No engagement ring syndrome

Recommended Posts

LOL, I thought I was the only one too.  My BF told me that I will have a ring by the end of this year, but we are talking about doing a DW in August 2011.  So basically I joined the site to learn more about DW and to find a location so that we can have a place secured before the end of the year.  I want my guests to have at least 8-10 months notice of the wedding so they can save and plan too.

It felt really awkward to start researching weddings because I felt everyone on here was already engaged or that I would get questioned by folks about not being engaged yet, but it feels good to know that I'm not alone.  I hope that everyone on this post gets their proposal soon.

Wow! I too thought I was the only one. I still haven't gotten the official down on bending knee proposal or the ring (we bought it but it sits in its box in his dresser and I do pull it out for special occassions). I have a "promise" ring that he gave me over two years ago, well, we bought it for a Christmas gift for someone else and he saw how much I loved it and said to keep instead as the "promise to get engaged ring". I still wear my promise ring, with pride, and am planning our wedding for next summer. He has gone ahead and had the talk with my dad, we are southern and this is a must to get married, and having the talk means you are engaged even if he hasn't officially popped the question or given you the ring. I don't know what my FH is waiting for, he already tells everyone we are getting married and is VERY involved in the planning! I guess guys just like to take their sweet time. I get comments all the time about how I don't have the ring yet but I've got everything planned for the wedding and already started the DIY projects. They can all bite me. I say it is what you feel in your hearts that matters. And a lot of women never get a real proposal or a ring. My sisters DH never really proposed. They talked about marriage, he bought a ring, she put it on. Of course two weeks before the wedding he did ask her to marry him over a candlelight dinner so I guess she did get it. I hope my FH doesn't wait that long!!

I thought I was the only one! I am so glad to have found you ladies on this thread! I too am in the midst of planning without a formal proposal or ring. I know both are coming (he's been saving for awhile and he's been rubbing my ring finger this week and just staring at it) but it does feel weird to plan a wedding without having an "official" fiance. We know we are going to be married next summer and I am a nervous wreck that we are starting to plan way too late. Hence me joining this site before the proposal.

I wish you all the proposals of your dreams (I want mine too), but don't forget the love your man shows you every day. That is way more important to me than any proposal story could ever be.

What's the saying, good things come to those who wait. Well I waited a long time for this wonderful man to appear, so I can patiently keep waiting for my official proposal and ring.

I did get a great proposal from my FI, but you're not alone.  When I asked my mom about her proposal this is what she said:  "Your Dad asked me what I wanted for Christmas, I said an engagement ring.  He said okay and got me one."  That's their great story!   The best part is that is really IS a great story.  They have an amazing marriage and I hope that my DH and I will be as happy and my parents.  My mom's new favorite quote: "its not the wedding (or in this case the engagement) that's important, it's the marriage that follows!"

Wow, glad to see I am not the ONLY girl out there without a RING!! Thanks for this post. It made me feel much better about planning a DW without a ring! We've been together almost 4 years and just bought a house 1.5yrs ago and got right into some major renos. So I can understand the delay in getting the ring....I know it will come soon. We at least went ring shopping and picked out the most amazing ring. Who knows maybe I'll get it for Xmas or New Years!! Keeping my fingers crossed.

The funniest thing about all of this is that men get to take days, weeks, months even YEARS to make this decision to propose to us, and yet we only have a moment to answer them YES! I think our responses should be "Hold on a second, I think I may need 4 YEARS to think about this"...LOL.

You ladies ROCK!!

I want to say this!!! My bf and I have a fun and sassy relationship. I think it would be appropriate. Even an answer of 'Maybe...let me wear the ring for a while and I'll think about it'

I'm sure I'll be too excited and will forget all of these preplanned responses!

Wow-My story is the same. He just bought my ring a few days ago. It's sent away for sizing now!!! We are waiting for his divorce papers to come back before offically getting engaged! My guy has been legally separated for 8 years, lol. I am tired of waiting and waiting too!

Years ago we talked and wanted to start a family instead of spending a lot of money on a wedding (definitely not a decision a lot of people understand!) But a year ago he actually proposed with a cheapy ring we'd had around and some ring pops, with the intention that I'd pick out my own ring. I didn't think I'd care until after hearing our engagement news people would immediately grab my hand to see my "new ring".

But then when I was looking for a ring it didn't feel right that so much would be spent on something just for me when we have a house and a daughter...so my SIL suggested a man made diamond and I really loved the idea. So I got this Diamond Nexus Labs Engagement Rings | Lab Created | Ornate Styles

It looks amazing, and theres no difference between a man made diamond or a mined diamond other than where it came from so noone can tell unless you actually tell them yourself. Maybe that's an idea you guys can afford, and you still get a really great ring.

I looked into DNL but I was afraid that you would be able to tell its not a mined diamond. I wish I had read this before...I would like to see a pic of your ring. It's hard to tell what they look like in real life. Last week my unofficial FI bought my .70 Caret Canadian Diamond Solatire ring. It's sent away for sizing now.

Wow.  I wish I had seen this earlier, I thought I was the only one!!!  We had decided about a month ago that late August would work for us the best and just got engaged a week and a half ago (with less than 5 months until the wedding).  I was planning the wedding, but so worried to go dress shopping before engagement.  Plus I wasn't supposed to tell anyone!  I made my needs known to him (as long of an engagement as possible, a nice proposal) and set him up with a friend to help him prepare for the proposal.  And finally he proposed!

As for Diamond Nexus, we couldn't afford a real diamond right now, we're just in that crunch and I don't really care all that much about the chemical makeup.  No one can tell it's not real and it looks great!  We're planning on replacing it with a real diamond in a few years when we have the money.

I almost want to tell him to return the mined diamond and we will order from diamond nexus labs, lol.....I've been in love with the lareda setting forever! Can you really not tell the difference?

    • It’s my wedding five months from now and we badly need ideas because everyone’s mind is not working right now and I, as the bride, cannot even think of what I really want to have on my wedding day. I want something simple yet unique. Something that suits for Colombian women and bride. Can you help me out with this? Thanks! I will really appreciate your comments!
    • I know it is really tough job to get everything at best cost. I would like to suggest to contact local wedding planner or decorators to get the quotes. It will take some time but by comparing different quotes you will get the best package.
    • If you want to enjoy your wedding then go for a dance floor. It is a precious moment of your life and you should enjoy it.
    • As you have said it is going to be a beach wedding so I would recommend a combination of Calla Lily and Daffodil. You can also use Calla lily or Daffodil individually. Both the flowers have different colors so it will easily attract anyone.
