Ok... instead of hijacking NYJen's thread, I will start my own...

So I leave for Jamaica in 1 week... and today we find out that FI's family and friends are considering 'surprising' us in Jamaica by finally booking their travel! Who does that?!?!?! We've made our final payments based on our guestlist... do they expect there to be enough food? We're at a small resort - not someplace this might not be an issue. Our cake is based on the number of guests. Our champagne is based on a certain number of people... not to even get into our OOT bags! You can't just crash a destination wedding!

It may not happen, but we're looking at 2-6 people just randomly showing up! If it was different people we'd just tell them they were no longer invited, but its my FI's dad, uncle and good friends - all of whom could not be bothered to book their travel and suddenly decided they MAY (not even definitely but may) be coming! I doubt anyone will book, but even the thought of it is making me mad!

Thats definitely annoying! You're good though cuz I would surely, surely find someway to let them know that it's too late & additional guests can not come!! I know you said its FI's dad & uncles, but still, I'd find someway to let them know how annoyed you are!!!

Is your FI as mad as you are?

They don't get OOT bags. That is their fault they decided to surprise you. Also, do not worry about the cake or champange, there will be enough, there is always left overs.

As for food and stuff, can you advise your WC that it is possible that more people might show? I know that would not have matter for us because we did not give our final total count till we got there. So it might not be a big deal for you either.

If its men surprising you, are you shocked by this, men just don't think about these things and plans and that kinda thing. On a bright note, I am sure FI would be so happy that his dad is there for his wedding. I am sure you can fit them in.

I would not make them OOT bags though, its there fault for booking late, not yours, do not stress about it. It will all work out.

GGGGRRRRRRRR!!! Don't stress.. like you said, it probably won't happen anyhow. People have a serious way of irritating an already stressed/bride. They're lucky they're so close to you guys or you could go bridezilla on them!

I would have FH make it clear (even if it's ever so subtly) that anyone who isn't already on the guest list won't be able to be a formal part of the reception b/c of catering issues that can't be changed. I would't say they aren't welcome, but that there are deadlines that had to be bet adn while you would love for them to be there that there is no way to add to that part of it at this late date.

As for OOT bags, I would ssoo not worry about that at all.

Sounds like they would be makng it more of a vacation for themselves rather than a welcome surprise for you two anyway.

So, I would make no special effort to try to accommodate -- but I think I would say they are welcme to go.

Do they know that you know about the possible "surprise" b/c if not you can always play dumb and have the WC explain the situation if they show up.

                    i'm such a bitch
no oot bags, and make sure that during the reception, you ask them if they've had enough to eat...say you were worried b/c you had paid for XXX and then the last minute guests REALLY threw off your food estimates....then smile and walk away.

didn't we just talk about how people suck?!
