Mine just went out for my wedding that's a year away. I wanted to let my guests have enough time to plan and save up. I did a postcard and an email...The TA I'm using does it for you....I didn't get the boarding pass STDs I originally wanted but it was a lot easier to let them do it for me online. I have to take a picture of them and post it.

  • 5 months later...

My original plan was to give out our STD's at our engagement party and only mail to those who could not make the engagement party. Our engagement party was cancelled and our plans are on hold presently. Hopefully we will be back on track no later than sometime next month and I can mail them out, but what is the very latest, our wedding is 5/15/10. I also want to send invitations so when would I send those? Thanks for any advice.

I just sent out my STDs this past Saturday and plan to send out my wedding invites in January 2010. My wedding is April 25th, 2010. I would suggest sending out the STDs in the next 1-2 months to give your potential guests plenty of time to plan and budget for your wedding.

I've read a lot of stuff online that says you should send out the formal invites 6-8 weeks before the wedding, but I'm not sure that applies to a destination wedding. Just my two cents.

I would send them out ASAP. There is no harm in giving people lots of notice. I'm getting married in January 2010 and I sent my wedding invitations in June 2009. We actually were getting frequent calls from my MIL since Feb asking "wheres the invites?"!

I also set up a wedding website and that allowed me to update/inform my guests in an inexpensive and quick way. Good luck with your planning.

Hey we are date twins!

I would send out the STD ASAP. We created a website as well and included that with the STDs which i mailed out in July and August (my mom took forever to get the addresses for her side). Since then rates have come out and i have emailed ppl that i know for sure are coming with the rate information and put it on the website. I plan to send out the invites beginning of Jan with an RSVP of March 1, to avoid the holidays so ppl dont forget.

My wedding date is a few days after yours, and I just sent out my STD's which had location and TA info with them. I did have quite a few people freaking out though about prices, dates etc. Now, I am planning on sending out our invites next week, as I want people to know more details is: when the deposits on the group bookings are due!

If you are not booked like that through a tour operator or whatever, then I would say you would be able to relax a little more. Otherwise, I think it is a good idea to let people know when they have to be booked/have deposits down well before the date passes by..

Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
