I second what AllieH said - I planned on wearing my hair half up/half down, and was even leaning more towards having it mostly down before the wedding, but when we got there and it was windy, I basically just let the hairdresser do what he wanted. He put it all up and I am SO glad that he did! It was so hot when dancing, I know that my hair would've bothered me, sticking to my neck and then I didn't have to worry about it blowing around at all.

Definitely a good idea to have ideas of one up do and one other do, just in case!

I was married January 2012 in Jamaica and I wore my hair half up/half down.  I hate hate hate the way my hair looks all up and knew I wanted it down.  The compromise was half up/half down.  Yes, it was windy by the beach but I never felt like my hair was in my face and it was really secure and didn't move a bit.  I was worried about curls not holding well with the humidity but they had this amazing spray (they call it cement spray) which literally made my curls not move at all.  Also, if you are wearing your hair half up/half down, make sure you stand on the appropriate side during the ceremony so your hair will be blowing away from your face, rather then in it.

I guess it really comes down to the weather at your ceremony location...So having an open mind about either option would be the best approach. I know my fiance mentioned he would just love to see me with my hair as it normally looks - nothing too crazy or intricate - So it's nice to know there are not big expectations with how my hair should look. I can just go for whatever is most functional the week/day of!

I am planning on wearing my hair all down for the ceremony, with a veil. I am getting married a little off the beach though, in the garden area and think the wind will be less troublesome there. I thought about sweeping it all to one side with a pretty clip on the other (kind of like the old hollywood curls), it could help keep the hair from blowing all crazy. And then before the reception starts I will have my hairdresser sister put my hair up in a less complicated, more natural way so I wont get too hot dancing. This is what i am HOPING for :)

Also on hairspray- Paul Mitchell has a "Finishing Spray" from the awapuhi line and it is amazing. For up or down it gives shine but has serious hold without build up or stiffness. If you are thinking of doing a more natural curl as well, they have this sea salt spray that goes on first when wet, then finish it with the hair spray and it gives pretty beach waves.

  • 2 months later...

Everyone's advice is great!!!  I don't know how I missed the postings on this thread!  I've been so busy making decisions for the wedding over the past 2 months, that I haven't spent much time on here.  I'm not a big fan of my hair being up either, so I'm really thinking about doing half up and half down now with LOTS of hairspray!!  I'm also thinking about getting some clip-in extensions to give my hair more weight.  I'm going to start looking for some pictures to post on here :)

I was feeling the same way before my wedding. I was just kinda leaving it up to the last minute to see how the weather was. I really wanted to wear my hair down or half up but was worried about the humidity (I have frizzy hair) and ind. But in the end I decided to go for it! I did my hair myself with the help of my BMs and used A LOT of Kenra hairspray and texture powder to hold it. I also pinned the curls right after I curled it to add some more hold.

My advice is curl it A LOT tighter than you want it, lots of hairspray (bring extra with you), and consider pinning some of it back so it doesn't blow in your face in case of wind.  Here are some pics:

What it looked like after I took the pins out and before I pinned it back (the curls dropped a little not long after going out side).

And this was the finished product:)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
