Hey ndvidul,

I'm not sure what time you're getting married and the time fo year but just keep in mind (with your photographer) what time the sun sets. The lighting is so important! I was married at 5pm in June and we took pics on the beach during most of the cocktail hr. After that, we were supposed to go to another point for more pics but getting everyone up to the balcony where our reception was being held (as well as the multiple toasts) we missed some of the amazing pink clouds that were occurring at that time. We still were able to get amazing photos but I just wanted to point out the consideration the lighting and it might help you plan things around that :) It was completely our fault with the timing of speeches...sometimes you just have to go with the flow and we certainly didn't want to tell anyone to "wrap it up!!" pinkie.gif

Here were the skies during the toasts:

So, we are just going to have a cocktail hour after the wedding and then have a reception dinner at one of the restaurants.  For the cocktail hour, I'm planning to do the toasts and the first dance.  When do you think I should do these?

I was thinking to let people grab food and drinks and then 20 minutes in, do the toasts.  Then, 45 minutes in, do the first dance.

We'll do the cake cutting after dinner at the restaurant.

Thoughts?  Comments?  Ideas?  Thanks!!

I would like to share my WONDERFUL news with you.

I havenâ€t been on the forum for the last few months because of my Grandson who is a 1yr old. At one of his routine check up he was sleep and one of the doctorâ€s notice his breathing was irregular, so his pediatrician examine him asked his mother & my son tons of question. From that they had him schedule a sleep study for the next evening.  They had the study done, the next morning they were told that the baby needed emergency surgery to have his tonsils removed because they are too large and was affect his breathing while he slept. Ok so I get a frantic call from son saying I need to come to hospital now!!!!!  Get to the hospital and the other shoe drops; his white blood cell count is high very, so they explain before his surgery they want to do a CAT scan to make sure there is nothing else going on... The result showed a grapes size growth on his tonsil. My heart drop for my son and his girlfriend, so my grandson had biopsy done then the surgery was delayed until the result came back. So the next 24 hours were long but the hospital staff was great because Kaseem had visitor round the clock to that his parents wouldnâ€t get overwhelmed... So the results came back NO CANCER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There was not at dry eye in the room!!!!!!!!!!  Kaseem had surgery which was a success!!!!

He went back today for his follow-up check and received clean bill of health!!!!!!!!!!!

I AM THE HAPPIEST GRANDMA ON EARTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU LADIES FOR LETTING ME SHARE!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a great idea!  However; to shake things up a bit why not immediately start off with your first dance, toast can follow and then people can eat eat eat... until the reception dinner.  Okay you know I'm not the traditional one LOL

Yes, actually.  We were going to pay the $240 or whatever for a player for the cocktail hour (the ceremony's player is apparently complimentary), BUT we figured why not pay that money here for like a great BOSE iPod system and just bring it down... that way, we get a sweet setup for home too, and we know how it works?  The FI is in charge of acquiring this since electronics are his thing... crossing my fingers!  What do you plan on doing?

That's AWESOME that so many people have booked, Jamie!  Congrats!! I know you were concerned about this.  Must feel so great!

I didn't know there was a Tucan Garden!  Do you happen to have any pics?

Our wedding is at 4pm, and the cocktail hour starts at 5pm.  We were going to take our pictures after the ceremony and before the cocktail hour and then just have the photographer take pictures of people at the cocktail hour (kind of like a reception... since we won't be having a reception nor will we have a photographer after the cocktail hour).   MAYBE though.... we'll spend more time taking pics and then enter fashionably late and do the First Dance right away like you and Coco said... I kind of like that since it's unique and dramatic, hehe.  Oooooh, I'm excited!  I like the idea of toasts at dinner.  Makes more sense and doesn't try to squeeze in too much for the cocktail hour either.  THANK YOU for your input!

I feel so out of the loop!!!  I have been sick for the past couple days and I didn't even have the energy to check this site! (GASP!!!)  I hope everyone is doing well and is having a good week.  As for me, we now have 19 people plus FI and booked and are at 52 nights!  There are a few more people that have said they are coming and want to spend the week there, which would put us at 73 nights!  If that miraculously happens FI and I will purchase the rest of the nights, as it's worth is money wise!  So, here's hoping!  But regardless, FI and I are thrilled that our immediate families and the groomsman have booked.

Also, I think we finally have our locations.  We got Tucan Gazebo for the ceremony, Tucan garden for cocktail hour and tucan terrace for wedding reception.  I really wanted Venando Terrace for the reception, but of course it's taken.  But it's all good, everything will just be really close for our guests!!!

So below I am going to respond to you guys!!!  HUGS!

Thinking about you, but I have more to say below!!!  :)

Don't stress, everything will come together and will be great.  Things always tend to work themselves out!  One day at a time girl!!!

I am sorry to hear this Coco, I know we all look forward to seeing what you have created.  However, I am also sorry to hear that there is friction between FI, you and his daughter.  I can imagine how you feel.  I don't have any children, but I do happen to have a younger sister who is 11 years younger than me and gets EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING she wants.  It drives me crazy.  My dad hasn't given us money for our wedding but he just her a 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee.  I saw red for a couple days because he said he would give us money and still hasn't!  It's so frustrating to sit there while certain people never learn life lessons!  I really hope you guys can work it out, so there isn't any ill will towards one another and the daughter!!!  I am very sorrry!

On a lighter note, though, YAY about the dog!  You must post pix when you pick him/her out!!!!  If you ever need to vent some more you know we are here and you have my personal e-mail too!  Don't be afraid to use it, if you need to!!!!

Those look so great! LOVE THEM!!! I haven't decided about foot jewelry, but if I do, I am sold on  Chelsea!

YAY YAY YAY!!!  Ok, here is where I will selaborate on my above comment!  I am so happy to hear that the little man is going to be ok and is cancer free!  That must be the biggest relief and I am so happy that things turned out for the better!

Are you starting the cocktail hour later?  I ask, because of pictures.  Will you and FI take pictures after the ceremony during cocktail hour?  I assume you thought of this.  But, I think I would want to do the 1st dance first, so when you walk in everyone is all there and paying attention.  Then I think you should do speeches a few minutes afterward.

What I would do, and this is just my opinion and it's all personal preference. I would

1.  Come into cocktail hour and have our first dance right after we enter

2.  I would wait on toasts and do them at dinner.

But I like to wait to for things like that, because for me, it keeps the momentum and fun coming.

Great point about this, Chelsea.  I just looked, and on Feb 18, 2012, the sun will set at 5:47pm... and in June, it usually sets around 7:30... LOL!!  What time was your cocktail hour, and when were those amazing pink clouds happening do you think?  Trying to plan this all around making sure the lighting is great since pics are like number 1 importance for me!!!  (Scrapbooking queen!)

Our cocktail hour is scheduled for 5pm, and like I said above, we were planning on doing pics around 4:30... and may extend it more.  We only have our photographer for 3 hours, and I was going to use him for 1 hour before the wedding of us all getting ready, 1 hour of ceremony + pics, and 1 hour cocktail.  BUT depending on the lighting situation...  I could just ask for like 30 min of us all getting ready so we have 30 minutes after the cocktail hour for pics, too..... any input would be great!

Any ladies on here know if when you book using a membership if you get a complimentary mani & pedi???? I just contacted Karla to book these types of things + hair & make-up for me, and she mentioned something to this effect.  Also said that my bridesmaids might get this too since we've all booked under membership...  crossing my fingers!

So beautiful to hear wondrous news like that and it reminds us all to be grateful for the most important things like the health of the ones we love and put the petty nonsense that seems to come with our weddings where they belong and not fret so. God bless your Grandson ;)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
