Oryx  - love the cake lol.

I bought Wii fit plus for Xmas actually the cat and dog bought it for me lol.  its still in the box, but my plan today is to finally open the box and hook up the Wii, we bought a new TV and put the old one in the basement and thats where we are going to hook up all the game systems.

I have to stay focused, when I ordered my dress, my waist was the next size up but my other measurements where the smaller size, to go up a size would of been more money (I had already gone past my budget), so I ordered the smaller size.  so I have to lose 3 inches off my waist. This is what is motivating me. I know I can do it, I have done it in the past. I may have to go on the Canadian show buldging brides if I fail!

Haha, love the cake!  In college, I was a part of the Resident Living Council and we organized a few events here and there.  One was a cake decorating contest.  At the time, I was taking an accelerated evening course (so I could graduate in 3 years instead of 4... I was so broke I couldn't afford a fourth year!), so I missed most of the event.  I came in at the last minute, grabbed one of the chocolate cake pans, skillfully carved it into the first shape I could think of and put a little white frosting at the tip and called it a day.  Since it was a private Catholic college, I got looks of horror and also looks of appreciation from the other students there.  However, mine was not nearly as detailed as your cake!!

Christine - LOVE Bulging Brides.  That show is pretty awesome. I love that they make the bride's enablers go through a workout punishment too!  I ordered my wedding dress in the slightly smaller size too, but my waist was only 1/2 an inch too small when I ordered it.  I found a shop in the area that had a sample in the size I ordered and I tried it on a week and a half ago.  If anything, the waist needs to be brought in a little!!! However, I realized that I really need to tone up my shoulders and back, because it was not looking gorgeous from the back angle.

For you Wii Fit-ers out there, I would recommend trying out the EA Active 2 for the Wii as well.  I like it better than the Wii Fit Plus game and I think it gives a better workout over all.  However, the Wii Fit game gives more yoga and balance stuff which I do appreciate.  I'm also really loving the dance game my sister got me for Kinect.  It breaks down all the dance moves and then grades you on how well you put them together.  I miss going out dancing and this is a fun way for me to learn new moves and get some movement in.  I have to admit that after doing some of the songs on hard, I was a little sore the next day.

Speaking of being sore.... I am super sore today.  Xbox kicked my butt!

I agree with the ladies, fab cake!!

I just thought I'd share a recipe that I enjoy, and seems to be pretty healthy.  It's Spicy Taco Soup.  Bon Apetite!!

Ingredients:

1 lb ground beef

1 onion, chopped

2 14.5 oz cans Diced Tomatoes with green chilies

2 15 oz cans Pinto Beans (drained)

1 15 oz can Black beans (drained)

1 15 oz can Cream-style corn

1 package ranch style dressing mix

1 package taco seasoning

1 cup water (or broth) optional

Instructions:

Brown beef with onions in a medium soup pot.  Drain excess grease.  Add remaining ingredients, stir and simmer for 20 mins.  If it seems a little thick, you can add some beef broth or water to it while it's simmering.

8 servings of about 1 1/2 cups each

281.5 calories per serving

I've found that any recipe that calls for ground beef can be easily substituted with ground Boca (usually right next to the Boca patties) without making any huge sacrifice to the quality of the meal.  It reduces your fat (even from lean beef) significantly and calories too.  In addition, the ground Boca soaks up surrounding flavor better than beef, so sometimes the taste is even better.

Any time we make taco salad, we ditch the beef for Boca.

THE BENEFITS OF LOSING 5 PERCENT Losing just 5 percent of your body weight doesn't sound like much, but it could mean you're well on your way to dropping a dress size. Aside from looking better and feeling more energetic, there are significant health benefits, too. You canâ€t always see or feel them, but they are very important nonetheless. Breaking your weight loss journey into small steps of 5 percent-10 percent will help to keep you motivated. For most people 5 percent is enough to reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Your weight-loss success may also mean that you help to lower your blood pressure. There are many other health benefits, too – research has shown that a loss of 5 percent–10 percent of your starting body weight can make a real difference. Health Benefits • Lowers your bodyâ€s cholesterol levels • Can improve blood sugar control • Reduces aches and pains • Improves mobility • Can improve your breathing • Helps you to sleep better • Reduces the risk of sleep apnea • Helps prevent angina – chest pain caused by decreased oxygen to the heart. • Decreased your risk of sudden death from heart disease or stroke • May stop the need from regular medication • Reduces the risk of certain cancers Your emotional health will also benefit hugely. People who have lost 5 percent-10 percent of their body weight report improvements in quality of life, a noticeable reduction in depression symptoms, increased energy, plus a more positive attitude to life. Little by little When it comes to weight loss, some people are unduly hard on themselves. They feel that they wonâ€t be truly happy until they have lost three or four times the amount necessary to start seeing a difference. The trick is to be realistic about your weight-loss goals and how long it will take to achieve them. Donâ€t discount the small losses youâ€ve accomplished either – they are very significant and should be used to spur you on. Trying to lose too much too quickly can undermine your efforts and actually work against you, and is more likely to result in your weight yo-yoing, which is detrimental to your progress. Breaking your weight-loss journey into small, manageable steps will help to keep you motivated. If you have a lot of weight to lose, reaching Goal may seem like a daunting task, but having a set of measurable targets will help you to stay on track and keep you focused. As you achieve each goal, it will give you that all-important momentum to increase your level of motivation still further to keep going and achieve your Goal weight. Pass the plateaus Use small goals to work past a plateau. When people become familiar with their food plan, itâ€s sometimes easy to develop a lax attitude. Refocus by setting small goals.

    • Unfortunately, pregnancy yoga training is a time of extreme. It's all part of the deal; even the stress is often a normal effect of the hormones that are raging through your system. But you have to keep stress at a controlled level because you have to think of your health and that of your baby. Here are some tips on how to keep stress at bay during pregnancy: 1. Evaluate your activities. Pregnancy is a time of many changes; your body is changing and your life is also about to change. You are transitioning to becoming a new mother. While you're at it, it's high time to change your activities as well. Evaluate your activities by checking your schedule. Perhaps you lived quite a busy life before. That can be pretty stressful and may even put your pregnancy at risk, so it would be best to slow things down a bit now that you're pregnant. Pregnancy has its way of affecting your mood and making you feel tired all the time, so there will be times when you just won't be productive. So instead of piling up on tasks, choose activities that you can drop or delegate to someone else. 2. Break the bad habits. Whether you really were trying to get pregnant or pregnancy crept up on you, somewhere along the way you will face the need to break your bad habits. What are these notorious bad habits you definitely have to say goodbye to during your pregnancy? · Smoking · Alcohol consumption · Too much coffee or any other beverage that contains caffeine One good way of breaking bad habits, even ones that you've had for years, is subliminal programming. Subliminal programming means re-training the mind; it works in two steps: · Removing negative embedded factors in the subconscious Since this method communicates directly with the subconscious, which is responsible for directing our actions and behaviors, it is more effective than consciously deciding to stop smoking or drinking. 3. Take up meditation. If you haven't tried it before, now is the best time to take up meditation. There are many tips and instructions online as well as many books on the subject. You can learn it on your own or join a meditation class. Meditation is the art of emptying the mind to relax both the mind and the body. It is also very effective in regulating emotions, which can be hard to control when you're pregnant. If you have plenty of time to spare, join a yoga class. 4. Block the horror stories. Every woman who's been pregnant loves telling her pregnancy stories to non-pregnant or newly pregnant women. It's their way of saying "welcome to the club." While good advice is particularly helpful, most women tend to share horror stories, or stories of how stressful and emotional pregnancy was for them. You may also use subliminal messages to train your mind to block these negative stories, so you can focus on the positive things about your pregnancy. There are many positive things, too, the biggest of which is the new life inside you, so you won't run out of good thoughts to nurture in your mind.   Safe and Easy Workouts to Do During Your Pregnancy The main rule of thumb when exercising while pregnant is to modify your workouts to suit the trimester you are in and to honor what is happening to your body. What is deemed appropriate for your first trimester is certainly not for your third trimester. However, there are several exercises that you can perform right through to the end. Let's examine the first trimester. You are just beginning your nine-month journey. You may be feeling a bit more tired, perhaps queazy, but you may not even be showing a baby bump yet. At this time, if you have already had a workout program in place, you can continue with what you've been doing.  Some doctors may not advise any lying down exercises at any time during your pregnancy, but speak with your physician to determine if this modification is necessary. Appropriate exercise for the first trimester: • your normal routine (within limits) • walking • swimming • low impact aerobics (keeping heart rate low) • strength training • yoga As you move into your second trimester, you may be feeling a surge of energy but your body is showing the pregnancy more and certain workouts may not feel as good. Around this time, lying down is not totally recommended and keeping heart rate low and core body temperature low is important. The importance of abdominal and pelvic floor strength should be highlighted throughout your pregnancy, so if you haven't already started, Kegal exercises should be implemented in all workouts you do. What is a Kegal? The pelvic floor muscles are like a hammock of muscles located at the base of your torso and under your pelvis. To do a Kegal, simply engage the muscles that you would use to urinate. Keeping these muscles strong may make for an easier birth and less pregnancy related incontinence. Appropriate exercise for the second trimester: • Kegal exercises • pelvic tilts (with head elevated with pillows) • walking • swimming • easy yoga • strength training (lighter weights) As you move into your third trimester, you are now getting to the top of your pregnancy weight which may change the way you stand, how long you can sit, and your sense of balance. Aches and pains from your changing body are probably felt more now. Workouts now become about making you comfortable and making sure you simply maintain what you have. A safe abdominal exercise, which also makes your back feel great, is an all-fours cat stretch and contraction. To do: on a rug or sticky mat, go down onto hands and knees. Keeping back straight, simply pull your abdominals in towards your spine without altering the straight position of your back.. Repeat 10 times. From there, round your back up, like an angry cat, feeling a stretch over your shoulders and spine, then release. Repeat 5 times. Prenatal yoga is great for elevating your mood, may help you sleep better, and decreases pregnancy aches and pains. Just make sure you speak with your doctor first and remember to never start a new program while pregnant. Keeping up with what you're doing is super and will make for an easier birth and a faster recovery.
