Oh and I dont plan on having an actual AHR because I figure it ends up being just like a real wedding would be. The most I plan on doing when we get home is hosting a bbq in our new backyard.

We are looking at houses right now and I think it would be great to have a housewarming/congrats on your wedding party for all those people we love :)

Congrats Amanda, and welcome!

This is a great forum for any and all your needs/questions.

It has helped me so far (and I've still got 10mths to go).

We looked at Dominican, Mexico and Cuba. Decided against Cuba just with the way the weather has been it was too iffy for Jan/Feb.

We decided on Panama, as it was "different" hot! and cheaper.

My suggestion is to figure out a timeframe you want to go. Based on that decide where you'd like to go (Pick a few) then pick the top resorts that you like from there.

Narrow it down to 3 or 4 and go from there.

Don't worry too much about what you "think" other people will want. In the end it's your day

Cheers,

Hello Fellow Ottawa Bride,

Picking the resort is the hardest part (I think). It took us 3 months to decide but it is certainly alot of fun researching and dreaming about all these places. This forum is so helpful and has lots of great information that will make it easier for you.

Happy planning!

Good luck with the planning of your destination wedding!! My only advice to you is once you've picked your resort, don't wait to long to contact the resort to choose your wedding date. That is the only thing that we really had a problem with...everything books up really fast! Let me know if you have any questions!

I'm a Canadian newbie too! I'm planning on Feb 2011 in Jamaica, and I feel so disorganized reading the forums, it seems so many brides know EXACTLY what they want and I have no idea!
