I don't see what the problem is. If there's any chance of saving money you should jump at the chance!!! And then if you could stay at your parents house for 6 months free you could save more than enough for a down payment. imagine if you could save that $1700 for six months??

I say live free in your parents house while you can and save up. and as Bachatabride said make sure youre putting the money aside because its so easy to say well i do have extra money so i can do x but remember your saving for a purpose so just put it in another account. good luck

Thanks ladies!! I know the choice seems obvious, but the thought of finally having our own place is so great I think we'll stay for free and save!

Living free for a year is a great option. Just be careful, it might impact your relationship not only with hubby's family but also your relationship.

I agree with everyone, take your parents up on their offer. However, it may seem like you get along with your FI's father now but things change when you are living with someone. Everyone has their own pickyness and rules of conduct in their house. Not to mention it will be your first 6 months of marriage! But if you can handle it and look at the benefit you will gain, go for it. Good luck!

omg definately go with this!!! a year goes by soooo fast and you'll be saving a lot of $$$ for a down payment. plus your FI will hopefully have a job soon (fingers crossed) and you'll both be on your feet. I think it's a great way to star off. plus if you ever need your own space, you could sneak away to a hotel for a night or two and relive the honeymoon

Save all the money you can. Sounds like a good set up to me.

Definitely take the option to live for free for a year!! It'll allow you guys to save up stressfree and a year goes by so fast!
