed until midnight. They provided a three tier wedding cake and it all worked out well. We had our first dance and didn't tell anyone that it was a dance mix. Starting off slow then moving through 5 fast songs which we danced to. It was really fun. It started with the Calling then the Oh oh oh of Kung fu fighting...so silly, but a blast. I will post pics when I can. But that's it so far!!
  8. Hello Ladies!! Am I the first Jan bride back and online?? I am going to post a review (while working -I am so bad) but I thought I would let you all know that it was absolutely wonderful, stress free, beautiful, not a hitch. We all made the right choice going away I wouldn't have done it any other way!!
  9. Well ladies I am off in 12 hours!! I didn't get everything done I wanted to, but that's OK. I would love to stuff the OOT bags with everything, but I have no idea how it would all get down there. Our airline (Skyservice) allows for one carry on at 15lbs,(Plus a wedding dress) and two bags at 44lbs. Sounds like a lot, but with us travelling with my 1 year old and three year old it is amazing how much stuff we have packed. I have 15 OOT bags in one giant luggage with the other five spread out into the others. I am taking a total of 8 pieces of luggage!! I can't even imagine what I am forgetting. Thank you everyone for all the help adn tips asnd support and...just an ear to listen to. I am not sure how I cold have done it without you. I am a pretty laid back bride to be, I have no idea what my hair is going to look like, I have no idea of the songs being played during the ceremony, I am not done my vows, I have no idea what two of my BM's are wearing....I assume it will all come together. Bye guys and I will give a full pic-full account when I get back!! oh yeah - My sister arrived last week (she is doing 2 weeks) and told me U2 is playing another resort (not sure which) on New Year's eve!! Cool huuh.
  10. I haven' been avoiding you ladies...Ok I have, I can't get on this site for only a few minutes. It sucks me in then an hour has passed and I have so many thngs to do. My list left (yes I leave in 11days!!) -Guest book pages (I am die cutting out beach things like star fish shells and each guest is going to write a note on it which I am putting in a scrap book when I get home next to a pic of them at the wedding) -ring shell -conversion charts for OOT bags so people can quickly see how much they are really paying for things - scavenger hunt -write vows -tags and labels for OOT bag stuff -finish up welcome books -personlize travel mugs -foot jewlery - music list (Ipod being downloaded by FI) -add bead jewels to flower girl dresses. -pack me and my two daughters and FI OK more then I thought but none of them take long, but with my Christmas list just as long I need to get going!! Light a fire under my a@# please someone.
  11. Well said Julia, and your right not everyone will agree with you (and me) Harper was also trying to revoke people's right to strike and not allow for owed back pay. FI is in an union without a contract for three years, Whatever your opinion is of unions they have been around while and to change it like that is going to have backlash. Maybe they should suspend government for a month to allow everyone to cool off and get all the facts straight. I just don't want to see the attack ads. This coalition agreement has already changed the face of Canadain politics, lets take and moment to understand fully what it means.
  12. Here is where I am at, man does time sneak up on you. I am looking for a seamstress to do the alterations on my dress (the store I bought it at closed). Finish up OOT bags and foot jewlrey. All these things need to be done our at least in the woks by Friday!! I have started to write my vows. I wan't planning on doing it right now but FI is out hanging Christmas lights and I got inspired. Anyone else writing there own??
  13. It is interesting and scary that, really, our vote didn't count for much. I did not vote Cons. in the last election so my opinion my be different then others. Here is my take, I am sick of going to the polls, how many times in how many years? how can any government get anything else done while dealing with this?? Dion will now be incharge when his own party doesn't have any faith in him. I am curious to see how this plays out and what it really means for us. On a side note I have never seen the government ban together like this, maybe it will be good having three different points of view running things.

  15. Well I personally think I would be fine to do both, that's our plan. We checked with our hotel and they said that there would be time for us to say our own vows around the ring exchange. I don't think any of our guests even speak spanish so they wouldn't know if we are repeating anything the minister said. Go for it!
  16. I have enjoyed many excursions when I have travelled in the past. This is my first time travelling down south with my girls. I have a three year old and a one year old (just). Any suggestions on what I do if I want to take them with me like to the Water park? I wasn't planning on bringing carseats, and I realize that laws are different there, but I still want to be safe. I also know some excursion use giant greyhound type buses but what if I have to travel by small car (taxi) or van? Has anyone travelled with little ones and has a suggestion for me?
  17. We are walking down and away to Israel Kamakawiwo's version of Somewhere over the Rainbow and What a beautiful world. It was in 50 first dates.
  18. First off I am incrediably sorry. What a stupid post I made. I am apparently so self absorbed that I took not consideration into everyone else who is booked with Air transat. I did not mean to freak anyone else, I certainly did not want to add even an ounce of stress to anyone here. SORRY I was just looking for information that I had heard through another TA. And recieving an email saying to get a hold of my TA ASAP made me nervous. My TA wanted to talk about another subject and she had not heard anything about Air transat. She is checking into to it just in case. Oopps sorry guys
  19. Has anyone heard if flights are being cancelled from Canada to Mexico and the DR with Air transit? I got an email from my TA saying to call her immediately, of course I get this after she has left for the day (not sure why she didnt' just call me) and a friend of ours called saying Air Transit flights are being cancelled due to the economy? Anyone got information about this. I will contact TA first thing in the morning but I thought I would try here. I leave for the DR in one month!
  20. I have mentioned this in another post but we used points to get most of our OOT stuff. I get points at my Shoppers Drug Mart for all my purchases and try to save my purchases for a 20x the points days. In a year I have earned $400 in free stuff. I also earn points at my grocery store. The only things we paid cash for is travel mugs and the bags ($1 store). You can do the bags at a limited budget you just have to be creative. (also helps to spread out the cost).
  21. OK I am not a computer person and do not know a DJ. Does anyone know how or where I can get a first dance song that has been sliced together with some funky dance songs (ie..the twist, macarena, cotton eyed joe...). Any suggestions would be great.

  23. I have had no contact with the wedding coordinator yet! yikes! A friend of mine is going to be our photographer. He is great with a camera and fantastic with photoshop so I am happy. He is also my BM's hubby so he was coming anyways. Hee hee. Bachatbride told you of the bad review of the hotel photographer eh? Date is coming quick. All our paperwork is done and faxed off. They let us know there were some mistakes with FI birth certificate translation so we are dealing with that right now. Of course they didn't say what the issues were so hopefully the consulate will be able to fix it. Where are you at in planning?
  24. I am trying to keep cost down. So we have been using store points to purchase most of the contents. We get points at a drug store and our superstore grocery store. So far for the 20 bags we have spent about $70 (which includes the bag and a travel mug per person among other things)
