We had drama with the date. We wanted July 19, 2008 and had it set. But when we found out there was event in town we had to change it. The rooms were a 4 night min. at 500 dollars a night. Who would pay that to come to the wedding?? No one. I would have a problem paying that for the room. The cost was just the room nothing else. So we changed the date.

We chose 12/6/08 because our wedding date had to be divisable by 3 since 3 represents a lot for us....we are both 3's in our frat & sorority lines, God (the Father)-Son-Holy Ghost, completion, stability, etc. Also, our original date of 1/3/09 was too expensive for us & our guests since that's New Year's weekend.

We chose 2.14.09 because it will be very easy to rememeber. It's a long weekend in 2009 and I think it will be so romantic to celebrate our anniversary on a day made for love for the rest of our lives. On a side note, Dean does not believe in Valentine's Day, so it;s also a way for me to get a good present on v-day form now on too !!

The main reason we chose May of 2009 was because myself, my sister and a childhood friend all are in school next year and so we wanted everybody to be done for the summer so we could have some fun!

It also helps that May is a cheaper time of year to go!

We initially wanted different dates but we kept having different reasons as to why those times didn't work (ie. exams, Christmas, the weather etc...) When we made our travel arrangements and deposits the TA couldn't give us a 100% for sure time of departure, because it was so far in advance she said the departure date could vary by a day or two and we have people coming from all over Canada, the US and Europe. So we picked a date that was right in the middle of the week. We figured rarely will charter flights leave on a tuesday or wed, so a wednesday for our wedding should be a safe bet.

Mine is complicated...We were actually planning our wedding for Dec. 6 2008. It was going to be a local wedding, it was close to Dec. 1 (the day we got engaged) and we were going with a Christmas theme.

            Then I lost my job.

We decided a local wedding was too much $$ and a destination wedding was acutally our first choice to begin with. A lot of poeple close to us are in the NYC public school system. We didn't want them to have to take off, but we also didn't want to get married when the resort would be filled with kids.

So we settled on Jan 17, 2009 because a) it's only about a month after our first date and B) it's Martin Luther King Jr. weeked. A lot of people have a 3 day weekend.

We picked 7-11 cause we have a lot of weird coincidences with those numbers, I weighed 7 lbs, 11oz when I was born, when we bought the Jeep and the plates arrived it was 711-WDC so we thought haha, "Lucky With Doug C.", we go to the drive-in movies a lot in the summer and the kids love to stop in at 7-11 and get goodies (ok, that reason is a reach ), and also because we just thought that 10 months was a long way away when we got engaged (ha! what a joke!) and i really wanted a july wedding, the 11th was on a friday and it happened to be the only date avail at the venue :)

We chose our date for a number of reasons. When we first started talking about our wedding, we were assuming it would be local, and we both loved the idea of a fall wedding. Once we decided on a DW, it didn't matter as much about the season (not exactly changing leaves in the fall in Hawaii LOL!), but we both still like the idea of fall, because we often take our big holiday in the fall. We chose Oct 4 because it's the weekend before Canadian Thanksgiving. I had a real thing about not wanting to dictate for other people what they were doing on the holiday weekend, because my FI's parents' anniversary is on July 1 (Canada Day), and I find it incredibly annoying that they think that means we should always go visit them for the long weekend just because it's their anniversary. I know that sounds silly, but they're so annoying about it and I complain to my FI about it so much, that I thought I'd be a huge hypocrite if we turned around and had our wedding on a long weekend! We figured that people could potentially still benefit from the long weekend though, because most of them are planning on coming to Hawaii for a week and then they'll have the extra day for the holiday Monday. We chose a Saturday because my sister is a teacher and it's hard for her to take much holiday time during the school year, so this way, I figured that if need be, she could just take the Friday off. Last but not least, or wedding is one week before my 30th birthday, and I thought it would be pretty cool to be in Hawaii on our honeymoon for my 30th! That, and I liked the idea of still being 29 on my wedding day. Totally silly, but oh well, just a nice little added bonus!
