Tungsten carbide rings are available in black. Tungsten is nice b/c it's virtually indestructible, have a nice weight (as opposed to titanium), and are unique. But they are hard to engrave and not all jewelers carry them.

this page has some good examples of black ones:

he searched online for a while before he found it - i love it too!

just a warning though, don't order from that site where i got the picture from - they totally screwed us. to make a long story short, we didn't have the ring the day before we left for the wedding. even though they had promised and promised to have it, we didn't get it. we ended up running over to a Irish store in St. Paul, MN to find something, anything. we figured we'd have to get him a temporary ring, and then look for the "real" one later. and this store had this EXACT ring in a catalog! we had to order it from Ireland - but it actually came in in a few days, and my friend who came to Mexico a day before the wedding was able to pick it up and bring it to us. i can't believe it worked out!

  • 1 month later...

We just got my FI band and he went with Tungsten. It's pretty new and virtually indestructable...Funny story...

We went in to the jeweler to get our bands and hes like look at these tungsten rings they are the strongest metal out there they don't scratch and my FI loved them b/c of the smoky blackish color. And the jeweler took it out and said here I'll show you how it doesn't scratch. So he takes out the metal ring sizer cone thing and he takes the ring and it hits it once on it. The ring breaks in half. It was pure silence for a minute and then we all start laughing. I guess when they cast it it had a crack and the ring broke. Anyways my FI still got a tungsten ring and it doesnt scratch it's really pretty and he loves the color.

Now they do engrave tungsten but you MUST go to a fine jewelere to dod it. The only thing that can engrave or scratch it is is diamond. There are some online stores offering tungsten rings engraved but the jeweler we talked to said they would too. So it depends.

I really like the Tungsten bands. I want to order Mike's from Diamond jewelry, wedding ring, engagement rings, jewelry diamonds, gold band (someone else posted it here). Mike doesn't want anything expensive, so I think these look great.

Carly, you're not behind at all. The jeweler thought I was doing it kinda early, but I was just so excited to get it. You should definitely check out Steven Singer on 8th and Walnut. I got such a great deal. That's where Mike got my e-ring too and he said they're so good to work with. Also, they offer you beer, wine, etc when you come in. I had a couple glasses of champagne there yesterday...sooo fun!

Hey Ann, which website did you have the issues with? I'm about to order Tom's ring and want to make sure the site I use isn't the same one. I've got it narrowed down to two sites.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
