My travel agent is affiliated with romantictravel.ca.  I don't feel like the prices we got were any better than any other travel agent could get, but I am liking the service I'm getting from my agent, and the freebies that come along with the package.  It's also nice to have the agent coordinating travel for my guests, so that I do not have to do it!  Without a travel agent I'd be more concerned about things like flight times, transportation to the resort and keeping track of everyone who has booked.  Every time someone else books for the trip, she calls me and lets me know.  (she also calls me before she books them to make sure I want them to be there, since I didn't give her a guest list)

I agree with Torilynn....choosing a travel agent is VERY important. I unfortunately ended up with one that was awful and made my planning process a nightmare. In retrospect I should have gone with itravel2000.com; they had the same prices and had good customer service....I just opted for one with more 'freebies' which was my own fault.

Make sure that you shop around as you will find there are big price differences. We had a $300+ range on our rates all for the exact same trip but different carriers. Also, ALWAYS ask for a group rate if you know you have enough people. We saved about $200pp with the group rate from Air Canada Vacations. Finally, if you find the best rate with a TA that isn't your first pick....don't settle for that TA....many places will price match.

Oh...also make sure you ask about what promotions each TA, carrier AND hotel offer for weddings as well as what the restrictions are. We were lucky and ended up with promotions through each including upgrades to first class! :)

Oh, I agree...now is the time to do your homework and look at all options.  We were planning to go with Marlin Travel as they give airmiles and those could really add up when it comes to booking a holiday for a family of four!  But we didn't feel we were getting great customer service from their most senior agent, so we switched to another local agency and a woman that specializes in/loves to plan destination weddings.  She really went to bat for us when we got screwed by Transat Holidays (we picked the EXACT week we wanted to go, then Transat tells us they're flying Friday to Friday instead of Sunday to Sunday from our city...which meant people would have had to take an extra day off work, and because of the waiting period to marry in Mexico, people would have been flying out the morning after the wedding...SORRY, not having that!).  She got everything priced matched...and got us a better deal in the end actually.  She is NOT afraid to pick up the phone and call the resort/wedding planner for us.  And personally, I like being able to drop by and sit down across from her when I need to to hash things out.  My brain processes information better that way ; )

Our guests were also welcome to connect with their own agent or book online.  One couple out of 15 ended up doing that.  We just didn't get the credit for their bookings (with our agent/tour operator, for every 10 adults that booked, the 11th one was free).

I put in my order with Bloom Bridals that is in Toronto. I know a lot of brides have tried getting shipment dates from other vendors like Angel's Accents and they are completely booked until next March!

My shipment date from Toronto is Dec. 10th with 3-4 business days for delivery. I will post a photo once I get my proof. Judy has been great to deal with, responds quickly to emails and her work looks great! Just thought I would share.

As for travel agents, I emailed a bunch of travel agents. I responded to the first few that responded to me, and then went by speediness and efficiency of communication, and deal. I am actually going with a local travel agent here, but we are the only ones in the area, and everyone else is going to be booking by phone/online. So, communication was very important. We are just beginning our planning, but are really happy so far. Research!

Both are great, but I really like the first one - so easy to wear again too!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
