No engagement ring syndrome

Recommended Posts

LOL it reminds me of FI and me. He asked me to marry him in Jan 2008 and I said yes. This wasn't and actual proposal but he would ask me this all the time after that. Then he tells me no matter what he would officially propose to me that year.

So I think Valentine's Day, My birthday (July), His birthday (Sept), Our Anniversary (Oct), Christmas.... NO... New Year's Eve LOL. And all that time I had my friends asking me everyday if he proposed ughhh -_-

But I did start looking into venues, and dresses, and colors, and BM in Jan 2008, it wasn't til he proposed that I changed my mind and decided to do a DW

So hang in there, and if you want to give him a little hint.. get these.. I almost purchased them too LOL

You are sooo not alone on this one. We are in the same boat as well. I call it a faux engagement and he calls it partially engaged. (Kind of like partially pregnant right?!) We have lived together for two and a half years and bought the house a year and a half ago.

A couple of months ago in the kitchen he asked "so when are we getting married?" We teased back and forth and I told him he needed to ask me another question first. His response was he thought he just did and I teased back then my answer was "I don't know because if that was THE question the answer was no." From there we have started planning for Jan of 2011 but it is weird with no formal proposal yet and no ring. I know it is coming, and that recession has not helped but nothing seems quite real without it.

I too long for that story. The one above is not what I want to tell our kids. I keep reminding myself too that what matters is we will be married one way or the other and I don't need a story to know that I love him and he loves me right back. There are daily stories everyday that demonstrate that...

Same here! I feel EXACTLY where you are. Its almost putting me into a slight depression. I feel like he may have something up his sleeve, but then again he recently lost his job and I wouldn't even know where he would get the money to get me an e-ring. I HATE when people ask for the story and I don't have one. We are set to be married in 5 months....5 MONTHS!!! And still nothing. It almost makes me feel like the wedding isn't real, despite all the planning thats been going on.

I guess I do look at it that we have love and a really great commitment to one another. He's a good guy, I just wish I had a story like 99% of other brides to be.

I know how u feel on the ring front - me and FI always said 'if' we were to get married we would have a DW. But he kept saying 'if' - lol. So we went away to Poland in October 2009 and it coincided with his 30th so i got a cufflink box engraved with 'will u marry me on it' - he has shocked and said yes - but then everyone kept asking when i would get a ring - but i felt bad as i had just sprung it on him. Then on christmas day he gave me my ring; but i think i only wanted the ring as everyone kept asking me to see it. So i do know where you are coming from. He will suprise u with the ring when you least expect it; im sure of it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Ladies, you are the best.

I am staying positive (positive I'll never see a ring) lol.

We move into our new home in a few weeks right around my birthday so my life is happy and full.

Yet, even though our destination wedding is in February 2011 we're officially getting married in August 2010. 4 1/2 months away.

I'll leave the guy alone, he's getting a lot of pressure from our friends and random people looking at my hand. I feel like I've taken the 'proposal' away from him by planning our DW but there's obviously still a chance for a surprise.

Love the Victoria Secret idea! It would work in a second.

AMEN!!! this is what i was thinking the whole time while reading this thread!

yes you love him, yes he loves you, yes THAT is the most important thing BUT....you deserve a ring and a proposal...for you, not for anyone else. don't feel bad that he's being pressured, he should be!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
